Maya, Beata and her family deserve justice. The fact that Johns Hopkins billed over a half a million dollars for a disease they claimed Maya didn't have, is proof alone they were out for money and that's technically blood money with Beata's blood all over that foul, disgusting hospital! I hope they get everything they're suing for and more! I hope they go after cps too! Justice for Maya and Beata!
AMA in general has way too much power. They can ruin lives with a stroke of a pen, with no oversight. A doctor stole my livelihood just out of curiosity. She wanted a free guinea pig, which I wasn't gonna do.
Indeed. This case is so outrageous that the family must get justice and make the culprits accountable for their actions. And all of them, not just the hospital, although I understand that e.g. unfortunately, the social worker had to be removed from this lawsuit. CPS actions and those of others responsible must then be dealt separately.
So now they claim she doesn’t have crps, then the other claim is correct and it’s all a lie! The hospital bill the insurance like every other hospital in the US. They did their job and she got better. This is a money and attention grab. Sorry hate me all you want, but I’m not buying it. And her body language during def opening solidified it for me further. She is so used to playing the victim because that’s has been her life which is tragic as it probably started with minor fibbing at age 9 (when it started) and to have her on ketamine treatment from Mexico is the real crime. She was addicted to ketamine, of course, she had problems. The hospital had to wean her off and they did! She went back to school and succeeded. I don’t believe her at all and I also think the father knew too. He’ll never admit it though as there are 200million reasons!!! This is a money grab!
@@chrisper5559 did you miss the part where she went to another facility after she was released from the hospital and yes she was and still does have CRPS and if you think this is just a money gram I hope and pray to God, you are never on the receiving end of a hospital doctor, social worker nurse doing anything to you your family or your children because I have been on the receiving end of such thing not to this degree but medical malpractice
I have a daughter with 3 autoimmune diseases that are causing blood clots, liver disease and kidney disease. She’s had them since she was 15 and now she is 29. This accusation that was leveled against this mother was my worst nightmare. There were times I had to go toe to toe with Doctors and I was afraid of retaliation. There were times those doctors removed themselves from her case because of me. It is scary the power they can wield if they turn against you. This is unforgivable what they did to this family.
Same.. I’ve been in the similar shoes as a parent.. The minute the doctor thinks youre “that” parent, it’s over.. You’re no longer trusted as a parent, & nothing you say or do matters.. It’s really shitty position to be in.
The judge was asked by Maya’s mother to allow her to hug her child while they were at a hearing together and he said NO. The hospital allowed Maya, her father and priest only one hour together when they told her about her mothers death. They made the family leave. Can you tell me how not ONE person in that entire time while she was detained in the hospital, had the guts to do something?
When you're in the situation you understand as a parent, lies will be told just because you are doing something... you are aggressive or threatening. I speak from personal experience. The doctor is always right in the hospital and even if they are wrong the hospital will work with the doctor and completely comply or help CPS.
I cannot even comprehend how horrific it would be to hear that your mother was dead, and then your family is forced to leave and you're left alone with people you know contributed to your mother's death. One hour? It's absolutely barbaric.
well, ok, but you have to consider things from everyone's point of view, right? for people like Dr Smith or Bedy or some others, yes, they are evil. But folks like the nurses? First of all, none of them were around 24/7 - none of them could have the "full picture." second, likely the nurses were told only what Bedy/Smith wanted them to hear - this girl is abused, she's got Stockholm and feels love for her abusers, etc. Folks like Bedy probably had an explanation for every odd event, every "off" situation. I can hate people like Bedy or Smith, but the nurses and others likely not only didn't have all the information/see all the story, but I feel it very likely they were given some kind of "plausible" explanation for everything was going on. hate the perpetrators, not the everyday folks who probably didn't have all the info.
I stopped watching this and watched the documentary Take care of Maya, I just bawled my eyes out, I as a mum of 2, can feel Beata's pain, she could see no way out, no light at the end of the very long tunnel, it must have been unbearable and I think she honestly in the end saw herself as the problem, I just want to say that Beata was an awesome mum who went to great lengths to help her daughter, Maya your mum would be so proud of you and your dad and brother, and everything you are doing today, she loved you like only a mum can❤, thinking of you all xx
Sadly suicide is often met with unfair judgement and criticism. Talking from personal experience when I was worn down by social workers, my son's school, lack of medical care and support (he has autism) I too tried to take my own life. I was then berated and put down even more by those heartless individuals who said I was an awful parent for doing that, and that I caused my son to "develop" autism! Still to this day I'm fighting against them. I don't have the strength to fight a lengthy court case, but I admire this family for banding together and seeking justice! It's unforgivable what is going on in hospitals, social care and police departments 😢
@@LMCSM I am so sorry that you are going through such pain and heartache, people can be so cruel and horrible, all you can do is your best and their opinions don't matter, suicide carries such a bad stigma but I am glad you are strong enough to talk about your experience, it sounds like a terrible experience having to deal with people who are not meant to harm others, I hope you are healing and you and your son are doing better now.
