I made a mistake.

  • So we have had the Jaguar for about a month now, and I wont lie its been one of the most unreliable cars ive ever owned, its been constant problems and issues.. now im hoping that this is just because we got the car cheap and theres just a little issues that we need to resolve and it'll be good after this. BUT.. I'll admit, we have made a mistake.
In the last video you saw that we straight piped the Jag, now although the 5.0 supercharged V8 sounds AWESOME.. its way too loud as a daily and it was a mistake putting that exhaust on, so today we are firstly installing some blackboxes to make it bit quieter. We are also installing a new thermostat to the jaguar xf r as you will also have seen, we got left stranded when the thermostat decided to break and get stuck closed meaning the car kept overheating.. now the whole day DID not go to plan and this car is starting to get on my nerves.
    Hope you enjoy the video.

Tip for keeping sealant fresh: remove the nozzle and clean it, place doubled over cling film over the hole and then screw the nozzle back on - works like a charm!

I think the point in those clips is to allow them to expand and contract with heat and keep the same tension. Jubilee clips cant expand so once they are loose they leak. Thats what i got taught. 😂

Exhaust cut outs are the way forward on the XFR's, doing them just before the back boxes is perfect. Mine run on a remote fob with various settings, so you can have complete stock or a backbox delete with a press of a button. Also mine I fitted has various positions of open for the valves, so you can choose exactly how loud you want it.

The spring clips are used because they are the correct crush pressure and on the line, the person fitting the hose to the joint boss only had to pull a "grenade pin" to release the clip and effectively seal it correctly. Hose clips are slow and inconsistent in assembly.
The CAD works to a 3mm clearance, so yes, some tasks are painful but often easier from underneath Lee. I'm afraid the genuine parts lesson is so annoying, but only learn it once, right?
One final thing, rather than losing your mind (car doesn't have one to give), have a brew, come back out, and it'll go right straight away. The more you fight it, the more painful it becomes. Good luck

Silicone trick when you’ve finished using it push some out of the nozzle about a cm worth and let it dry creates a plug on the end when it sets and when you need it next pull the dried silicone out the end of the nozzle good to go.

Great video mate. Been watching for years now, nice to see this format back 👌
Engines do not like back pressure in reference to your losing power comment. Back pressure is exactly what it sounds like ( a build up of pressure ) which slows down the gases from leaving the engine hence why you gain power from removing cats because you are removing back pressure by removing them.
A good quality tubular manifold and well designed exhaust will actually speed up the gases leaving the exhaust from exhaust pulsing.

    Would've been easy if you'd:
    1. Used the correct tools. Proper pliers for the pipe clamps and silicone spray to separate those 2 plastic parts.
    2. Bought the genuine part from Jag instead of cheaping out. Weren't they a 50k odd car new? £80 for a genuine thermostat is a bargain if you ask me.
