So cool to hear a traditional gamelan ensemble play music written for Western marimbas by an American whose style is inspired by gamelan! Talk about full circle...
An amazing adaptation of a classic work, which is one of my favorites of Reich's. Kudos to the "arranger;" I'd say what you did was way beyond that. This was a full blown translation! Hats off to the players, too.
This is great! I would love a copy of the transcription! I would like to try to play this with an ensemble that plays on an aluminum gamelan in Oakland California.
Many thanks for sharing this. I particularly liked how the different textures in the piece have transcribed so well to the differing timbres of the gamelan. I would, however have preferred to see much less of the train journey loop and much more of the musicians.
Very interesting. I thought some of the sharpness of the piece as written for marimbas was a bit lost in the gamelan drone, but again this was also a unique quality of this iteration. Ditto on the train coverage from previous comments.

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, I can't stop coming back to this video and I probably won't stop.
New account, time for my annual viewing.

Steve Reich - Six marimbas
I'd rather see the performance than a whole bunch of boring scenery... (hint hint)