Yes, as a Mother of a child who lost a battle with a different disease….. it still hits home with me and shattered my heart in to a million pieces all over again. This happens too often and deserves more recognition so that the results of this case doesn’t happen again. This family will be in my heart and prayers forever, as I too know the darkness that can consume you. 🙏🏻 God bless, and protect them all the days of their life! I will definitely never forget them in my prayers!💕
When she wins, it will be win for everyone with a rare, chronic or complex illness. We are often treated as less than human, doubted, abused, neglected. Maya's case is an extreme culmination of the horrific mistreatment of all of us in those communities. We all encounter medical staff who say we are just depressed or suffer from anxiety in their arrogance. Who try to re-diagnose us bc it is easier than learning to understand our illness. Who downplay and disbelieve. Who ignore and neglect us bc we exist outside of their normal every day experience. Stay strong beautiful girl. You are not alone.
As someone with CRPS this hits extremely close to home. I've had it since 11 when an operation went wrong. I was told that I was attention seeking. I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters and the drs used this and said that I had big family syndrome.I also had a dr pull me out of bed to prove I could walk, which I couldn't do. I'm 34 now and still suffer from excruciating pain. I hope this family gets everything they are looking for. Unfortunately ths medical staff that done this are protected and this won't lose their jobs.
Had something similar happen to me. A psychiatrist came in my room with students and grabbed my leg hard to prove it didn’t hurt 🙄 I screamed so loud and made a nurse run in 😭
Fortunately, the judge's name is public, so people who end up in front of him at least know who they are dealing with. Not allowing a simple hug with a bunch of people around was just mean spirited and cruel. I hope the judge feels guilty.
I concur with your perspective. However, it is essential to acknowledge that a judge's decision is fundamentally based on the evidence presented in court. It's also important to recognize the unfortunate reality that many children suffer from medical abuse administered by their parents. In this particular case, the evidence provided by the hospital and/or DCF was more compelling than that submitted by Maya's family. As disconcerting as this may be, it is a common occurrence in legal proceedings. The influence of parents on their children is a significant factor, possibly contributing to the judge's decision to restrict Maya's contact with her mother. This is not to defend the judge's actions, but rather to suggest considering the situation from multiple perspectives. Our strong sentiments against the judge's ruling stem from having access to both sides of the story, which reveals that Maya and her family were, in fact, in the right. However, it is crucial to understand that judgments should not be formed based on information that emerges post-facto.
I cannot believe that the hospital actually chose to take this to trial. I’m glad Maya and her family will FINALLY get some justice though! Stay strong Maya!
It’s sick and sad how often CPS gets it wrong. They continue to allow actual people that abuse their children get away with it and turn against the good parents fighting for help for their kids. It happened to my parents too years ago with my sister. She has bulimia and still struggles with it to this day but CPS was called on my parents that she was being neglected and denied food which wasn’t the case at all. My mom continuously took her to our family DR trying to get her help who confirmed her eating disorder. But that wasn’t enough “proof” for them so CPS had ordered them to take her to their own approved Drs and psychiatrist but my sister was too smart for the questions they would ask her. They wanted to take my parents to court to take my sister away for child neglect. They destroyed my family.
Right? The 8 passengers b*tch's OWN DAUGHTER called and reported her own mother and was not believed but this family, that did NOTHING BUT CARE, had to go thru utter hell on earth! NOT RIGHT AT ALL!
Incredibly sad. What is the way to change this? Better wages and better benefits and hire more people. Currently, their starting pay is $12 an hour. Who can live on that? People who are taking care of our children, OUR CHILDREN, Teachers and CPS, should have their wages doubled where they currently are for the work they do. It’s proven fact that you’ll get more applicants, thus have many candidates to choose from, by paying people MORE, and staffing MORE people with the lure of good wages! In short, it takes money, but it’s one of the things that I don’t mind my taxes going towards.
