I think it's long safe to bring it up about the Reinnes and Ser Bron of the Black Water as the suggestion doesn't really impact anything. I've been waiting for y'all to watch this to hear the full story to say it. But there is a mainly book theory that Bron is the youngest Rainne boy and survived and is using the Lannisters to reestablish his house. He would have been around the same age Bron recalls killing his first man.

One of the biggest tragedies in terms of story changes made by the show from the books is what they did to the Golden Company...mostly because they left out the OTHER Targaryen from the show..and how the Golden Company was his army and that they may have fought with Danny before the winner went to Westeros. That part of the story still to this day has not been released in the supposedly coming novel that Martin may now never allow to be released due to how much the show changed, altering story expectations.

"I don’t believe any dragon skull would be worthless, especially when everyone thought they went extinct. People freak out over tiny dinosaur bones nowadays."
Nowadays. Of course dragon skulls would be valuable. But first find someone who pays for something like that. Paleontology is a relatively modern invention. And Game of Thrones is analog to the Middle Ages more or less. The common people of King's Landing have better shit (like surviving) to do than searching for skulls (even rare ones) that they maybe hopefully could sell to someone. The only ones who probably would be interested are the maesters and how much skulls do they need? And also the maesters would be stupid to not pick these skulls up themselves, they would need to varify where thr skull came frome (and that it actually is a dragon skull).

And it obviously wasn't part of the wight, because that was killed right in the middle, right in front of where Cersei was sitting, and jon and Dany were standing right next to the wall at the edge of the pit when they found the skull.

The Reyenes of castamere is something I've been waiting for, this version especially captures how much of a threat Tywin was, why he was the one holding the balance of power, what it meant for the Starks to go to war with him, the show really doesn't do it justice.

Just a bit more context in the story about Castamere. Tywin wasn’t being a snake. He was 100% correct at the time. What the story told by Jaimie leaves out is that Tywin made 3 attempts to resolve the issue and was rebuffed each time. He realized rhe Reynes and Tarbecks were plotting on overthrowing the Lannisters for their own greedy reasons and tywins father would literally just run away and ignore what was happening. Tywin was forced to act when he knew his father wouldn’t. In the books, Tywin isn’t really proud of the events, instead he’s proud that he’s been able to keep the peace long enough that he has never had to be that violent again.

The same holds true for the riverlands.
The Tyrions wife gangr*pe thing…I’ll give you that. It was horrendous. But I never said Tywin was saintly.
My ultimate point was Tywin crushed and destroyed and entire family and their line because he knew a message needed to be sent and he correctly stated he never had to preemptively destroy another family like that ever again. (Wartime is a separate issue).

Tywin always go for the most violent option even if is not the smartest thing to do, he is praise for his brutality but most of the time he could handle things different with way less bloodshed and a better outcome.

I find it amazing that all of this came out of one man's head. All of the Houses, the characters, and the settings with full histories for each, and to have them all intertwined without error. It's just remarkable how imaginative GRR Martin is and I can only imagine how many years it took to create an entire world and keep everything straight so that nothing contradicts anything else. Now if he'd just finish the last book before he dies so we know what actually happened.

It helps that GRRM is a man of history, when there is so much medieval history to draw upon, it’s not difficult to imagine that he has many real life figures to draw upon as inspiration for the various houses and regions and characters. The more we learn, the more we can use. And Medieval English history is filled with various types of people. It’s not a coincidence that both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon can be mapped onto the Wars of the Roses and The Anarchy.

I think in building up Dany’s stories in those early seasons, Viserys had to be in an antagonistic state so that we would root for Dany. But I think if the show had added a different perspective or maybe some flashbacks, we could have seen Viserys a little differently. Imagine being 5 years old and have your family’s entire hopes and legacy on your shoulders, your mother and father and brother dead, you’re on your own caring for your baby sister, your guardian dies, you’re left to scrape and fight to survive while dodging assassins. To be honest, it’s a miracle Dany survived as long as she did to be married off or have a future, and part of that needs to be credited to Viserys trying to protect both of them. Yes he grew to be cruel and bitter but he was a kid who had everything taken away and tried his best and didn’t have better people around to raise him and guide him to be a better man and he lost his way. In a way his life was a tragedy. Dany named her dragon after him to remember the good part of her brother, the part that protected her.

