- Join us in this video for a weekend of campervanning. Our first stopover is in Calver, Derbyshire for a walk along the banks of the River Derwent and sampling the hospitality at The Eyre Arms. The following day, after a good breakfast at the local cafe, we head off to Staffordshire. We take a walk to admire the views from Ramshaw Rocks and enjoy the evening at our next stopover - The Winking Man.
Many thanks for watching!

Fantastic way to spend a weekend...2 pubs, 2 Walks...hard to beat that.
It was a cracking weekend Steve! Only short walks, but both enjoyable👍
Hello, dearest Maria and Des! Well, I must say that you had a fantastic weekend! A wonderful gateway to discover these two fantastic natural areas full of charm and beauty.
There is nothing better than a weekend in nature to recharge and feel better! And...why not treat yourself to a few stops in delicious pubs where you can refresh yourself?
Thank you as always for joining you and letting me spend a few relaxing minutes with your companions admiring new splendid scenery.
Can you believe we're close to Christmas? Time really passes too quickly...A big hug from Milan and my like for you! Renata
Hello Renata! Sorry for the slow reply. We do enjoy pub stopovers in the winter. There are some lovely country pubs in the area, and they are often a bit quieter at this time of year 😁
Yes, Christmas is nearly here already! So season's greetings to you and yours! Hope you have a wonderful time👍☺
@@DesGreene Dont worry at all, Des!! Time is never enough....
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and blessed Christmas time, my friend!! Ciao!
A nice low lever walk that Mrs Metalman would have approved of and two pubs, something that I would have approved off and with an outdoor shop and a nice breakfast, I would have been more than happy. Looked a good second day walk and a cold but very clear day and a nice meal in the pub to finish off with, very nice indeed, cheers Alan
Hi Alan. Yes, even day 2 walk was "other half friendly" 😁 All in all, a cracking weekend and nice to get a bit of sun!
Really appreciate you watching! Catch you soon👍
Hello Des and Maria, what a great couple days with some beautiful hikes and some fun pub stop offs. It’s always nice to get away for a few days. Be safe, Bill and DeAnna
Hi Bill & DeAnna. We had a lovely weekend. It was cold out, but nice and cosy in the van (and the pubs! 😁) Hope you are both keeping well! Catch you soon👍☺
Such a lovely way to get out and about and enjoy the sights. Looks like you were able to enjoy some great weather along the way too! Bruce and Otis
Hi Bruce. We had a great weekend! Just starting to get ready for another weekend away, but it looks like we are in for rain this time 🙁
Hope you and Otis are both well. Cheers for watching and see you soon! 👍☺
A perfect little getaway. The pub looked lovely and cosy.
Hi Rachel. It was a great weekend. Cold, but the van gets nice and cosy...and the pubs of course!👍😁
Hi both, nice to get out again in the campervan and to get walks in. Calver looks so lovely as you walked along the river Derwent . The Ramshaw Rocks area looked great with some beautiful views and loved the look of the food and fire at the Winking Man. Seemed like a fabulous weekend 🙂👍~ Anna
Hello Anna. Sorry for the slow reply! We had a lovely weekend in two great areas of the Peak District. Doesn't look like we will be as lucky for sunshine this weekend! 🙁 All the best & take care👍☺
Hi Des and Maria! Fun to get out in your van, even when it’s a bit cold! Nice to have a hot dinner and hot breakfast at the pubs. Enjoyed seeing the Winking Man rock formation - great name for it and the Pub!! 👌👍👍 Cheers, Jen
Hi Jennifer. Yes, a very enjoyable weekend. It's hard to beat those crisp but sunny winter walks, and always nice and cosy back in the van!
All the best & see you soon👍
Wonderful sharing. I enjoyed watching. Great video 🦇 👍
Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful festive season!👍☺
Hi Des and Maria, loved this, two walks for the price of one! 😄 Nice little riverside walk at Calver, and better still at Ramshaw Rocks the next day. Always love waiting to see what beer you drink at the end of your walks too 🍻 Love that Winking Man pub. A great couple of walks then. All the best 👍
Hi Patrick. Apologies for the slow reply! Only a couple of short walks so thought I'd tag them together 😁 It was a lovely weekend, and great to get a bit of sun!
Hope you are keeping well. All the best and catch you soon👍
A nice couple of days away Des👍.
A walk, fabulous scenery, few pints🍻 and not too far to travel.