CPS often dismisses cases and quite frequently actually- in this case it was Dr Sally Smith who in an effort to justify her job- chose to call the Kowalskis perpetrators of medical abuse aka Munchausen’s by Proxy… Dr Sally Smith is the catalyst of this whole case and she did settle with the family as did other individual Doctors…. The hospital did not. Danita Tutt had a very sick son who after years of illness ended up in Hospice and she was charged and eventually convicted of attempted murder among other charges all because of an “ expert” very much like Dr Smith. Her son was in hospice and the main nurse, Connie, called 911 and claimed Danita was starving her son so he would die. Although it was Connie who told the parents he was dying and they should make funeral arrangements and she stopped all foods and meds for the boy, not the mother. CPS was immediately involved but eventually dismissed the case for lack of evidence. However a Doctor at Cook Children’s Medical Center is considered the leading expert in the USA in Munchausen’s By Proxy - Dr Jayme Coffman. For some bizarre reason- Dr Coffman has more cases than anywhere else- in the entire United States there has only been 2 convictions of a parent for Munchausen’s By Proxy. Suddenly this “ expert” , Dr Coffman is investigating 5-10 cases a month In that hospital and has had 5 convictions from cases she initiated alone…. There’s a serious problem there!!! And it should terrify any parent of a chronically ill child in Tarrant County - and definitely don’t take your ill child to CCMC….I encourage anyone who’s bothered by the Maya Kowalski case to do research on the Danita Tutt/Colby Tutt case. Danita took a plea deal and is serving a 5 year prison sentence for aggravated child abuse which was pled down from attempted murder all because of Dr Jayme Coffman. Like the Kowalskis there have been many many families who have come forward and shared their harrowing experiences with Dr Coffman who continues to destroy families and be the “ go to” expert for the DA’s offices in that county…. She will do and say anything the prosecution wants her to if gets a conviction.
Medical kidnapping happens to child with rare disorders. Take the child away from parents, make the child a case study for money. Not everyone in hospitals have good intentions. Did they do a lot of blood draws? What did they do with all her blood?
So sad. Because I am a nurse and also a mother of a child with a chronic illness, I can speak on this issue with some deep experiences. Until health workers get more training on empathy, and also how to listen to their patients this will continue to happen. I am happy this case has been brought so we can see the defect of the system. I had to take my child to three different hospitals in a matter of hours to get him some attention. I just did not have the money to pursue a lawsuit. Not to say there aren't some people who care, buy most don't, in my opinion. Not only that, but we are forced to be documenting for this same reason - in case there is a lawsuit. And ofcourse I was sued before as a nurse in a hospital.
When you have doctors and nurses too busy making tik tok videos, it makes sense how the healthcare system has become a joke and why caregivers lack empathy and basic common sense.
@teresathayn5170 sad, but unless you have been there, you will never understand. It is sad to have to go these facilities. Parr of the problem is government interference. Very sad.
thank you for sticking up for your child with a chronic illness. i have several and until we’re old enough to advocate for ourselves we rely on our parents to go to bat for us. i’m 22 and sometimes i get so exhausted from fighting doctors and insurance companies that i have to let my mother take the reigns for a little bit. it sucks when doctors don’t understand your illness, especially if it’s rare.
Hes all over the bloody place he needs to fight for her with all his heart she deserves the best she deserves justice. Wake up lawyer and come back fighting for her she needs you!!
Also, the Prosecutor should stick to what he knows, and LEAVE The Medical Diagnosis and Disease processes to the MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS…Good Lord! Because he was wrong on so many levels about his medical definitions
It is a stupidly common situation. And yet, people who actually do abuse their children constantly get away with it. How many times was CPS called on Ruby Franke over the years?
I have AMPS and for YEARS i got told that nothing's wrong with me, i was too young to have any problems (i was 18-19) and it was all psychological, at 24 i was FINALLY diagnosed with AMPS. i knew i wasn't crazy!!!! Im 29 now and I'm at a poing where im stable/comfortable for the most part, i still have bad days but my medical team have been amazing ❤ i am in Australia, i never thought that our system would be so dismissive 😭
I saw this Documentary on Netflix. What a Sad and Tragic situation that happened to this Family! They Lost their Mother who was a Nurse who was just trying to get Medical help for her Daughter Maya.
I’m surprised JH hasn’t settled out of court. This is a pretty gruesome commentary on the care, or lack there of, offered by their institution. The documentary was as riveting as it was horrifying. I hope this trial has the same effect on the jury as it had on those who watched it.