So funny that you are both hoping to hear more about Lyanna and Rhaegar’s initial encounter… you already know about it but did not connect the dots (rewatch Season 6 History & Lore). It is not confirmed but it is a very popular fan theory (and frankly enough quite a plausible explanation) that Lyanna was the mysterious Knight of the Laughing Tree who won a few rounds at the Harrenhal Tourney to defend Howland Reed’s honor before vanishing into thin air. Rhaegar guessed her identity and expressed his admiration by giving her a crown of blue roses when he won the tournament, acknowledging that she was the actual victor.

About Viserys, the brother of Daenerys :
    He wasn't always an asshole...
He's a kid raised like a prince by a crazy, psychotic king, who saw his whole family executed during a rebellion, and who was forced to live in exile with his little sister.
When their savior died, Viserys and Daenerys were left to fend for themselves. Viserys cared for his sister as best he could, but was forced into begging, and had to spend his entire youth thwarting Robert's plans to eliminate her.
He even had to sell his mother's crown to survive, which he will never forgive himself.
And he always think he will going to mary to Daenerys (like his ancestor's tradition), so give Daenerys to Drogon is a strong defeat in his psychology, like the sold of his mother's crown : The sold of his heritage...
Finally, he spent his entire adolescence in fear, rejection and begging, which will cause him a strong bitterness, resentment, paranoia (he escaped numerous attempts at assassination), and finally madness.
While he spent the first years of their exile protecting his little sister, he will gradually end up finding her unbearable and naive, who does not understand Viserys' obsessive need to seek at all costs to regain his crown (and he will end up sometimes becoming violent towards her).
Viserys is indeed crushed by the weight of history, he wants to live up to his illustrious ancestors and could not tolerate seeing his lineage die out in misery and oblivion. It is there that he meets Illirio Mopatis and then plans to give his sister to Khal Drogo as a promise of his army.
At her death, Daenerys will remember her brother as a protector, at the time of her tender childhood, and will understand that the disappointments of life will have twisted him, and it is in honor of the brother that he once was and not of the sad one he had become, whom she will name one of her dragons Viserion.
Note: ALL Targaryens have this same genetic bias: A propensity to twist, when they undergo strong annoyance, setbacks, injustices, shocks.
For example, the Mad King was an energetic and ambitious man during his childhood. It is especially after his kidnapping that the mad king will sink into madness, but he was not born that way.
This trait is found in many Targaryens.
For example, one could assume that Daemon's instability is also linked to his many annoyances that he suffered from his brother (even if thoses are still justified)

But the mad king was offended by her win and demanded that knight be braught to him . Rhaegar was the one in charge of investigating the mysterious knight (he probably found her) this also explains why he crowned her Queen of love and beauty . Because she was honorable and in his eyes deserved that title.

He may have said something about how he thought he heard Rhaegar talk about taking her to King's Landing, knowing that it would be Aerys and not Rhaegar who saw his contempt, very likely leading to Brandon getting hurt. He probably didn't expect Rickard to follow and get himself killed, or Jon to be asked for Ned's and Robert's heads and rise in revolt, it spiraled way out of what he had imagined, but he found a way to capitalise on it, and that's what made him realise how beneficial it can be to him to sow chaos.

