Epoxy Art: Painting With Resin!

  • Painting with resin isn't a new technique but it was a first for me. It is a very relaxing and enjoyable process. I love the way the colors flow into each other.
    I tried tipping and the propane torch but I found for me the heat gun was the easiest method that yielded the best results. I know this will not be my last piece of resin wall art and I would encourage anyone wanting to make art to try this method.

    oh, do a ferromagnetic fluid surrounding a magnetic, so you get a spiky look. And suspend by a string (To hold it up for half of the pour, and then remove once it can be held by the resin), so you get like a black star thing floating in a clear sphere.

      @tennicktenstyl 7 років тому +3

      oh yeah, but needs to ensure that the fluid won't mess up the resin, I mean I don't know how oil reacts with resin, and it would be a pretty weak point.

    • @Twinkieuddy
      @Twinkieuddy 7 років тому +3

      I used to work with resin a lot and if I remember correctly, oils are a nono for resin. It affects the reaction between the hardener and resin. So you would be suck with cleaning uncured resin.

    That is so cool!
    I wonder how many paintings it would take to build up enough spill over to have a decent thickness for cutting into turning blanks... The layers and layers of different colors and patterns would probably be spectacular. Much like the auto paint scraps that Carl Jacobson uses.

    Any time you say "I'm making these decisions without any idea what I'm doing." That's how new things (and extremely pretty things) are born. Whenever you are adventurous with your creations, they always turn out the coolest and most interesting. Please, keep doing what you do. It's so wonderfully enjoyable to come home and watch you create. One day I hope to create with resin as well!

    For future reference: _*How to make grey without black: *_ I'm an artist, so I know what I'm talking about here. :) The best greys come from red, blue and white. Rather than just use black and white (boring); if you mix red and blue then add white you can choose either a warm or cool grey depending on how much red or blue you add. Since they are opposite colours on the colour wheel, when added they form a tertiary colour. When you add white to that you get grey. When you do a landscape painting, this is usually the horizon colour, and in lesser and lesser degree is added to every other colour in a painting. Lesser as you move up and down from the horizon. This is called playing the temperature scale. Also you get much nicer greys this way and have far more control in them.
    _*Framing*_: Design is a huge part of art, and learning it can take a long time. The starting point is the same for anyone wanting to make beautiful art in whatever form. The start is always the rule of thirds, or the golden ratio. Basically take your canvas/film/board/tapestry or whatever, and divide it into thirds both horizontally and vertically. Where the intersections are is where you want to place your subject. This is not the be all and end all of design, this is where you start learning it.
    As for this technique, I think it's a stunning technique, the details achieved are just beautiful. I think you should definitely do some more of these. Your design was nice, simple and worked, which is always a good place to do art. :)

      @elisaberghaus328 7 років тому +5

      red and blue aren't opposites on the colour wheel :) red and green, and orange and blue are ^^ so to make a greyish colour you can use a blue and an orange-leaning red. Other than that great advise!

      I am an artist, and they do make purple, but when you add white, they make the most beautiful warm and cool greys.

    • @NeonsStyleHD

    all of these are pretty typical artist problems. 'I'm just gonna start mixing up colors and we'll see what happens' and 'should i add to this? will it ruin it? ?? I'm gonna go ahead and do it. shoot, i ruined it! time for damage control.'
    the end product looks so awesome! it looks like a big tidal wave. I've been using resin to seal canvas with glitter on it so it doesn't flake off, and so the glitter looks very reflective in direct light. i might try doing this, if i can save up the money for all that resin lol

    I love this so much, it has a very organic look to it, natural and the copper brings out so much depth it looks very much like a green aventurine stone/crystal.

    Way cool idea! Thank you for this! I think it would have been cool if you used the copper to accent the black and make it look more mountainy rather than as its own section. Turned out really cool though!

    *PETER I HAVE THE BEST IDEA!!* Do Some resin art but instead do it on a wood board but put some kind of wax paper on top so it doesn't stick and when your done take it off the wax paper and you'll have a thin pane of awesome resin art which you could put on some sort of backlit frame!
    *LIKE FOR HIS ATTENTION!*

    What would happen if you pour molten wax into mixed but still not hardened resin? Would it risk affecting the chemistry, or would it be possible to suspend pours like this?

    • @ScruffyUnicorn
      @ScruffyUnicorn 7 років тому

      Austin Yates I don't think it would have any positive effects; the resin is a two part epoxy, one resin, and one catalyst. It cannot be stopped and the only way I would imagine it could be slowed would be by cooling it in a fridge or something, but that would likely have negative effects. So, in short, no.

    • @austinyates3546
      @austinyates3546 7 років тому +1

      ScruffyUnicorn I think you misunderstood my phrasing, haha. I meant, would it be possible to suspend wax inside two part resin that has already been mixed, or would the heat of the melted wax adversely affect the curing? I wouldn't intend it to suspend the action of curing, but rather suspend the physical aesthetic of pouring wax.