Absolutely criminal and so very disturbing on the treatment of this family! They deserve even more than they are asking for! Unbelievable and so unfortunate treatment and consequences caused by these so called medical professionals.
This is such a sad case. I watched the documentary not to long ago and I just cried . I cannot believe how this so called professionals treated this family. Heart breaking story.
People say that patients should be self advocating, yet whenever I've asked questions and contradicted any of my doctors' decisions, I received vehement backlash. I have even been thrown out of a doctor's office because my degree as a medical technician in hospital settings have allowed me to be aware of many medical screening and diagnoses. I realized that everything I've been taught was wrong. Since I learned that, I've adopted an act wherein I act clueless and submissive to the doctor, along with learning that I must lie in order to receive helpful medical treatment. It's the doctors' egos that just cannot stand anyone questioning them, which often results in cases such as this.
This has also absolutely been my experience (not a medical professional but well read on my symptoms) and I think it is worse for women. I think it really counted against the mother in this case that she was a nurse and well informed, with a direct communication style and probably her accent rubbed them the wrong way. This whole thing is a horror story and such a disgusting abuse of power by everyone involved at the hospital and child services/family court.
Studies have shown (citations not known) that women are absolutely discriminated as far as believing their symptoms as compared to males.@@lucyjane3803
I have brought loved one to help advocate for me. I'm a medical technician and my husband is a doctor graduated from Harvard, and we still got kicked out of the hospital for daring to politely question the doctor's ideas. We ended up being right. Doctors don't like to think that others may be as much or more educated than them on specific subjects. We have a home lab and did CBC differentials, Gram stains, and viral plaque assays to come up with the correct diagnosis. The doctor refused to do any of these tests and said that we were overstepping patient bounds. If we would have listened to him, I would have died. (edited due to typo) @@rhondamadgirl
This story is so tragic! I bawled my eyes out when I watched the documentary. I suffer from chronic pain and it sucks so much being told by doctors there’s nothing wrong with you. Even my own family didn’t understand. I was isolated from the family for decades (still am) because I couldn’t drive more than an hour without extreme pain. This whole story just resonates with me so strongly.
This family deserves Justice, drs today seem to think that every patient is going to walk in with a textbook illness, HELLO! Not going to happen, and they should not be so quick to call in CPS, in stead of listening to the patient and the parents, and doing some test! This is horrible for this family, Maya lost her mom!😢
When I first watched this in real time, I thought Anderson was a mess. Now that I’ve watched 3 weeks of trial, it all makes a lot more sense. Anderson may not be the most charismatic fellow, but he has gotten this enormous job done well.
This case hits home for me strong! I was sexually abused by numerous ppl from 2-3yo then again 11-16yo and suffer from CRPS it’s too much for me 😢I can’t even deal with it hearing others but this is what monsters do to childhoods. I’m 51yo now and still have untreated trauma
@@cr6661thank you matey hi from Australia and I’m ok just tired of it all and for 40 years I’ve held my high school abuse a secret I’ve opened a law suit against the state education it’s almost 2 years now and the case has progressed as it has ruined my education and life trajectory All for 3 grown men my teachers and their sick sexual gratification grooming me from 10-11yo there’s too much to write here but I need years of therapy with my psychologist to come. CRPS is last 7 years to life I take it day by day and i thank God my mum is by my side ❤to u all 🙏🏼
It’s sad and I feel for Maya as my pain is in my left leg as I’ve had 2 surgeries and 3 knee collapses in between all during Covid lockdown. Now? I’m 7 years addicted to Opiods and seeing pain specialists they want me to do a ketamine infusion. My insurer has declined on 2 occasions going for a third. Seeing again like a yo yo go here go there and it’s like nobody cares bad days to terrible days I have a limp and on terrible days can’t even walk I have a cane inside my house. I hate it. Opiods aren’t strong enough as I’ve been on them now for 7 years my body has plateaued on them. My gp? Won’t prescribe anything stronger. I’m seeing again same drs for stronger pain meds. I’m like a reclusive person trapped in my home. I’ve given up on a lot even bathing is such a hassle for me. Anyways peeps be kind to others as one doesn’t know what the other is going through. And I’ve lost weight on my left leg my foot is like a cramped foot. Have to wear tight bandages under clothing on my knee to keep it all intact for walking and I have metal plate and pin in it. Burning sensation and sleeping is ruined as I have insomnia. My leg kicks up like it’s electrified. I have so many things in common with Maya I feel for her. I hate it a lot but it is what it is I guess it could be worse. 🙏🏼💖to u all
@@JK-mf1po Wow, interesting… here in Minnesota I know addicts that are on a ketamine program to help get off drugs - and it’s all free to them - paid for by the state!!! Yet the medical insurance companies get by without paying for it for people that need it for other reasons??? What’s wrong here??!!!