In ASOIF, bending the knee" is a formal act of submission to a king, queen or lord, a recognition of authority and a demonstration of fealty. The submission makes the kneeler a vassal. IE, Torrhen Stark aka the King Who Knelt to Aegon The Conqueror. The King in the North title was revived after the Northern and River Lords rejected the Iron Throne and House Baratheon after Eddard Starks execution. Just 15 (17 in book) years earlier, under the Targaryen rule they and their warden were executed without trial. The Great Houses of the 7 Kingdoms were King of their regions. House Stark was once King in the North. Note the title difference, King In the North vs King of. One word suggests a greater vulnerability and responsiblity to the Vassals

The Golden Company was created by a bastard son of King Aegon IV the Unworthy (Great Grandson of Viserys, HOTD).
Aegon IV was a notorious fornicator who fathered dozens of bastards. But he was in open conflict with his legitimate son (who was noble, where Aegon IV was one of the worst kings of the dynasty).
To punish his son, Aegon IV left at his death a last poisoned gift to the kingdom: He legitimized all his bastard children. Of course, this caused problems in the succession.
One of his bastards, Daemon Water, was a pure-blooded Targaryen bastard, for if he was born out of wedlock (his mother was Daena Targaryen).
Aegon IV loved this bastard child more than his legitimate son, and entrusted him with the royal sword Blackfire, one of the symbols of royalty, and Daemons Water then abandoned his bastard name: "Water" (for the bastards of Kings landing), in favor of "Blackfire". Upon the death of Aegon IV the Unworthy, Daemon Blackfire founded the Golden Company and attempted to seize the throne.
After the "first Blackfire Rebellion, he died at the hands of another of Aegon's bastard sons, Bryden River, loyal to the rightful heir.
And this individual you know because he will become many years later... The three-eyed crow!
As Daemon Blackfire had offspring, there have been several Blackfire revolts in history, and the last member of the Blackfire family was killed by none other than Barristan Selmy, which put an end to his life for good. the Targaryen bastard branch responsible for several civil wars!

Is it just because Jon's real name is Agon? and that he is named after Agon the Conqueror And Agon the Conqueror had a dream of the cold winter and the end of all men. Let me explain: The name Agon is a popular targaryen name, nothing else. Just because Jon is named after the Conqueror, it does not mean that Jon is the prince who was promised. Or is it something else . What do you base on that is Jon is the prince who was promised.
The real prince who was promised is daenerys stormborn of house Targaryen. Because in the song of ice and fire, it is daenerys who gets the dragons back after 300 years, not Jon. It's Danny who brings fire, not Jon. Then comes in to this with the fact that Danny is not a prince but a princess. The Golden Company was a complete joke in Game of Thrones.
The Blackfyres were founded by Daemon Blackfyre. His brother Aegor Bittersteel founded his own house called "Bittersteel" and his sigil was the dragonhorse on a yellow field that you saw. It is a combination of House Bracken and Targaryen because his mother was a Bracken. The Blackfyre sigil is just the Targaryen one but inverted "The Black Dragon", personally i think it looks way better i am a bit of a Blackfyre supporter myself. The Golden Company wants a Blackfyre on the throne and in the books they are with a young lad called "Young Griff" who says he is Aegon Targaryen who is thought to have been killed by the mountain during the rebellion but it is weird that the golden company follows a Targaryen when they are sworn enemies so it is very possible that Young Griff isnt Aegon Targaryen but Aegon Blackfyre.

Actually, Pudgy is right. These are meant for after the season has concluded. How do we know? Because these stories were only available on purchase of the DVD collection for a given season. These were extras on each season DVD set. And, the DVD collections are only released after the season has finished.

They're meant to be watched before watching the season on DVD, that's why Randal Tarley mentions that Olenna is the only Tyrell left, that only makes sense before season 7, not after it.

@@arobin6695completely wrong. Based on their release date shows the intent of the order the creators meant for it to be watched. Perhaps you're too young for DVD, but bonus tracks are always meant for after the main content, not before. Besides, there are dead people (for example: Viserys Targaryen), speaking from a perspective they commonly held. Viserys was dead before season 7, and by your logic, makes no sense here. These are supposed to be stories similar to reading out of a diary ... a point in time in that person's mind ... which allows the viewers to throw their own bias on top of it, as they have seen certain events unfold.
If that doesn't sway you, Spartan literally said that they watch it at the end of the seasons to better avoid spoilers. The bonus scenes for each season literally have spoilers for the season just watched. You really think the creators intended to spoil their main show?
Finally, who in the world would have ever watched all of the bonus lore from season 1, without first having watched season 1 to see if they even care? All of this bonus stuff is meant for after the seasons (like their great mods have been ensuring). It's absolutely nuts to think otherwise.

