Good Video! and just to mention: To come to Peru best season is between April - September, despite coldest in Lima during this time (coast), because people also regularly wants to visit Cusco region and Machu Picchu and during these months is dry season (not rainy) in the Andes so is the best time to visit Peru. Remember not everyone can visit Peru 2 times :) Note 1: another mistake is keep visiting only fancy neighborhoods. You cant feel the real Lima and you can lose the chance to visit some famous and delicious "huariques" Note 2: perfect months to visit Peru: April (still nice weather in Lima (coast) and ending the rainy season in Cusco (andes) or September/October (rainy season has not started yet and cheaper than other months) .
Good tips. 👍 Tipping is “optional”, but it is expected. 10% is a good tip. Locals tend to round up the bill amount, but tourists usually tip better. ;) Thank you for promoting Lima, Peru. Hope you make it to other regions of Peru. Lima is and is not Peru. Go figure. You’ll understand the more you travel throughout Peru. :)

I've gotten away with bringing peruvian Pisco to Chile but doubt Perú would allow that. If you still want to bring it take the label out or scrap the name pisco and you might get away with it, since the problem is not about what liquor is in the bottle but a beverage called pisco coming from somewhere else besides Peru/ Chile.

It seems like you didn't understand them well. They said that airport officials don't distinguish coca leaves from cocaine, so you can get in trouble if you forget to get the coca leaves out of your bag.
that's what they get mixed up at the airport more often than not and trust me they fail to spot a difference everytime. you're better off not taking any consumables along for the journey back home. you'll be bereft of any rights to make a case and you'll get told off the joint in trice.
Best time to visit Lima is in summer from January to March, specially in February, the sun is always on and is diferent and there are so much activities in the coast, is more vibrant. Unfortunatelly our winter is gray and foggy all the time, but I think has charm too. You should have visited other parts of the city as the zoo, or pre-Inca ruins.
The problem of going during the Southern summer is that is rainy season in the Andes and makes it extremely dangerous to visit Machu Picchu because of flash floods and landslides. Tourists have gotten trapped in Aguascalientes after a flood years ago. Train service was suspended and they had to be rescued by choppers. I would say best time to go to Peru altogether is end of March-April or November-beginning of December. Weather is much better in fall and spring rather than summer or winter.
I don't think you are idiots as you said. On the contrary, I want to thank you for sharing your experiences here in Peru. I lived in NJ and Virginia for 35 years and this past 7 years I am back in Lima. All you said is true. Have a nice time here!

Another thing is to avoid carrying lots of cash in your pockets. Peru is a beautiful country but also they are many thieves (pickpocket). And this accidents happen in the day and night. Try to just take with you a decent amount of money that you might be considering spending the day.. This is what I do. Every time I visit Peru and I’m planning to go shopping, I just take around 300-400 soles in cash( 200 dollars). Because there is a risk someone with a knife or gun can stop me and steal everything that I have with me ( this is true, unfortunately) That’s why I prefer taking just a few amount of cash that can cover my ride to and from the shopping mall, food , and the things I will be buying at the shopping mall(souvenirs, clothes, etc). And if I really like something else, and I’m out of cash, I can come back again, maybe the same day or the next day to go and get it.. It’s not a good idea to be wandering in the streets of Lima with lots of shopping bags, that can attract these “muggers”. It’s always better to have a ride ready as soon as you leave (in this case exiting the mall with your shopping bags) so you can go straight to your ride and be safe. ***If unfortunately you become a victim, DONT fight back, or Refuse to give your belonging, these people have guns and they will do everything to obtain their purpose.
I think the more you live life like you 2 are doing, the more you 2 will learn to temper your "allergies" (overcome). You 2 are inspirational. Thanks for sharing and keeping it real!
6:40 only if you feel like you were treated very well (verbally) and carefully (gentle placement of dishes and revision of dishes) you give what you feel is proper. It could be 1 sol or 100, but there is no law that imposes you to give an exact number for the tip. This is why the culture of Peru is known for not giving tips to the waiters, everybody supposes that everything is included in the price. If you were imposed to pay for the 10% of tip they are just trying to impose what apparently comes from the american culture in their restaurant, thinking that you come from there. You can report this action in the "book of complaints" that every restaurant, clinic and business shop have by law. There is a % extra that expensive restaurants ask called a payment for "cubierto" , which really is 10% but for the restaurant not a tip for the waiters. This is for the fine bread, sauces, fine cloth to clean the mouth (instead of paper), hygiene. Even if you don't want these accessories, you still receive it cause you will have to pay it. But it has to be written in the advertisement of the restaurant (oftentimes written very tiny so that you see blurry).
Most of South America uses 220v, except Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. For phones and computers, this is really not a problem -- as most adapters can take 110v to 220v. Check your adapter and you should see '110v - 220/240v' on it.
We did check our laptop chargers and they were fine but when it comes to our standard plug/usb chargers 🔌 for our phone, cameras, and other things like that, a converter is necessary so as not to fry them
@@TangerineTravels This is a voltage converter -> i.ebayimg.com/images/i/400732805505-0-1/s-l1000.jpg. They can be much larger, but those huge ones are not needed for traveling. That Mobo thing is not a voltage converter, rather it just has your basic Schuko-like plug. Hi kids. I do not comment on youtube much, but I just wanted to say that I was in Peru two weeks ago myself. I think you guys really missed out on the true magic of this country by not going to Cusco(truly mind blowing). I did not do Machu Picchu, but the other archaeological sites around there and in the Sacred Valley are fucking amazing. If you get chance to go back, I would highly recommend Cusco(just watch out for altitude sickness). I love your travel videos(they make me want to visit Mexico again). I was pleased recently to see that you had been to San Cristobal de las Casas. Great town(I felt very much at home there). Thanks for the awesome content. Cheers! Tom
Hi guys. I'm from Lima and that hole on the windows or walls is not a common thing here in Peru. That was very strange to see even for me. And yes, we do not have air conditioning in our houses. We freeze during winter, especially if you live in Miraflores and other districts that are by the sea. The closest you are to the sea, the colder and wetter it is. Lima has many microclimates and that makes it very difficult to know what to wear, even during summer. So be prepared for every weather.
7:30 you are right, there is no respect for the pedestrian, that's a shame. The tips are not an obligation here, you can give the amount you feel comfortable with.
Whether you are a native speaker or you learned Spanish as a second language, you can understand Spanish from any other Spanish speaking country. Differences are not that abysmal. Assuming that they are is like saying Canadians can't understand a word of Australian English, which is not true. Of course, there are some differences, but both are mutually intelligible.
True! What we found particularly difficult were food names being completely different. For instance, we know avocado as “aguacate” in Mexico and in Lima it was “palta.” That’s not really an accent difference so ordering food was tricky, especially with some food allergies we have.