If I'm paying you for a service then I can question you. That goes for Medical staff ,not just restaurants, stores.... but Medical staff doesn't like to be questioned. What also gets me is the government social workers. There are cases where someone has reported child being hurt and nothing is done, then when something like this happens they don't do right.
Notably, these social workers were working for a contracted company rather than simply the government. You know what that means. More $$$$$$$$ when privatized.
Having been through this horrendous disease myself 4 years ago from a simple broken wrist. My heart goes out to Maya and her family. They have been to hell and back! I pray that you get your deserved outcome. This is disgusting that you are still having to fight. I hope Johns Hopkins are disgusted with themselves. Love and best wishes from England 🥰
This Family needs Justice! I hope John Hopkins has to pay every dime this family is seeking! And the Dr.s and Child protection services people goes to prison!
Justice for this family! is so heartbreaking💔what they have been through. Her poor mother couldn’t take it any more, not being able to see her baby girl😢😢 what a strong loving family. 😢 God bless them and may her mom RIP🙏🏻🕊️
I just watched this documentary last night and it was one of the most heart wrenching things I’ve seen in a while. I don’t understand now watching the trial live why that judge is on the bench for this because he clearly is bias and I hope for the family’s sake, it doesn’t hurt them in the long run. For those who haven’t seen the documentary it’s on Netflix and it’s absolutely something everybody should watch because it can happen to any parent/family anywhere. This judges actions ultimately caused the death of her mother because he wouldn’t allow her to hug her child. It’s disgusting and unimaginable as a mother myself.
Why didn’t the hospital just settle out of court? They are going to lose big time to a lot of terrible publicity, and they will have to pay out anyhow.
I'm pretty sure the family refused to settle. The family wanted to go to court so the world could hear their story. They should so other victims will come forward. Maya isn't alone and I really think not just the hositpal should be sued but also DCF for blindly following Bedys recommendations
I think the medical professionals got caught up in "who's in charge, who's right or wrong, who's running the show, "it's what i say that goes" . Professionals can get this way and unfortunately the challenges become more important than the patient themselves. Maya deserves every penny of the lawsuit. The medical professionals should be reprimanded .
Omg this just so sad what happened to Maya and her family 😢Maya is so beautiful, my god ! Also does anyone know if there a criminal case against the doctors and nurses?? If yes I really hope they can get lots of years of prison !!!
My heart breaks for the children and husband and family members... I had a patient in home health that their daughter all of a sudden couldn't walk. I thought this was an awful and strange occurrence. Never did I ever ever question that she couldn't walk. To see the family's dumbfounded on their faces and sadness was very real.
Recently saw this story, but they could never get in front of a judge, they were denied court proceedings over and over, the mother ended her life after what the state and that woman from cps did to that family...not only was their daughter ill but they ruined their lives and tortured them All...its disgusting that this was aloud to happen, all because a mother was protective, out spoken and it got personal and pissed nurses/doctors off and they called cps ...disgusting..all i can say is God watched the whole thing and God will handle those that all did this family wrong...every last one of them
The social worker reminds me of a social worker in my area I had many run around "s with from false accusations to being yelled at. The is a very sad case. I pray justice is served and Maya and her family gets everything they are asking for. They are very strong to sit in a court room and re live the trauma.
agreed. yawn. exactly 46:00 min…one of the defense lawyers apparently feels the same way … and apparently doesn’t realize we know how to read lips “he’s so boring”
What? He's literally doing and EXCELLENT job. He definitely knows how to handle a jury and present a case. Perfectly slow for them to absorb these horrors as they hear them, but not so slow if they lose interest. His timing and order of things is perfect ... So that the story/situation can be completely understood. I think he's doing a very impressive job
They really deserve the best lawyer he's good but not good enough he shouldn't need to stand awkwardly and read from paper he should have done his homework prior knowing this was going to be a very well known case. I just think he's the wrong person for this special case.
He's not a prosecutor, this isn't a criminal case. This is a civil suit brought by Maya against JH, therefore, Maya is the plaintiff and JH is the defendant.
