As a Brazilian who does not support the current government, I want to make this clear: This is NOT censorship, as Musk wants you to believe. In Brazil, everyone is free AND SAFE to speak their mind, including criticism of the government or the supreme court, as long as it doesn't involve crimes like racism, coup advocacy, or disinformation (which are clearly defined in our laws). X and Elon Musk fled the country to avoid complying with decisions from the supreme court and to evade legal obligations the company still holds here.
Lastly, what is happening in Brazil is entirely unrelated to situations in Iran in 2009 or Venezuela recently. This is not the action of an authoritarian government; the ban was ordered *by the Judiciary, not the Executive*, and it was done *in response to legal violations*. If anyone tells you this is about censorship or dictatorship, *know that is false*.

I disagree on principle. Look, I’m with you. Her takes are mind numbing and disheartening. But by having her on the show, it allows Robbie and others to competently untangle the left wing mindset, which can be helpful when you are talking to friends and family that think like she does. For me, I consume content on The Hill to see how the other side (left wing crazies) think and I get to observe the dismantling of their arguments. I'm from Brazil and I can guarantee you that the orders from Alexandre de Moraes are illegal, in Brazil's own civil internet law approved by the congress a judge not matter how powerful he is cannot exclude entire profiles from any social media platform, it has to be on a post by post basis and the legal case has to be solid for this censorship to happen. De Moraes has disregarded this law completely and wanted to ban entire profiles even if they're not committing any specific crime, just like an "anticipated censorship", and for everyone with a brain is clear that these bans are politically motivated. Elon is right for not obeying his orders, he's defending free speech and the political pluralism in Brazil.
About the "lithium imperialism" accusation, Brazil is not that special when it comes to lithium, there many other countries that have larger reserves in the region, Musk really doesn't need Brazil to support his companies operation. Also China is already exploring lithium mining in Brazil, so I find it ironic that this lady talk about X and Elon possible influence in Brazil but she keeps quiet about China doing the same.

This is the most egregious take I've seen from Jessica. I've never been one to say "Jessica must go" because she said things I don't like; I always told myself that it's worth hearing out the other side. This however, was horrible. She isn't even providing anything constructive or helpful. She intentionally misinterprets any information that comes her way and twists it to somehow make "the right" the enemies (although Elon Musk isn't historically right wing).

In fact, it’s wild that Shellenberger isn’t across that Bolivia/lithium situation. That alone is informing a lot of Jessica’s calculus. And I would wager the Brazilian court ruling too.
The issue here is that Musk should never have been allowed to run a media corporation if he has other corporate interests at play. It stands to reason to argue that he would be pushing a messaging that would assist his financial and corporate interests.
And if you're a Latin American government you have more than enough exmaples to approach any American Corporate entity with caution. (As per Jessica's example of United Fruit Co and Gautamala).
But she's not wrong that elon did state " we will coup whomever we want..." if a platform like X was threatening to do the same here in the US, wouldn't you want it to be taken to trial for incitement of violence against your federal government? Which is a form of a constitutional violation.

As a Brazilian who does not support the current government, I want to make this clear: This is NOT censorship, as Musk wants you to believe. In Brazil, everyone is free AND SAFE to speak their mind, including criticism of the government or the supreme court, as long as it doesn't involve crimes like racism, coup advocacy, or disinformation (which are clearly defined in our laws). X and Elon Musk fled the country to avoid complying with decisions from the supreme court and to evade legal obligations the company still holds here.
Lastly, what is happening in Brazil is entirely unrelated to situations in Iran in 2009 or Venezuela recently. This is not the action of an authoritarian government; the ban was ordered *by the Judiciary, not the Executive*, and it was done *in response to legal violations*. If anyone tells you this is about censorship or dictatorship, *know that is false*.
