  • An exciting range of board track racers, stayer motorcycles and aircraft-propelled cars was on display during the 6th Vintage Revival Montlhéry, hosted at the legendary Linas-Montlhéry Autodrome.
The Board Track Racer grid was dominated by Harley-Davidson but there were also a couple of Indian Motorcycles in the mix, together with a nice example of an Excelsior Super X. A Rudge was also spotted. In addition, two Stayer motorcycles rode with the racing crowd. These motorcycles are particularly impressive as they were built in the olden days by the pacers, using parts from other motorcycles, with engine displacements as large as 2.3 Litres and higher - simply mad. Finally, there were also aircraft-propelled cars "flying" around the speedway called Leyat-Helica. Marcel Leyat - a French car manufacturer - believed, that if a propeller is powerful enough to power an aircraft, it surely could also power a car. His first creation he then called "Helica".

The good old Rudge got away with no problems, the American bikes needed no end of help; sounded all very sick & by the time they got running the Rudge had done one lap 😂

Yes indeed, the Rudge had a very elegant and smooth start, compared to some of her American counterparts! 😊

@Outlawflyer78: The propeller car in the video footage is called a "Leyat Helica". It was Frenchman Marcel Leyat back in the days who the idea of a wingless airplane for the road - early in the 20st century, all sorts of different technologies were being thrown at the wall to see which would stick and which would slide. Leyat was never able to get funding for a large-scale production and he produced around 30 units in total. in 1927, a Helica reached a respectable speed of 106 mph (171 km/h) at the Montlhéry circuit in the outskirts of Paris where this video footage was also recorded. :-)
