Not every draft class is the same strength, so some years, guys like Trey Lance or Justin Fields would’ve been the #1 pick instead of the 3rd or 4th QB off the board. Same thing with other positions. That LSU team was more dominant than any team in history and having the best college QB ever makes up for 5-6 first rounders

Also had the greatest game ever played (2005 rose bowl)

Controversies almost every year in the BCS- '98 with Ohio State not playing for the title and KState falling to the Alamo Bowl, '99 with 1 loss Nebraska nearly jumping VT in the BCS Standings at the end of the year, 2000 with FSU getting in over Miami, who they lost to, '01 with Nebraska not even playing in the Big 12 Championship Game and playing for the title, '03 Oklahoma-SC controversy, '04 3 undefeated BCS conference teams, etc etc etc, etc, there were only 2-3 seasons in the BCS era when it was clearcut. The CFP is better. Imagine if you have a team like 2001 Fresno State run the table or 2010 Boise run it and Alabama doesn't blow its lead against Auburn. is that what you wanna see? Fresno or Boise playing a stacked team like '01 Miami or '10 Oregon and being 20+ point underdogs and getting blown tf out? Mid-majors don't belong with the elites in football, it's not basketball, the physical differences are huge between Alabama and BYU for example.

Group of 5 teams beat power 5 teams on occasion
-06 season, undefeated Boise State beat conference champ Oklahoma in the Fiesta bowl
-08 season, undefeated (mountain west) Utah defeated a 1 loss, Nick Saban, Bama team that had been ranked #1 in the country for 4 weeks late into the season. They beat Bama more handily than the national champs, UF, had beaten Bama that year too!
-2017 season, undefeated UCF beat an Auburn team that had beat both Bama and Georgia, who both played in the natty game.
-yes, more often than not the power 5 teams win but they lose too and snobby blue blood college football fans always seem to forget bowl loses like these.

What team on that list has done that. Not one, most those teams on that list were one dimensional. Remember the word team. Oh and I know they won a couple close ones and what’s your point. I saw a lot of Miami because they were in the Big East and they were often on the regional ABC coverage over here on the East Coast along with the Big 12 and Big Ten teams (never got Pac 12 games unless the teams were ranked in the Top 5), but their legacy is greatly overrated. The Big East was terrible in the early 2000s. They basically had a two game season every year against FSU and Virginia Tech and just had to go through the motions with everybody else. The College Football Playoff is better, no faking your way to title games in weak conferences, you have to earn it with a semifinal playoff victory and then if you play a fluke like ND or Washington in the semis, you end up having to play a real monster like Alabama for example in the title game. Teams have to earn it now, the BCS always left the possibility open that you'd get a title game between two teams who ran the table in the two weakest BCS conferences while a superior team in say the Big 12 or SEC had to go through a war zone and had one slip-up and wasn't rewarded for its far tougher schedule.

Any list that doesn't start with the 95 Huskers is laughable at best. Beating 4 top 10 teams by an average score of 49-18.25? 2001 Miami beat an 8-4 VT team by 2 & needed a pick 6 to hold of an 8-4 BC team. The numbers don't lie.

    • @jimapplebee5322
      @jimapplebee5322 5 років тому +4

@L Nebraska beat 4 top 10 teams (3 ended up 10-2 & 1 at 12-1) by an average of 49-18.25. Miami played 1 top 10 team & 4 top 15 teams. Syracuse ended up 10-3, Nebraska 11-2, then 3 @ 8-4. The comparative records of the opponents is basically a wash, with Nebraska's being .003 better.
What Miami magic? They could barely hang with BC & VT.
Special teams? Kickoff returns were nearly identical (Nebraska +3 yards total) & Miami had a 2 yard per kick avg advantage. Miami had 2 return TDs & Nebraska had 1. Not that big of an advantage, like you want to try & make it seem.
Nebraska scored 10.5 more points per game & gave up 4.75 more points per game, but you can chalk that up to having our backups in a lot more.
NCAA rankings rushing offense (NU #1, Miami #21) passing offense (NU #89, Miami #35), scoring offense (NU #1, Miami #3) total offense (NU #2, Miami #8). Rushing D (NU #2, Miami # 40) Pass efficiency D (NU #21, Miami #1), total D (NU #13, Miami #6)
That 40th ranked rushing D would be no match for our #1 ranked rushing offense. By comparison, in 2001 Nebraska was also #1 in rushing offense with 314.67 ypg, but in 95 we averaged 399.8 ypg. So while we ran the ball on Miami, they'd try to pass against our D & look how that turned out for Costa the year before. We'd wear down your D & knock your QB around & hurry him into mistakes. It wouldn't be near as close as the 1995 Orange bowl.

