  • What To Feed DEER In 2024!!! It's a New Year and following the deer season it is now time to give back to the land and wildlife. As the cold weather continues we know that the make deer will need to regain some weight following the breeding season. It is said that a male buck can lose up to 20% of their body weight as they chase the doe...so clearly some nutrition and calories will be needed. Also, the doe have been bred and now that they are pregnant with fawns they too will need the best nutrition possible to ensure that the next generation on our property meet their full potential. The feed that we are using is the Buck Bourbon Barrel Proof blend with distiller grains, protein, minerals, crude fat and fiber, etc. Also, the cinnamon garlic flavor will bring them in from miles! We use this feed in 350lb boss buck gravity feeders and spead out some Buck Bourbon 110 proof...which we fondly call our secret weapon! We plan to feed the best possible feed to the deer on our property answering the question, "What to feed Deer in 2024!"

    Great video . Just got done today filling corn and protein feeders today on my little 92 acres of East Texas piney woods . Love my Boss Buck feeders , bullet proof . We're able to feed year round in Texas and it's NEVER too early to start a supplemental feed program.

    Almost like beef farming without the watering trough and tagging the live stock. Taking in inventory, checking out the deer stock health, making sure proper Nutrition and safe place to romp and calve. Harvest once a year and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Sounds like farming to me.

    Great video Joe. Never thought about leaving the engine running when putting the feed out, but it makes perfect sense. Heater in the 550 also makes perfect sense. Enjoyed the video.

      Thanks for watching buddy! I notice the deer really could care less about any motor (tractor, side by side, etc). It’s when it turns off they realize you aren’t leaving! Lol. We actually considered driving right through the food plots at one point during the season to get them to think the chuck wagon was coming. Never did, but would be interesting! Appreciate you watching and yes, that heat and cab have been a significant upgrade. Take care brother!

    always enjoy watching your videos. love the content and your land. Wish it was that easy for us to set up a feeder and watch it but our property is in the hills of Texas. With that being said its primarily rocks and hard material. And we have a terrible issue with the hogs and they destroy our feeders every season. I tried a gravity feeder, and it didn't last long as the hogs knocked them over. I made a stand & fill and have had success and it's holding up. Again, thanks for another great video, keep up the great work.

    • @JoeTheFarmer
      @JoeTheFarmer  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you so much for the kind words; and support! My buddies in TX tell me about the hogs and it has to be so frustrating putting out feed and getting it wiped out by hogs. People don't realize how destructive they can be. I do like the boss buck for their simplicity and they are just indestructible. We've broken legs on them, but that's an easy and cheap fix. Good luck this season, appreciate you my friend!

    I’ve been buying 50lb sacks of corn at Bucees in Athens for $10.00. It’s a lot easier on the wallet when buying in bulk. I noticed a sign at the bottom of the pallet saying limit 120 sacks per customer lol.

    • @JoeTheFarmer
      @JoeTheFarmer  8 місяців тому +1

      😂 So did you try to buy more than 120?!?! Lol... That is a great price for corn. Have you tried mixing a bag of protein pellets in there? Just something generic? Would be interesting to see if they would eat around the protein. Buck Bourbon they will eat right away, but plain protein they don't like as much. Picky picky!

    • @bryans5339
      @bryans5339 8 місяців тому

    • @JoeTheFarmer
      @JoeTheFarmer  8 місяців тому +1

      @@Freedom2219 I go back a forth. I like that we can take two bucks and don’t have to buy tons of corn to compete with neighbors…but also think its a disadvantage for those that can’t just take off work and hunt for weeks to hope a deer walks by. I just play by the rules and get the feed experience in Ky. Which has its own challenges when the deer know EXACTLY where the danger is. Blessed to have had some luck this year. Hope you did too!!!

    • @JoeTheFarmer
      @JoeTheFarmer  8 місяців тому +1

      Hey! The cotton seed worked great, but it is just too costly to source it in TN. I have moved to more of a protein blend for feeding. Buck Bourbon Barrel Proof is great, but you can just blend two bags corn with one bag protein pellets and top with an attractant. I would still feed the cotton seed if it was simple and reasonably priced. Thanks for watching!

      Retail is around 17.99. Pallet saves about 10%. It's an investment for sure but I absolutely believe it works. Not for public land; but we have very few hunters around us and have seen a major jump in the herd over the past few years.