I myself watched the story on Netflix and if it's accurate John Hopkins Hospital and Social Worker finally belongs on trial after what they did to this family it's sickening if ya haven't seen it watch the documentary explains it all. I truly am shocked at the hospital for how they handled Maya's case i sometimes forget hospital administration it's all about the business making money at end of the day than patient care😮 Social Worker is an idiot to go after a family so hard and didn't have the grounds personally i think they realized at some point Maya did have a terrible disease but they went so far to go after that mother point of no return the way the hospital and CPS did is unbelievable when they don't for families who should of had all that type of attention to remove kids that truly need to be. I wish this family the very best hope they win this case and start some healing together as a family i just wish mom was here and didn't make such a final decision 🙏❤️
Maya, I don't know if you are permitted to read these comments so I'll leave it here for now or in the future. I had not heard of this case before now. I see there is a documentary on Netflix which I will watch after you win the trial. And you will win. Your lawyer's opening statement was nothing short of real and brilliant. Not "lawyer speak". You must be getting triggered from his descriptions. Know that it is all necessary for success. To the "other side": SHAME! You should have settled this case in private and not dragged this poor family through the mud. Good God, an innocent woman killed herself because of YOUR hospital's CRUEL treatment of Beata, Maya, and Father/Son. I will NEVER ever seek treatment from your hospital. I hope and pray a criminal trial comes against you. Don't hide behind "just doing our duty". If you had, Beata would be alive and you would NOT have kept Maya hostage. I am sick to my stomach listening to the opening statements.
While this family suffered the unthinkable and deserved a much needed justice, their lawyer read the opening arguments as he was reading the weather report…awful job in opening statements 👎.
what the heck is going on?? this opening statement is so incredibly hard to follow. I'm not sure this guy even knows what it is he is saying... it really feels like he is reading out loud something he is reading for the first time...
Exactly what I was thinking!…That he spent less than an hour the night before throwing notes together and didn’t even read them over before delivering. This is bad.
Criminal charges have to be filed. These people are monsters. Inflicting such suffering, those who are defending are truly repugnant. Beautiful children & family who have been quite literally tortured. Imagine to be wrongfully accused of child abuse. Lawyers are truly vile defending this hospital and as parents they should be ashamed.
Civil lawyers are apparently much lousier than criminal lawyers in court. This guy, Amber Heard's attorney, and the entire cast of characters at the Gwyneth Paltrow trial. I wonder if any of them even took mock trial in law school.
agreed. yawn. exactly 46:00 min…one of the defense lawyers apparently feels the same way … and apparently doesn’t realize we know how to read lips “he’s so boring”
I am so happy to have found that the trial has started. Catching up. Little girl, I am so sorry for everything you went through, and your parents and brother, and for losing your mom. You will get justice, I promise you. I am crying with you. Justice for Maya. 😢😢
Everyone who watched the documentary including all those on court TV who have preempted this case in Maya's favor should pay very close attention to the entire civil trial. Not knowing anything about this case myself or having watched the documentary, it sure looks like people have been manipulated by the documentary producers. The case of the plaintiff in court sounds just like the overview of the documentary given by court TV presenters who all were outraged by the Hospital's treatment, all based on the documentary. The hospital defense lawyer's opening statement dealt with all those accusations in a reasoned manner. Let's see the whole trial and see the evidence.
@@BackrowErnie Pretty easy. Just watch the docu without any prejudgement or emotion. Within less than half an hour you will clearly see how this child was being coached by her mother. I have read a lot of comments and I can't believe how many people don't see through this obvious scam. This hospital did everything by the book and helped this child and this is the thanks they get. I really hope the hospital goes for appeal on this because what has happened here is disasterous, not only for the hospital but also for people suffering who will now be afraid to go to a hospital. I would counter sue this family and the docu makers to oblivion if I were JH.
Save yourself the trouble of this unprepared, sniffling attorney’s opening by hitting the tool gear, top right, and set the playback speed at 1.5. It helped me get through it. 😊
Even though the physicians weren't able to diagnose her with CRPS they gave her the therapy they give to those patients. They even gave her Ketamine. What was wrong with that? I think people are mad because of the court order and mix it up with the hospitals actions. Just my thoughts.