It only looks good on paper. Maybe you're too young or you don't live on the East Coast and didn't watch enough of Miami's games, but their dominant stretch was when the Big East was trash and Florida State was down. The only two teams on their schedule who could realistically beat them were FSU and VT and even then they still had some close calls with average Big East teams. The BCS was a flawed system, the CFP is much better. I wish they'd use the BCS computer formula to actually select the teams, so that you don't get frauds like ND and Washington getting in, but it all plays out properly because fake teams will never win two games in a row against the heavy hitters, and even Clemson, who plays in the trash ACC, has to earn it with two wins. No more sneaking in to the title game on some fake sh--.

1995 Nebraska. Teams put 9-10 in the box and NU averaged 400 yards a game rushing. Colorado, Kansas, KSU all lost to Nebraska and round-robin'ed lost to each other. Each won their bowl games handily. Florida? That FLA team went on to win the championship the next year. They lost early to FSU by 3 when they were clearly the better team. They killed them in the NCS. Nebraska pummeled them the year before, 62-24. It could've been 73-18 (two missed extra points, a 2 point conversion faultily ruled "down,", kneel on the 1 at end of game, FLA TD kid was actually out of bounds).
Saban stated NU was probably the best team he ever played...stating this years later after getting killed by them at Michigan State. And people saying 1995 and 2001 NU were comparable. No, they weren't. '95 was much better than the '01 team.
Lastly, they gave up so many points because they had fans playing in the 4th quarter. When you're up 35 going into the last period it just needed to be done. KSU was 42-6 going into the 4th. They got it to 42-25 before the 1st string came back and scored again.

Players 3 back had insane talent, never has there been a tem that loaded, never will be. Miami was plainly snubbed in 2000 and plainly cheated in 2002. FACTS!

Hurricanes were number 1 easily the greatest college football team ever it's not even close nobody had more talent on defense and offense an special teams than Miami did. Whoever ranked Miami at number 7 needs to put down the crack pipe.

Russell Westbrook Fan since 2010 , lol, you keep pushing this 2016 Bama team. Like we said on another thread ... 2016 Bama has one of the best defenses, but you can’t select a team that lost in the championship game.

@@ht82smash42 Who was their QB? Definitely not an elite prospect like Joe Burrow. The QB is so important that it makes up for 5-6 first rounders. Also, that Miami team was built for an early 2000’s defense and offense, meaning that the lighter, faster players at today’s positions would beat them. The game has evolved.

@@brendonbuffaloe8830 lol, you're funny. Remember this, Larry Coker was a Rookie Head Coach. Your teams would have lost by 35+ points before halftime against that 2001 Miami, if you guys played in early 2000s when you could actually STILL HIT PLAYERS. And stop thinking you guys could beat that team. Miami's 2nd team would keep you scoreless

@@sadrackdorce1059 Why do you say “you guys” lol? I didn’t play on the team. The Miami team wouldn’t be able to cover the LSU receivers, and Joe Burrow would carve them up. Alabama had the better defense of the two, but having Burrow makes LSU the better team. It’s two different eras of football between 2001 and today. LSU would run 5 WR sets, and Miami wouldn’t have even 2 or 3 CB’s good enough to cover those receivers. Then Miami would come out in 3 TE sets and try and run the ball the whole game.

@@brendonbuffaloe8830 Dude, Antrel Rolle covered and shutdown Larry Fitzgerald, an All-Pro Future Hall of Famer, on his own. And he was just a Freshman on the team, along with Sean Taylor. Dude, none of the LSU players right now are going a huge dent in the NFL right now as suppose to the 2001 Team. Question, could that LSU team could physically play Miami with 2001 rules? Because LSU was a recent champion, and 2001 Miami is a legendary team. Comparing 2001 Miami to LSU is comparing Elizabeth Taylor to Jessica Simpson. Better yet, OLD MONEY to NEW MONEY. LSU was not chopped liver at all. But 1995 Nebraska would be a challenge to 2001 Miami. Wait 5 more years and see how those LSU players do in the league

The 2001 crums were the best team? Because the players from Butch Davis era were bought an paid for! An the u got put on Probation a year later!! Did`t hear Herbstreit say anything about that! The u has been put on probation more time than they have ACC Championships!
