KTM 950 Super Enduro Project - Hand Lapping Valves

@_Owlclaw: Does anyone hand lap valve shims? How else do you adjust in the middle of the Siberian abyss, roll into the gold-plated moto dealer?
Mixed reviews out there:
1. Case Hardening? parts are too small for that.
2. Lapping a taper? You have a Mic so untaper it; it would need to be pretty significant to matter over the tiny area that the valve seats on; and considering that the shims get a coined edged it seems to me that pure surfaces aren't super critical.
3. Engineered coatings: yes but then lap the bucket side only.
Lots of objections, no real cries of blame. So we'll see.

@katoomist1: Hand lap valve shims? Absolutely! I will to obtain desired clearance at the loose end of the tolerance for longevity between inspection intervals.
