    Came across this only today due to a kind friend sharing it on facebook. So, naturally, I had to share it too, and tell everyone I could. Your work is inspirational and when you watch it, you end up with a lovely warm glow, because out there, are real artists doing amazing work, and sharing like this, so we can all have a go too, or at least feel a little better about the human race :) Thank you Dan, have a wonderful festive holiday (or Christmas if you prefer ;) ). Dan,
    You make great work and the fact that you respond to virtually every comment is almost saintly.
    Thanks for the amazing work and taking the time to post it online for all of us.

      That is very nice of you to say KnitOutTheJams! I think that if someone is willing to take the time to watch my videos and then write to me that the least I can do is respond. I did respond to every comment since I started UA-cam, but a year ago, when Google took over UA-cam, I lost my channel. They were able to retrieve my videos with the comments, but not my subscribers or any of my responses. That was such a bummer. I know you didn't need to hear all of that. But there it is. Thank you!

      Hey,
      I'm unhappy to hear you were in that kind of situation due to corporate monopolizing of The Internet even further than it already has been.
      I'm sorry you had to go through all that but you've got a fresh and loyal subscriber here. Im so glad to see you are enjoying your well-earned retirement.

    Dan, I am in awe of your work and thank you deeply for sharing it and your process. I have one suggestion/request which is that you credit the background music you use - I like many of your choices (especially this one) and would like to support the artists by buying their music. Thanks!

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  9 років тому

      Hello Julia. I use only somewhat generic, "royalty free" music. These artists sell their work to these companies exacty for this purpose. I support them by paying for the music and using it exactly as the license requires. This is a very different realm of music that the kinds of music you are referring to. Thanks for the note.

    • @juliadeetruchsess
      @juliadeetruchsess 9 років тому

      GourmetPaperMache Hi Dan, I didn't mean to imply that you were using the music unethically, I just wanted to hear more! I am familiar with "needle-drop" royalty-free libraries; you've chosen a good one!

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  9 років тому

      juliadeetruchsess
      Thanks Julia. And I didn't mean to sound defensive. I use four or five companies. I buy several and them promptly forget which companies I use for what music. The truth is I'm just too disorganized to do the right thing. I can say that this piece is called "Hard Life." Don't know the artist. Take care

    Hello. I was wondering if , and I know it would be a lot of work and time, but I as a watcher of you videos, which I think are awesome, would think it would be cool if you made a video of a dragon or other creature in proportion to the head you made in this video. It's just a suggestion, but I think it would be pretty cool.

    I absolutely Love your work! You construct with such ease! Thanks for sharing & showing the 'how to's', do you ever teach a class? If so, where? Do you attend shows or public events where one can go and see your work in person and/or watch you actually making one? I'm just venturing out into the paper mâché (haven't done it since elementary school) it's almost a lost art! But what I love is how you top it with cloth (more durable), and the appearance is remarkable, not to mention the entire final project is lightweight! Thank you again for sharing! I'm very excited about trying it!!

    I am going to subscribe WHOOH !!! Awesome work love it ! yes there is a stigma that relates to the phrase "PAPER MACHE" I had the same sort of reluctance from people when I had a business called Creative Cactus Co where I was making cacti ( mainly the Cereus Giganteus ) as coat stands etc and just as decorations as my biggest were 8ft tall .. blah blah... anyway I dropped using paper mache and used "HYDRO POLLIMA FIBER " instead .This seemed to be a magic cure as I now had a secret recipe that generated interest and acceptance !!! as pathetic as is seems it helped 100% .My big interest in paper mache came to me as I watched a program about poor people in Africa and their ingenuity with available raw materials and wholly cow ! Out comes a wheel chair made from paper mache for a crippled friend I was blown away !

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  9 років тому

      Hello Brian. Thanks for the commentary . I appreciate your experience. Here's the problem. People search the term "paper mache" almost 4000 times a day. I'm pretty sure they don't search "hydro pollima fiber" nearly as much. If the key words that lead to your business are not searched, you won't get found. Take care

      Hello Freageek. I use just flour and water paste with newspaper for the initial paper mache parts. After I sculpt I add a "skin" of cloth (old bed sheets) dipped in white glue (like Elmer's). I call it "cloth mache". Makes the project strong and allows for details you can't get with just paper. Good luck with your project!

    This is INCREDIBLE. I'm about to undertake a similar project. What did you use to create the teeth? Polymer clay? And your glue is simple white pva glue and white fabric sheets over the top of paper mache? Or something like Paverpol? Are you using a simple flour paste for the the paper mache or another recipe? Where did you get the glass half orbs for eyes? Sorry for asking so many questions. Is it just masking tape you're using to hold everything together? Thanks in advance for your time!

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  3 роки тому +1

      Hello Carla. I do use polymer clay for the teeth, usually Fimo. After sculpting with paper mache pieces I add a "skin" of cloth (old bed sheets) dipped in white glue. I like Elmer's but any white glue will work. I dubbed the process "cloth mache" for lack of a better term. I use just flour and water paste for the paper mache. I buy eyes online from taxidermy companies. There are many companies to choose from. And yes, I use masking tape to hold the paper mache pieces together. Good luck to you!

    hi dan phil here i am having trouble with my masking tape it does'nt seem to stick as well as yours does any ideas thanks

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  10 років тому

      Hello Philip. All masking tape is not equal. First, I hope you are not using the colored kind, blue or green. That is terrible. If you are using the regular beige kind then what's happening is that there is a small amount of residual flour on the outside of your mache pieces. To fix this, rub white glue all over your mache pieces and let them dry overnight. The tape will stick then. Also, after you have been sculpting with tape, again smear white glue over the project. That will keep everything together until you get the cloth mache on.
      Good luck!
      Dan
