Megadeth Monday, man that's the only thing I've heard all day that makes a bit of sense. Thank you, now I want to see them live again just one more time. Mondays just got a whole lot better.

After Youthanasia is where they started losing me. Then they came out with The System Has Failed; and for some reason I really liked that album, then they lost me again.
@@profanepersonality I have jammed hard to them for over 20 years, closer to 30. Youthanasia was the last album I bought. I've heard a few other songs here and there, but I need to dive back into their catalog.
I can see why some people might take issue with So Far's production, but I like the eerie, haunting quality that it lends the material. On this track especially, I feel like it actually greatly benefits the song. The remastered version is totally lifeless in comparison, to my ears at least. Looking forward to Megadeth Mondays!
So Far So Good is their all around best album, it's just so well-written and recorded. I find it warmer and easier on the ears than Rust in Peace, which is more cold and clinical sounding.
The Max Norman productions from the early 90's actually used that era's equivalent of auto-tune. Norman confirmed it in recent interviews. Those albums technically sound great, but I don't think that style suits the band as well as the much grittier sound that their 80's producers gave them
Based on the Ibanez bass that was shown in the studio and Dave confirming the new bassist was there the list of likely bass players has been narrowed down to two. Steve DiGiorgio from Testament or Felipe Andreoli from Angra. Both would be phenomenal choices and probably the best bass player Megadeth has ever had from a technical perspective. Personally, I hope it's Felipe.
The thing you're picking up on in the riffs is "chromatic" ascension. The notes are rising a semi-tone at a time against a steady backing note. Very perceptive to pick up on it. Another song that uses this to great effect is The Call of Ktulu.
Mary Jane its a forgotten masterpiece this song was written and performed during the Peace Sells tour, but sadly there are not studios recordings with Gar and Chris. Bad Omen should be the next!
He was amazing in Jag Panzer, try to request them when ever U can catch a live stream, Broderick is amazing, just wish Act of Defiance we'rent so disappointing considering the talent invovled

