My grandpa is turning 90 in a few weeks and he was a middle school biology teacher for 30+ years and loves nature documentaries. I introduced him to this podcast and now he’s an avid watcher and he’ll call me to talk about what he learned. Just wanted to let Maya and Connor know how much he still loves learning about animals and nature even at his age. Thanks for all your hard work ❤
The biggest thing that helped my fear of bugs was watching Maya so casually handle them at Alveus. Idk why, but her not worrying if a tarantula or harvestmen would hurt her helped me out a lot.
I actually never thought about how much that helped me but you're so right! I feel like a lot of times when I see people interact with bugs and spiders they're always scared or grossed out, so it helped a lot to see someone so unafraid and excited about them instead!
yay, Crazy Bugs with Dr.Allison!! if she was in the thumbnail and/or title, not reduced to just a "?" silhouette and "guest" in the title, I'd have clicked wayyyy faster lol. Entomologist, Dr.Allison is THE BEST!!!!! More guests!!! More doctors, experts and animal/bug lovers ASAP, great platform for them this podcast!!
"Allison, can you please explain for our audio listeners what we're looking at?" "Um, Allison, can you please explain for our stupid audio listeners what we're looking at?" 😆
Ever since the butterfly pinning video, I have increasingly become way more interested in insects. Thank you all for showing a new side to these beautiful critters ❤
Yes a another episode with Allison let’s gooooo and here is some episode ideas World's Longest - Current or now extinct longer animals World's Sporty - Animals who have a history of playing sports or games in the wild World's Heavy Eaters - Animals who can eat large amounts of food during one day World's Best Voice (Singers) - Animals with who actually sing for different reasons World's Best Climbers - Animals who extreme levels of climbing World’s Worse Hunters - Animals who have strange, weird and bad hunting techniques World’s Best Dancers - Animals who actually dance for many reasons plus it’s fun World’s Deepest Sleepers - Animals who can sleep for extreme lengths and even staying sleep during loud noise World’s Underdogs - Animals who survive against all odds or live tough environments and just being underdogs
World's Most Sensory Deprived: the animals that have lost the ability of sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell, or some other sensory experience, and how they survive without it
As a Kiwi, so cool to see one of our native insects featured!! Though the giant wētā is uncommon, the regular sized wētā are very common(and good encouragement to get your laundry off the line quick!). Also, on the topic of their near extinction due to rodents, we have an organisation here called Predator Free Wellington, which has managed to eradicate rats, possums, and mustelids(all invasive) from the miramar peninsula, as far as we know! It is amazing how much the native bird populations have improved already. If you guys ever come down to NZ you really should come to Wellington to see our local zoo, wildlife sanctuary(Zealandia), and see the work that Predator Free Wellington does!!
The community you have built is the most inspirational place on UA-cam, Maya and Conner are my hero’s 😁 thank you for everything you do, and I hope to one day be able to donate or buy treats for the animals 🤗
i am getting less fearful of bugs from watching this channel. i used to not be able to look at pictures at all but im starting to get better with them. i have an actual phobia, i know they cant hurt me its completely irrational but they are SO cool
I believe the insect Allison was thinking about was a Spiny Katydid likely a member of the Panacanthus genus, not a type of Weta, also between the Idiocracy and Flava of Love reference I get strong milenial vibes from Allison.
I don't want to be mean but why does Connor use Chatgpt and other ai stuff when it's absolutely terrible for the environment. Doesn't it go completely against what Alveus is about
