  • DASH co star Matt from Wheeling Webber will take this one as he is heading out to Manai, one of his favourite stomping grounds to test the limits of the JB74 Jimny. We have both stock and lifted suspension, and a range of tyre sizes to compare.

    A great video to show what not to do, he wasn't even in low range and most likely would have crawled up most of it if he was!

    Great video.
    The traction control system, AllGrip, reacts a bit too slow for my liking. That’s why I’m ordering a rear locker from Kaiser in Brazil in July, and a front one in December. But, as you said, the Jimny is a very capable vehicle right of the showroom.

      I tend to agree, we’ll be sourcing some e lockers pretty soon. Then we’ll see how she goes

    Any chance you guys can list out the exact mods / wheels / tyres?
    Is it a 40mm lift on the beige one? Not too fussed on ride height but really keen on getting more articulation up the front.

    If you do a lift you need to put off set spacer’s in to straighten the front springs and spacers to drop chassis cross member cos the front drive shaft will hit when weight comes off suspension

    Very interesting, yet there is no mention about the fuel consumption difference between the standard Jimny and the modified ones.

    Finding the Jimny content interesting Dave! I'm intrigued to know what would be classed as legal tyres and lift for them, especially here in SA? I imagine the two modified ones would both be over the legal limit here?

    • @DASHOffRoad
      @DASHOffRoad  2 роки тому +1

      You would be correct. 50mm overall is all you can do in SA

    Judging by wheel spin of the green car, it wasn't in a 4L. Also I don't see any flex on tires. Did you forget to air it down?

    hey, could you add more details regarding white Jimny, especially about the lift kit?
    - which arms were installed (front and rear) which angles (castor correction) do they have?
    - which drive shafts?
    - are axle flanges parallel after the lift?
    - does it have reduction gears, if yes could you add details
    Sorry about a lot of questions, just curiosity

      Following ! Were you able to gather that info ? I’m looking to buy a lift it .

  • @FourLowAdventures
    @FourLowAdventures 2 роки тому +2

    You will lose articulation if you go bigger than 30" and you'll need a gear reduction too and to compound the problem I heard that the gear reductions have a long waiting list now. With the OME 40mm lift and 30" tires you can get max articulation and the springs are softer than tough dog (better for wheeling, not ideal for heavy touring). This is really the sweet spot for driving Vic and NSW tracks in my opinion.

    • @hhhs001
      @hhhs001 2 роки тому

      Dude where are your vids? I used to watch yours again and again. Interesting info on OME vs TD for articulation. How many mm difference up front? I thought I was set on TD 40mm but after reading this comment I'm thinking about going to ARB to get the OME's in.

    • @FourLowAdventures
      @FourLowAdventures 2 роки тому

      Hi@@hhhs001 I haven't been driving the Jimny much since the end of COVID restrictions. Was planning to make more vids because it has a diff locker and gear reduction now but sadly I think I'll be putting the Jimny on the market soon to get a house deposit ready. Still love it though. Regarding the max articulation I forgot to mention that's with the sway bar disconnected. So you kind of get the best of both worlds, on road and off road. But you have to disconnect one side of the sway bar, or in my case I would just remove it completely as most of my off roading was local.

    Whilst the new Jimny isn't bad l feel it could have been so much better, the engine is not good for offroading, torque too high up the rev range, low range transfer gear much too high, should have been at least 4 to 1, the clutch is a week spot and desperately needs a 6th gear for highway use.

    Lets face it..a Jimny is meant for fun on road with the ability to do off roading.. While it is ridiculously popular .. a Patrol with diff locks, lifted on 35s with 300k on the clock can be had for 10-20k even today after Covid ..why bother spending money and changing what the car was meant to be .. Jimny is a fun car with better than awd ability. I live in Perth too and while the Jimny is ridculously popular for what it is ..I rarely see them out.. the current gen.. yes heaps of the old ones on the chicken tracks in Mundaring and the heart break hill area as well .. to each his/her own I suppose but an old Jeep XJ is still a better buy at 4000 dollars I reckon than a current gen Jimny for offroading

    • @RealTalkWithMitch
      @RealTalkWithMitch Рік тому +2

      "Patrol with diff locks, lifted on 35s with 300k on the clock can be had for 10-20k"
      Your lookin at minimum 15 to 20k if your unfortunate like me in WA. Not to mention the thousands of work you will put into it maintenance wise over the next 5 yeas of ownership. A car like that has been thrashed & bashed. The fuel consumption will be high as all hell with them wheels. That many KM's your not far from gearbox & engine failures that may need a rebuild or replacement.
      It would end up costing more than a brand new Jimny plus mods & fuel over the 5 year period.
      Only difference is the Jimny cant do deep water crossings due to it being relatively low. It can do pretty much everything else and what it cant do it can generally go around (unless its a gnarly bog/water crossing)
