This song makes me very happy for some reason making me think of being in a old fashioned candy shop in classic days at 5 years old and can't handle the excitement
The Nutcracker has and will always be my favorite ballet and next month we go into Nutcracker auditions and I can't wait. At the studio I dance at we are taught Balanchine which was a bit different for me because when I was younger doing ballet I was taught Royal (talk about an adjustment). I eventually adapted to his beautiful technique and I love it so much.
This performance is cool but I definitely prefer it when they are doing the Russian Dance stuff. The hula hoop thing is a little lackluster if you’ve ever seen the other choreography before with the Cossack squat dance and all the barrel jumps. I know a lot of people like the NYC version of the Nutcracker but my wife and I were a little disappointed to be honest. The orchestra was outstanding though.
And it has to be that Cossack dance because this part of the ballet is filled with dances from different parts of the world that were en voguea in 1892. The people wanted to see not only waltzes, but also exotic dances and folklore like the Spanish bolero for chocolate etc. And of course, the Russians wanted to see the acrobatic Cossack dance. It seems that because of political correctness during the cold war the Russian/Cossack dance was not allowed. Pity!
@@varelionJust saw this again last night and was eagerly awaiting this dance because it’s my favorite. Was pretty disappointed because they had changed it entirely so they weren’t Russian Candy Canes, but a single dancer making spasm motions because he was supposed to be popcorn now. I guess I can see why it was changed considering the war now but still. Disappointing.
For a small town production, I was gonna be in candy canes until my dance teacher forgot to add me. I was in the wings and she whispered to me and said: “Aw I wish I could’ve added you to party scene and candy canes.. I just forgot.” Maybe next year
If anybody has ever heard this theme in a video of kids learning about vehicles including airplanes (where they play this song), please, lemme know (I've seen this video in my childhood, but it's been so long and I'm trying to remember the name of this video)
Yes. It was written about a week before the final rehearsals by a man named jim marshall. A snappy fun tune to dance to. .... Ok that's enough! 😂 I'm just noticing how many ppl don't know that TCHAIKOVSKY write the entire score to the nutcracker 😂 He and bakanchine would have a good laugh.
Usually this is one of my favorite dances from the Nutcracker, but I don't like this version. Lackluster conducting, and the choreography strikes me as gimmicky.
This isn't a "version," sweetie, this is the original Ivanov choreography from 1892 which Balanchine learned in St. Petersburg. But if you don't like it maybe they should just get rid of it after 130 years.

Mia Aguirre thanks for stressing me out when I’m in my first production as a candy cane
Amazing piece! Great that Balanchine passed on this choreography from the 1892 original production to his!

I’ve seen a Cossack squat trio in person once doing the dance. The audience was clapping along.

The Nutcracker is Tchaikovsky's ballet not George Balanchine’s.
Who is he?
Balanchine was the choreographer of this production
I could be wrong but I thought Tchaikovsky made the music and George cherographed

In my view, candies have nothing to do with Russian dance.
I hate watch this. Others use to. It appears they've been culled from the comment section.

Yeah, he could’ve tried a little harder. Maybe applied himself a little more.
