Thousands of people in low-lying suburbs of Sydney have been told they may have to leave their homes as torrential rains batter parts of the country's east coast.
Officials have warned of "life-threatening flash floods", with waters not expected to subside until Thursday.

Seems like only a few months ago Australia was struggling with bush fires
It what’s called “extreme” weather events. This is the result of climate change.
Well, that was a few months by the 2020 calendar. In reality it was over a year ago. It was Dec/Jan 19/20. Australia does tend to have extreme weather. I’m not saying it’s not climate change, and it does seem to be a bit more extreme than usual, but extreme is our normal too. There’s an old poem we learnt at school called My Country, written in the early 1900’s. It goes

Of droughts and flooding rains

You do realize that, if occasional, these events are completely normal? That’s not to say I’m careless about them, otherwise I wouldn’t have watched this video in the first place. Nature isn’t in rage, nature is just doing what it has been doing for millions of year. Well two of those places are Winsor and Wilberforce. Winsor is at risk of going under water. Australia has fires in summer and spring but rain is mainly in winter and Autumn.

Covid really didn't have much of an effect there. One state had a very harsh lockdown, but most of the country got by fine. And it seems everything is practically back to normal there now.

@@jenlovesjesus I lived and worked there for six months and for the majority of the country, it's really not as hot as most people would think. In the southern parts of the country, and particularly the island-state of Tasmania, it gets legitimately cold and rains a lot. In fact, Australia gets more snow cover on average than Switzerland does. I think the reason they kept it under control so well was the fact they had extremely draconian lockdown measures, and they've basically shut themselves off from the rest of the world for over a year.

@crema de la soda Nothing like Brazil and there was no deforestration from the bushfires here- the trees are back to life. This is the La Nina whether system that comes each 4 or 5 years, and always has had. The Aborigines knew about it, then the colonists when their farms were sweept away about each 30 years. The last big La Nina flood of this size was in 1990, before that 1960, before that 1929, before that 1901- see the pattern. Drought, Flood, nice weather, drought, flood, nice weather... It is actually good for the environment (it will kill off feral mice, cats, rabbits and foxes, but not the native animals who can swim and nowhere to go) but it's bad for people who build houses on flood plains.
I pray for the wellbeing of all the inhabitants of Australia. Hope everything comes back to normal soon.

There’s flooding of the the Northern Rivers and the areas around the dam in northern Sydney. It’s not across the whole state and even the state premier is wrong in saying that it is a once in a century flood. Not yet, anyway.

I live in Victoria with family in New South Wales (they are all ok). I think sending out police cars and trucks is no good. The authorities need to get boats out there to help people who are stranded or need to evacuate
