- Vice President Harris will make a campaign appearance Wednesday evening in Houston, her second such visit in as many weeks to the largest city in Texas, one of the predominantly red state’s deep blue islands.
The campaign appearance comes one day before Harris will attend at the funeral of Houston’s long-serving Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), who the vice president described as a “tenacious advocate for justice” in a statement following her death.
Texas’s 40 electoral votes are considered safely in the column for former President Trump (R), but the state represents a symbolic battleground for Harris. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has been a leading figure in the GOP strategy to assign much of the blame for the migrant crisis to the vice president.
Harris is slated to speak Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. EDT.

Harris’ visit to Houston is part of her third trip to Texas in July. Harris was in Houston earlier last week for a briefing on the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl and to deliver a speech at the American Federal of Teachers’ national convention. Harris also visited Dallas earlier in the month to speak at the Alpha Kappa Alpha annual convention.
And no one cared because she couldn't do her job as VP. 🤣