THEY HAVE THE BEST BUFFET IN TOWN.
Regarding Machu Pichu its better to schedule the trip and get the admission tickets in advance since it can get crowded and there's a limit to how many people get in to the archeological area. A knowlegable travel agent is a good idea.
Or...book a trekking... I took a salkantay trek which rakes around 5 days.. Its a grear experience and i was asked if i wanted to go to the huanapicchu (for an extra) and that was it. Loom for prices.. Dont pay 700 for the trek.. You might get it around 300
Just read the specs on your charger, mostly all of the chargers accept 110 to 220 V, meaning you can use it without an adapter. I live in Canada (110V) and when I go to Peru (220V) I never used an adapter, and never had issues with burning up electronics. Read the info on them, they're there for something.
Maybe they say that for other electronics like hair dryers or irons who are often sold only for use on the purchase country. Cellphone and notebook chargers are always designed for all voltage and amperage mixes in the world.
Coca is NOT Cocain, Maddy! One would probably need a room full of Coca leaves and a whole lot of chemicals to create a couple of gram Cocaine. Coca tea is also very healthy tea.

To come to Peru best season is between April - September, despite coldest in Lima during this time (coast), because people also regularly wants to visit Cusco region and Machu Picchu and during these months is dry season (not rainy) in the Andes so is the best time to visit Peru.
Remember not everyone can visit Peru 2 times :)
Note 1: another mistake is keep visiting only fancy neighborhoods. You cant feel the real Lima and you can lose the chance to visit some famous and delicious "huariques"
Note 2: perfect months to visit Peru: April (still nice weather in Lima (coast) and ending the rainy season in Cusco (andes) or September/October (rainy season has not started yet and cheaper than other months) .
:O
Totally!
Inka Jungle Tour um not really, Peru isn’t only Machu picchu, summer is the best season for Lima, between December and april would be fine lol
Good tips. 👍
Tipping is “optional”, but it is expected. 10% is a good tip. Locals tend to round up the bill amount, but tourists usually tip better. ;)
Thank you for promoting Lima, Peru. Hope you make it to other regions of Peru. Lima is and is not Peru. Go figure. You’ll understand the more you travel throughout Peru. :)

Another "huge mistake" is to bring "chilean" pisco tu peru or viceversa... Don't do it... Please hahaha

(1:08) there is NO such thing as “cocaine leaves”... they are “coca leaves”. You have to educate yourself a bit more before making those statements!
It seems like you didn't understand them well. They said that airport officials don't distinguish coca leaves from cocaine, so you can get in trouble if you forget to get the coca leaves out of your bag.
@@tataditiditin sure but there is not such thing as cocaine leaves
that's what they get mixed up at the airport more often than not and trust me they fail to spot a difference everytime. you're better off not taking any consumables along for the journey back home. you'll be bereft of any rights to make a case and you'll get told off the joint in trice.

Great Video I went to Peru in April 2018 with a good friend. We were there for 6 days, and managed to spend 2 days in lima, and the rest in the cusco area. We were somehow able to squeeze in Machu Picchu into our 6 day trip, granted we didn't sleep a lot. It is a must see if you ever go back to peru, the whole area surrounding it, known as the sacred valley is breathtaking as well.

Because there is a risk someone with a knife or gun can stop me and steal everything that I have with me ( this is true, unfortunately)
That’s why I prefer taking just a few amount of cash that can cover my ride to and from the shopping mall, food , and the things I will be buying at the shopping mall(souvenirs, clothes, etc).
These thefts are chusco people
I think the more you live life like you 2 are doing, the more you 2 will learn to temper your "allergies" (overcome). You 2 are inspirational. Thanks for sharing and keeping it real!
We really hope so! Thanks Mark :)
Since you came in this winter, I recommend you to go to “Lomas of Lachay”
or wherever instead Larcomar...its just stores and shopping. Parque de las aguas, Lunahuana, Las huacas are better things to visit
Also, the leaves are an agricultural product and most countries don't allow agricultural products to come into their country.
Very good point!
Again, check the adapter or check the documentation if the item can take 110v to 220/240v (most can, as this is the industry standard).

Regarding Machu Pichu its better to schedule the trip and get the admission tickets in advance since it can get crowded and there's a limit to how many people get in to the archeological area. A knowlegable travel agent is a good idea.