By the way, this case of Maya also reminded me of my own situation, i.e. I myself have had and still have some ailments and diseases for which I definitely need medication and for some also strong medication in large doses (e.g. severe migraine and now already Horton's neuralgia and other pains, traumas that are sometimes accompanied by almost unbearable emotional pain and anxiety etc.). Everything is known and prescribed by the doctor who knows me best, but no, some care providers and even ordinary people(!) who are completely unaware of my situation 'know' that I am more of a drug addict and that's why I use them, not so much for the real need. How utterly outrageous, unreasonable and indecent. I could relate so much to Maya's frustration and hurt when she talked about this in her Netflix series, it was so sadly familiar. Way too many people is just diabolic and pure filth without any kind of normal brain function.
Plaintiff attorney is not a great orator. He rambles a bit, doesn't always finish sentences/ thoughts. Some of his questions (as noted in subsequent videos for this case) are convoluted and/or poorly worded. I think this may negatively impact Maya's case.
This is one of the most horrifying things I’ve ever heard this poor family please don’t let these awful dispicable rouge so called health care givers get away with this awful crime yes it’s a crime Make them pay for the pain they have caused this family an never ever work in the industry again
Wow, I think we all feel the same way thank you attorneys for taking this case on and of course my mother for recording everything that makes a difference. I hope this case is the watershed case in which this will never happen again to a child or question a persons, pain management.
I watched a documentary about Maya,,,,,It was the saddest thing I had watched in a long time. The mother was 1 in a million moms, ,,the love for her child was everything, ,,, She tried everything for Maya, she was being accused of Munchausen by proxy. At hearing that, she knew if she was around, no one would help her daughters, so, she committed suicide.....there is tons more stuff on Netflix,,,,,,

I’m so happy that her case is finally being heard. This family needs justice.
THIS 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
AMA in general has way too much power.

💜
The judge was asked by Maya’s mother to allow her to hug her child while they were at a hearing together and he said NO. The hospital allowed Maya, her father and priest only one hour together when they told her about her mothers death. They made the family leave. Can you tell me how not ONE person in that entire time while she was detained in the hospital, had the guts to do something?
I do not understand why the judge didn’t allow a hug! A hug for gods sake!! Absolute cruelty.
I would have, fxxk protocol I'd lose my job who cares
We’re all for you Maya 💜💜💜
John Hopkins didn’t wanna settle and they wanna drag this poor girl out in court? Such bullshit
They are paying the two tables of attorneys probably more than a settlement would be
JH also defaulted on HeLa cells of Henrietta Lacks. They really should have, at a minimum, compensated her family.
Thank you. Watching it now.
I cried my eyes out also. It was so awful, for maya and her family 😢
I love that you spoke her winning into existence 😭🥰

No money can fix this. Those doctors and nurses need jail time.Alot of jail time.
The award for the entire family would be astronomical if I were on the jury!
I'm sad this happened, we need more coming forward on what medical industry does.
Omg I’m so sorry!! That’s awful that doctor did that to you!
Had something similar happen to me. A psychiatrist came in my room with students and grabbed my leg hard to prove it didn’t hurt 🙄 I screamed so loud and made a nurse run in 😭
What operation ? Operations don’t cause this, only injuries and it usually goes away eventually.
@@chrisper5559 you obviously haven't a clue what you are talking about!!
I wish CourtTV wouldn’t zoom into the face of the victim while she is crying. Let’s not exploit this girl anymore than she already has been!
They keep doing it constantly throughout the trial.
Judge who refused to let May's mother hug her needs to be prosecuted and the Florida DCF has been getting away with this deal for years!
So happy to see Maya and the family get their case in front of a jury.
I cannot believe that the hospital actually chose to take this to trial. I’m glad Maya and her family will FINALLY get some justice though! Stay strong Maya!
The hospital probably tried to settle, but the family didn’t want to do that. Glad this case being heard! They need justice. 🙏🏽
I don’t blame them at all. They saved her
Saved her? Really
I think this strong lovely family wanted it brought to light to protect others.
The family did receive $2.5M from Dr..Smith
I’m a nurse too, this happens with the elderly all of the time, just doesn’t get the same attention.
Happened to my aunt. I was kicked out for complaining.
I am so so sorry that your family had to endure that.
I definitely agree with CPS being so wrong in so many cases.
One thing I know. They didn't find any evidence against the mother.
Give this family all the money they're asking for and more. This behavior needs to STOP!
Jeez! I'm sorry y'all are going through crap. Our system is set up for profit not outcomes. Sad.
Healthcare communication is SOOOO important!

