On my way home from school, your Tiny Desk popped up in my playlist. Not sure if you will see these comments, but Lizzy I am so proud of the fact that you followed your dream! You are an excellent talent! Your 7th grade English teacher, Mr. Lee
This was a top tier Tiny Desk performance. Love your music and the way you curate everyday life moments in such a beautiful way. Sending you only the best energy ❤ ✨
Hi, Lizzie! I just stumbled upon this Tiny Desk Concert and it's my first time hearing your music. I'm floored. This was an absolutely incredible performance! Your voice sounds so effortless and your songwriting is beautifully unique; great chord voicings and unexpected changes at just the right places! Thanks so much for doing what you do! Looking forward to diving into your catalog of music after this! 🙌
Not only was this video an introduction to your music for me, it quickly became both one of my favorite and one of my most viewed Tiny Desk performances. Keep doing what you're doing, you are making our days a bit brighter. Now get to work on your next album already!!!
NPR, your sound engineer is amazing. All credit to the artists, but these tiny desk concerts are immortalized by the sound engineer. Josh Rogosin, your talent is boundless.
This! I'm an engineer myself, and these concerts (especially because of the environment, closeness of performers, etc.) are just the gold standard. Fantastic recording, mixing, blend, tone, everything.
When she says “Mom is gone for work again, the baby sitter feeds us.” in Emma. The “mom” is one of the most beautiful lyrics i’ve ever heard. Her voice is piercing and effortless.
Emma is one of the best unreleased songs i’ve heard in a very, very long time. I only hope that if she releases it she releases it in the same raw and emotional form.
I LOVED THAT PART SO MUCH!! Hearing each of them individually was just as important as hearing them as a group. God it was SO GOOD! They’re so unique but they fit together SO WELL and it gives me such a huge appreciation for each and every one of them.
There's always folks complaining about the state of music "today". But with artists like these four, I'm pretty sure it's in good hands! Really amazing stuff.
IKR! Its all about the music you choose to listen to, not the music that is popular. All genres and music styles will continue to exist forever, you just have to focus on what you like :)
I really don't understand what people even have to complain about. Lizzy is perhaps the tip of the spear, but all of the biggest acts right now, Blllie Eilish, Dua Lipa, even Taylor Swift, they're all making these lovely multifaceted pop songs!
One of the most stunning vocal performances I have ever heard. These four voices...you can feel their breath. Such life. Why don't record producers stop over-producing. Tiny Desk has outdone things once again. I am listening to it again an am still wiping tears.
Judging by this, she has a lot of the same powers as Elliott Smith, which I don’t say lightly (he’s my favorite artist of all time). I can’t wait to do a nice deep dive on her catalogue.
@@77livelove I really want to like her, and lyrically I don’t think she’s far off, but I just don’t really enjoy the music itself. Which is so much of what I love about Elliott.
@@JustPlaneStupid69 we are the same person apparently Pat James. Elliott is my favorite of all time and I feel the same about Phoebe-I wanna like her and I do like her lyrics, but can’t get into the music much.
@@JustPlaneStupid69way too high of praise, in my opinion. For one, as you know, Elliott Smith was an outstanding acoustic guitarist and this young lady seems competent, at best. This seems - with its fine harmonies - more akin to what The Staves used to do before they largely stopped doing the folky guitar with harmonies stuff (unfortunately for me because I liked it!).
Tiny Habits announced to be supporting act for Lizzy’s European tour this year! So happy to face the opportunity to hear and watch them together comparable to rhis 🌻
Sometimes I think about the fact that a desk in a office building somewhere in the US (I'm from Denmark and I don't know where NPR is located) is one of the most honorable places a artist can get to perform these days. Not opera halls or stadiums but a desk in a office. What a world.
I love the choice to stick to just a guitar and vocals. It created a new essence to these songs, those harmonies were absolutely gorgeous from Tiny Habits, and that unreleased song for her sister is beautiful. Beautiful work ❤
Lizzy legit has one of THE BEST voices I’ve ever heard, AND she is a thoughtful writer and composer. Every song is meaningful, interesting, clever, and so, so emotional. I’ve loved her since I first heard her sing on UA-cam! So happy to see her getting recognition.
Just woke up in the middle of the night to put my sleeping babies in their room and I get a Tiny Desk notification to check out Lizzy McAlpine. I've never heard of her in my life, but she will now be in my musical rotation. She and her band are so incredibly gifted, vocals are beyond!! Such an easy listen, and very beautifully composed and performed.⭐️🤯

Lizzy’s tone is like a warm blanket that I just want to wrap myself in until the end of time. Tiny Habits got those cluster chord harmonies on point…like Imogen Heap without the computers, lol. And, I haven’t shed tears in a long time…until my dude took the lead on “weird”. Amazing. Flawless execution by all.

Thank you tiny desk for continuing to be something i look forward to in my life
I'm 64, raised on prog rock, jazz fusion and classic rock and I think this girl is amazing. Love her voice and talent as a writer and arranger. Her music is mesmerizing and beautiful.
I’ve watched a lot of these…..a lot of these…..and I’ve never been gripped by a Tiny Desk as much as this one. And it’s just 4 singers and an acoustic guitar. I’m speechless.
Emma really touched my heart my sister was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and it's been hard watching her change over the years and not get the help she needs. Your song reminded me of simpler times when we were young! Thank you for such a beautiful song!
Wow from a musician standpoint I’m always impressed when chords I’ve heard before alot can be re arranged and delivered with such passion tone and harmonic dissonance and resolve that I feel like it’s fresh. That’s a good songwriter and arranger right there. Lovely lyrics too.
"Emma" has one of the most beautiful melodies i've ever heard. I don't say this lightly, but I think Paul McCartney would be so friggin' proud to see someone create such a textured soundscape through melody modulation. Gorgeous.
The harmonizing in this entire video made me think of Crosby Stills and Nash. The timing and the way all of their voices come together is something I haven't heard in a long time and it's extremely rare. It was so beautiful and something that I think is a lost art. To have 3 or 4 people completely in sync vocally, with just a guitar, really shows the talent level and speaks to my soul.
I keep coming back to this. Something tells me that so much of this hasn’t been meddled with by a big label producer… it’s so completely pure. The background vox remind me of old records from the 40’s. This is so classy.
The fact that I've been listening to her nonstop this week and the previous one too... and since I've known she was coming here I have been checking NPR every day... I liiive for sad songs and beautiful voices
Just continually blown away by Lizzy. I can’t recall how I first found her, I think it was Spotify. Her songs are so well crafted, her voice and control of it a joy to listen too, seems to take huge pleasure from her work and each time I hear a performance there’s some new nuance that takes it somewhere new. The harmonies on this are so tastefully done…I was expecting most lines to be harmonised, but it’s all just in the right place to enhance. Floored.
The level of synchronicity of the voices in the song "weird" is absolutely astonishing. The only band I have ever heard that comes straight to mind for that level of unity of the vocals is the Beatles. I'm honestly thinking that if those musicians would merge their musical projects they could be massive. They really have something very special the 4 of them together. Once you realize that, it's just an ego management game (easier said than done ^^). Another gift from NPR tiny desk.
Her voice has a nostalgic element to it. It makes me think of simpler times. I dont know if you’ll ever see this, Lizzy, but you remind me of the version of myself I always dreamed I’d be. Thanks for being you.

I am shocked how well this choir compliments "ceilings". Lizzys voice is A+ for this, but the choir, for me, make and break the heart of the song.