    • @arobin6695

@@stevesmith4600 There are no spoilers for that season in any history and lore videos. The purpose of the videos is to give viewers background information, that's information that would be useful to know before watching the series. A feature talking about House Tarly is shown before watching episodes taking place at the Tarly castle. A video talking about the War of the Ninepenny Kings is meant to be watched before a season where characters mention that war by name with no context or explanation of what it was. Most people arent going to watch the special features before the episodes but that's clearly the way they're meant to be watched.

In the early version of "The Song of Ice and Fire" guidebook - which is now considered semi-canon - the things around Rains were even more brutal. In this version, Tywin's forces took Tarbeckhall by assault and Lady Elin was captured and hanged from the top window of one of the fortress's towers. Tion the Red, one of her sons, was hacked to death at the castle gates. Lady Elin's youngest son, still a baby, was thrown into the castle well by one of Tywin's knights.

Weird how every single reactor sees absolutely nothing wrong with a complete stranger from a foreign land, coming to your front doorstep and demanding you bend the knee, surrender your tradition and ideals or get nuked, medieval dragon style. House Targaryen are literal terrorists and I never got the support for them. Yeah it’s a cool story, but come on, let’s be realistic - were you one of the lords in Westeros before Aegon, and he made his demands you certainly wouldn’t be saying - “you know what - that’s a pretty sweet deal!”

-There was a theory that Varys may have been a Targaryen supporter cause he is bald and he may have protected Dany for being killed. But an interesting second theory was that his intents do not seem clear cause he is actually a Blackfyre supporter. So I had come up with a cool storyline for Season 8 where the Golden Company would come to Westeros as sell swords to defend the Lannisters but then upon coming into contact with Varys, they would change side when he would inform them who he is. He would talk to them about reclaiming their birthright and they would conspire to stab Dany in the back as well and put Jon on the Throne. It would fit given that Jon was not completely Targ while having some of it himself. Then you see Jon accessing the Throne in controversy.
-Concerning the White Walkers and Maesters, you would think Castleblack would have had Maesters over time that would informed the Citadel that the WW exist.
-Rhaegar looking like Viserys: everybody thought this was the same actor but they really did hire someone else that ended up looking like him with the wig.
-BTW I always wished it would have been House Stark and the North that would have never bent the knee against Aegon instead of Dorne. I love the idea of these badass harsh and defiant people from the North being unconquerable. Like a bunch of people that don't want power and conquest but at the same time want to be left alone. Remember when in Season 8 Dany says:"dragons don't like the North, the cold" and they barely ate. That could be a detractor for the dragons. I see the North as this vast infinite place that is unattainble and a place that you cannot take or control. Maybe there could have been secret pact between The North and the rest of Westeros like "leave us alone and we'll take care of the Walkers". So there would be a sort of understanding.

So the end of this episode.. when I first saw it I was an huge fan of the show. I watched since season one every season as it Aired. I had John figured out before this but I finally had the confirmation and it made me think about his and benjens reunion. Benjen in season 1 came down after Ned took the head of one of his rangers saying he saw white walkers. Benjen sees John and they have a good hug and John begs to become a nights watchmen. Benjen replies you don't know what you'd be giving up. What that really means John. And John disregards it and pleas his case. and I realized. Ned told only one person who John was. He couldn't lie to his brother about their sister's son. Benjen loved John till the end. Then I realized Maester aemon got to council his last living realitive and grew to love and appreciate him more then words. He even voted for his cause to become lord commander. His only living relative he got to meet after the war.