All lawyers should take public speaking courses. I’ve seen many cases lost purely because of a monotone lawyer.
Also, the Prosecutor should stick to what he knows, and LEAVE The Medical Diagnosis and Disease processes to the MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS…Good Lord! Because he was wrong on so many levels about his medical definitions

This reeks of the same catastrophic cruelty by Boston Children's Hospital. "The Battle for Justina Pelletier" is now a documentary on Peacock.
It is a stupidly common situation. And yet, people who actually do abuse their children constantly get away with it. How many times was CPS called on Ruby Franke over the years?

I’m surprised JH hasn’t settled out of court. This is a pretty gruesome commentary on the care, or lack there of, offered by their institution. The documentary was as riveting as it was horrifying. I hope this trial has the same effect on the jury as it had on those who watched it.

Yeah now I’m scared of it…
People say that patients should be self advocating, yet whenever I've asked questions and contradicted any of my doctors' decisions, I received vehement backlash.
No, no! ALways have a loved one present to advocate for you!
Same. Same and same. Well said.
This is the most telling of the state of pain treatment in America. It’s life destroying for your entire family.

Judge Collins of Sarasota is not the judge who okayed the prior Child Protective Service orders. That may have been Judge Hayworth.
Haworth, Lee. Yes.
this family deserves better. The hospital wanted Beata to die. She did. Maya, you’re not alone, we are all on your side.
Why didn’t the hospital just settle out of court? They are going to lose big time to a lot of terrible publicity, and they will have to pay out anyhow.
If they were guilty, they would’ve settled long ago. They saved her and this is the thanks they get.
I'm pretty sure the family refused to settle. The family wanted to go to court so the world could hear their story. They should so other victims will come forward. Maya isn't alone and I really think not just the hositpal should be sued but also DCF for blindly following Bedys recommendations
Gives me anxiety just listening to this case. Beata was an RN and I can imagine there was a lot of
bureaucracy involved amongst the experts
I think the medical professionals got caught up in "who's in charge, who's right or wrong, who's running the show, "it's what i say that goes" . Professionals can get this way and unfortunately the challenges become more important than the patient themselves. Maya deserves every penny of the lawsuit. The medical professionals should be reprimanded .

Hope they get a massive payout!
Wish all the of the family the best off love ,hopefully you will get justice and you all be able to move on ❤❤❤
What a mature family, very impressive.
Horrific! I hope they are awarded every single cent they are going for
I myself watched the story on Netflix and if it's accurate John Hopkins Hospital and Social Worker finally belongs on trial after what they did to this family it's sickening if ya haven't seen it watch the documentary explains it all.
Felt same way at first. One month later and & he has drip by drip destroyed JH.
Situations like this are why I left a nursing career I dearly loved.
So sorry. Flip side is the selfless nurses.
selfless?@@barbaracollins5605
It is no wonder that so many Canadians and Americans fly across the sea to receive treatment in my country
Thank you! Me too and I smell a lot of BS and a money grab
Chris, I’ve seen you post this opinion multiple times…how did you come to this firm conclusion so early on in the trial?
John Hopkins is in for a lot of hurt!
Good catch. One month later and u r rite!!!
How are these people not criminally charged & how did John Hopkins settle this case & beg for mercy!!?? I will never trust a hospital again.
Justice ⚖ and prayers 🙏 ❤
Wow… I’ve heard the name before “Maya” all over social media.. So, I decided I’d come here to see what she’s all about..
I’m speechless 😵💫
This was a prison and everyone was treated as a criminal in this family!!!!
Does anyone know the amount they're suing for?
200 mil
This is one of the most horrifying things I’ve ever heard this poor family please don’t let these awful dispicable rouge so called health care givers get away with this awful crime yes it’s a crime
Make them pay for the pain they have caused this family an never ever work in the industry again
Wow, I think we all feel the same way thank you attorneys for taking this case on and of course my mother for recording everything that makes a difference. I hope this case is the watershed case in which this will never happen again to a child or question a persons, pain management.
They need Johnny depps lawyer
I watched a documentary about Maya,,,,,It was the saddest thing I had watched in a long time. The mother was 1 in a million moms, ,,the love for her child was everything, ,,, She tried everything for Maya, she was being accused of Munchausen by proxy. At hearing that, she knew if she was around, no one would help her daughters, so, she committed suicide.....there is tons more stuff on Netflix,,,,,,
I pray Maya wins a bundle!!!
Justice for dear Maya and family ❤
