I have a Massive respect for this band! They did Their thing, they done it Good and realised they want to have some peace and quiet. I truly understand them, this kind of music and lifestyle infects your body and mind, it wears on you. So I say - Slayer, thank you for what you said, done, recorded! One for the Big Books! \m/
I still think that the thrash beat crushes any type of blast beat. It's not only more powerful as it lets the snare to ring out, it also has a more prominent and clearer sound, and carries the song on a fast groove that blast beats, although played faster, but heard slower when everything's stacked together, are never able to. It's just too much of everything at once about blastbeats, and it gets repetitive if a song has too many of them, unlike the thrash beat which is a joy to listen too; it also lets the guitar come through more than these "snare, snare, snare" along with "kick, kick, kick" beats that are chained together too close, which starts to sound pretty boring and unclear if it's over-used. I like some blastbeats, though, but only if they are used in parts of the songs, not through entire thing, otherwise it becomes quite dull pretty fast, unlike the thrash beat that lets the song breathe more and lets the room for other instruments to be able to come through and thus sound clearer and more powerful, so that's why Dave Lombardo is one of my favourite drummers that can smoke any modern metal drummer, especially the death metal guys. They, more or less, sound the same these days, subconsciously compete among each other who's faster and more technical, with over-using double bass and, ofc, blastbeats, but with that totally forgetting what works the best for the song, as every song that has a drum beat needs its groove.
Triggers definitely don't suit this kind of drumming in my opinion. They're fine for extreme metal, but I feel like all Lombardo's groove is lost here. Great playing anyway.
Drumming is great... the drums tho. Modern drums have no fucking punch. Snare sounds like a tiny cardboard box, and the bass drum sounds like a sample from a crappy free IOS app.
I've always loved the rapid ride cymbal intro.
That double ride was absolutely sick!!!! \m/\m/
2:05 I agree. Was crazy
2:04 omg that double ride cymbals!!

That was badass! Maybe Spirit In Black or Kill Again? That would be awesome! Slayer rules!
I cant stop imagining you....doing..... a proper drum playthrough of Ghosts of War :P
the ride cymbal intro is both criminally and insane.

OWWWWW ŞİTTTT
Why doesn’t he do snare + hi-hat
Cuz what he's hitting on the left is actually a hat, its just a set one that you can't pedal. I think
SLASHMOUTH he's also a lefty
Hell awaits is pretty awesome too