SFSGSW is their best album in more ways than one. I think the production sounds more punk rock than their next few albums. I think that adds well to the chaos that surrounded this album's creation. Right before the band got sober. The SP cover was an odd, but fitting choice for this album. Love and peace.
I haven't heard "Mary Jane" in years! I love that track, but hearing it now it sounds alot like "In My Darkest Hour." If you haven't gotten to that song, get on it, that's one of my favorites from Dave & crew.
Yes man, Megadeth Mondays is a great idea and so glad to see you're getting to more of their late career stuff as well! No one does as many megadeth reactions as you and that one of many reasons why I love this channel! Cheers T!
I like the buried vocals on Mary Jane. It soound like they were just playing this live in the studio and hit "record". There is a raw energy to this that I really love.
5:00 it's the chromatic ascending of the notes, that means they are ascending one semitone higher and higher, I hope it's explained well. Some fun facts: Mary Jane is based on a legend about a witch that lived near David Ellefson hometown, you can even find the tombstone of her on the internet. And Dave considers the 13 as his lucky number because it was present in important moments of his life.
You need to listen Symptom of the Universe from Black Sabbath, that's one of the first proto thrash songs in metal history with one of the greatest transitions in the end.
Those early Megadeth albums in their original, raw versions will never be truly replicated cos the technology was different... analog tapes, 80's production values... Nowadays, u got digital files, pro tools and crystal clear audio. Ur right, production could've been better in '88, but it's kinda what represents the 80's thrash metal era. Plenty of polished Megadeth albums after that...
Humbled by this guy's knowledge of the Megadeth catalog. He immediately recognizes tonal similarities across their discography that I've missed all along, and he's spot-on. Excellent and perceptive!
Just recently started watching your reaction videos and they are awesome! Been listening to metal since the early 80’s and I still love it! Take a listen to ICED EARTH, maybe start w the INCURRUPTIBLE album- there are so many. Just to mention, one of the founding members of the band was arrested for participating in the Jan 6 protests at the capital. Several members of the band left and the band is currently inactive from what it seems. Aside from that, Iced Earth is one of my favorite bands and I hardly see any reaction videos on their work. Rock On!
Steve DiGiorgio is a monster bassist...one of my favorites, as well. Saw him with Death on their Individual Thought Patterns tour way back when at the Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia. Not sure how his and Dave's personalities would mesh, though. DiGiorgio likes to have a good time while Mustaine doesn't even allow band members to smoke cigarettes (at least, he didn't when Al Di Meola joined). Plus, I don't think Steve would let Dave try and push him around.
I seen an article suggesting he would be a good fit. I thought so too because of something another poster said about Michael Anthony. Mike may be good but he might not have the stamina to play in a metal band like Megadeth since they are nothing like Van Halen.
If you haven’t already heard 502, Liar and In My Darkest Hour then I would love to your reaction to them. Additionally, A Tout Le Mond is a great balllad song.
13 is a personal favorite if mine, those lyrics really hit home... "Like a severed arm washed up on the shore, I just don't think I can give anymore"... That feeling when the world is just tearing you apart and you feel if it takes anymore it'll take your life... Strikes me at the core.
MegaDeth Monday is like taking a trip down Memory Lane for me. My metalhead friends and I cruising the northeastern Alabama/northwestern Georgia backroads with the stereo blasting, no particular destination in mind...it was the journey that mattered, the desire for adventure that urged us onward. There are some great songs on So Far...So Good...So What but (as you mentioned) not the best sound production. Edit: Man, I hadn't even considered Michael Anthony for MegaDeth. Not gonna lie, though, I'm more than a bit intrigued by the idea. As you said, he's definitely a veteran when it comes to working with big ego bandmates. He's professional, a really talented bassist/back up vocalist, and a hard worker. Hmmm 🤔
Another unique track for Megadeth is one called diadem's, I prefer the alternate version if you can find it but either one is really good. Nothing like Mary-Jane and absolutely nothing like any of their other songs. This is my first time catching a video of your channel. I already like it.
Thank you for playing my request 13.... You know I always bring the Fire! Here is a suggestion.. My first Patreon request you played was ENDGAME, which is incredible by the way.. So is the album. Once you finish with So Far So Good, go through some of the newer albums like Endgame, then Super Collider, & 13. All of the tracks are solid. You already have done most of the old stuff, it will prepare you for the latest album "The Sick The Dying and the Dead."
I loved the album 13 even though it had a few tracks that were generic throwaways (mainly the song "Guns, Drugs, and Money") The song Sudden Death is vicious and was the final song on either rock band or guitar hero. I know that "Sudden Death" will be right up your alley. Very underrated album. Much of it was B-Sides like songs from Video Game soundtracks (examples: "Sudden Death" "New World Order" and "Never Dead") and older songs that Dave finally finished writing (like "Millennial of the Blind") There were also plenty of new songs made specifically for the album also
I agree on Hanger 18. I made a point of learning how to play both songs on guitar and there is a real similarity in how that central chord progression and lick are done (my sense was the two songs were him exploring that musical idea)
Love this song, also like the Paul Lani Mix because that one part where the air and sound gets sucked out but it sucks cause it doesn’t have those melodic intro notes like this version
i've been playing for 14 years, 3 looking some theory to make my own music and i can say, after all, your intuition and feels are the best thing you can follow. if you saw a connection with hangar 18, i thought it too when you said and im pretty sure if we analyze it, sure they have patrons or notes in common
As far as i know this song is about a teenage girl who was buried alive by her priest father after he found her masturbating and labeled her a Witch... Thats what Dave said in one concert when introducing the song about to be played.
I'm a long time Megadeth fan, but I only recently discovered 'Mary Jane'. I'm really pissed at myself because this is basically their coolest song ever in my opinion and I never gave it a shot before.🙁 (By the way, if you haven't yet, you should check out the remastered version of this song/album.)
Fun fact: According to Dave, the final straw with producer Paul Lani came when one morning Dave Mustaine woke up and saw Paul outside feeding a peeled apple to a deer. Dave fired him on the spot and was on a plane back to LA the same day.
A couple of suggestions and a comment. These are three songs I think you still need to check out. The first two are covers, Anarchy in the UK (Sex Pistols) and No More Mr. Nice Guy (Alice Cooper) from that Shocker Soundtrack. The other is the version of A Tout Le Monde featuring Cristina Scabbia (The United Abominations version, not the original). Finally, you might want to read Dave’s autobiography Mustaine: A metal memoir. It covers up to 2009 and may give you more insight into the band, as well as into Dave, who is a very deep and complex individual.
Dude, I love your reactions. I am a huge Megadeth fan and Mary Jane is sure one of the most underrated Megadeth songs. It's hauntingly beautiful. Maybe a little irrelevant, but you should try Black Future by Vektor. Give it a shot and I promise you won't be disappointed.
Michael Anthony? Are you kidding? Anyway, Mary Jane, amazing song with an unique structure. And 13, great too. The album 13 is so underrated. It's like a recapitulation of Megadeth's whole career.
As long as Michael Anthony has his act together, I think he might be a good choice. It is just that he was a serious alcoholic in his Van Hahlen days. Although Dave had much more serious addiction issues than that, his alcoholism started his slide. Metallica will tell you that is why they kicked him out (Alcohol overuse) and Dave even admits to some issues. I think, it could be great though. Michael is close enough in age to have similar influences and really cut his teeth in the LA rock scene like Dave did. Plus, it was a Van Hahlen bass part being played in the apartment below him ( The bass intro to Runnin With the Devil) that introduced Dave to David Ellefson, so it would be a full circle kind of thing.
I never gave the 13 album a chance when it came out , listened to it once and put bit away. This song is actually really good after hearing it again after all these years.
I'm so pleased you got to thirteen. People are so stuck on rust in peace and the classic era, so to speak, which was phenomenal, but megadeth has been putting out amazing shit in the 2000's too. I also love public enemy no 1 from this album. Also dig the idea of megadeth Monday. There's SO MUCH more you need to hear from this band. I get what you're saying about jumping around their catalogue. And yes, Mary Jane was an awesome song! Look up the meaning. Haunting AF!

And I'm still wide awake... Mary Jane
From the earth up through the trees
I can here her calling me
Her voice rides on the breeze
Oh, it's haunting me
No, I can't get away
No, there's no escape
If I know I'm going crazy
I must not be insane
Beware my friends as you pass by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now so you must be
Prepare my friends to follow me
Forgive me father for I have sinned
I'm a child of the air, I'm a witch of the wind
Fingers gripped around my brain
No control, my mind is lame
I'm in the astral plane and I'll never be the same
Never, never... never
Beware my friends as you pass by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now so you must be
Prepare my friends to follow me
It hurts so bad I can't breathe
Prepare to follow me