We enjoyed your mooching about 😉
Glad you enjoyed it Bob. We had a great weekend. Saw plenty of cycling groups out. Have you ever done that route from Leek to Buxton? Must be a tough one!
A great couple of hikes there, Des. Ramshaw Rocks is a nice little Ethel with great views. Coming from Stafford, this is the first 'peak' I come to. Well, that and the Roaches & Hen Cloud. It's a great place to hike. Thanks for sharing, Des.
Hi Chris. Yes, a couple of nice short walks...and great to get a bit of sunshine for a change! I do like Ramshaw Rocks, as it's often a bit quieter than the Roaches👍
Peaceful down by the river! I like kingfishers as well! On the other hand, the water does makes quite a bit of noise!
A cup of tea sounds good after a walk on a cold day!
Fun trip with the camper van! It looked rather cold...
Have a great almost weekend!
Kaat
Hi Kaat. Sorry for the slow reply! It was a nice weekend, but a bit cold and the kingfishers all managed to avoid us! 😁
Hope you are keeping well. All the best and catch you soon👍
Excellent
Thanks Dave👍☺
Des & Maria, great to see another video of your treks. Windshields looked a bit frosty. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it Dan. We had a great weekend. A bit cold, but lovely for walking!👍
Lovely folks, some would call it a pub crawl but what a great weekend. Take care and stay safe.
We did show some restraint David! At least three more pubs withing walking distance of our first stopover, and we didn't go in 😁
Cheers for watching! You take care also👍
Looked a lovely few days Des Maria and yourself picked a fine few day 🤠🙏🏼☀️
All the best
Simon
Hi Simon. Yes, lovely to get a bit of sunshine for a change, and nice to have the mud frozen up too! 😁
All the best to you and yours also👍☺
The weather seems similar to Vancouver. Quite handy to have the cafe nearby to keep you warm a bit before or after the hike. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year in a couple of days! 👍
Hi Cerita! I wish we could have those cold sunny days back now. We seem to be having constant rain now! 😁☔ Hope you are keeping well and had a great Holiday season and New Year👍☺
Hi sir..lovely late autumn early Winter walk. A cold crisp day its the best to get the big fleeces and winter coat on and take a flask of tea and just go for a walk. Driving rain and snow is a totally different matter lol. That van is just brilliant. You are really lucky to have that accommodation on wheels. Been to Bakewell years ago and it was heaving then as well. I do remember standing in a queue outside the famous Bakewell tart shop for one of their finest lol. Its a lovely part of the world. Speak soon sir. Happy hiking as always 👍😃👍🥾🥾🎒🥃🥃
Hi Scott. It was a great weekend, and very nice to see a bit of sun after all the rain! Bakewell is really popular, so always crowded!
Many thanks for watching & catch you soon👍☺
Looks like a great weekend but DANG, if it's so cold that the GoPro keeps going off it's just to darn cold LOL!! It did look nice during the day, and dry!
Ha ha...I don't think Gopros appreciate cold weather, after all the rain we've had, we were just happy to see the sun! 😂
All the best & catch you soon👍
Nice one Des and Maria - looked perfect! Not to mention the Moonshine and the Black Sheep.
And can’t beat those bracing walks.
We haven’t braved a pub stop yet.
Sue’s brother swears by em too. We have a couple of stop overs booked - my home town Brighton next week and the Lakes in January with family. Just wish time wouldn’t move so fast!!
Hi Dave. It was a cracking weekend! I was scanning the car parks wondering how I'd cope in a 7.5m motorhome! Eyre Arms, maybe not, but The Winking Man perfect! 😁👍 Did you see those huge 4x4 camping units to the right of where we parked? Massive things!
Cheers for watching! Hope those trips go well👍
@@DesGreene crazy mate. I’ve seen them at shows! Now they’re big! 😃😃
Hey, des good to hear you and see you back out again mate. So, good to hear of the Lamprey - we need them streams. Well, no kingfisher - | always find it's easier to listen out for them - locate the sound and there they are. Some good pub stops here but I enjoyed seeing you both out on the moors. Looked really nice with the light. Well, good going. All the best as always. Mark
Cheers Mark! Yes, lampreys are fascinating creatures, but sounds like they need very clean water. A rarity even in the countryside these days 🙁 In winter with the rivers being in flood, I reckon kingfishers have easier fishing on the canals and ponds. Always seem to see them on winter canal walks!
All the best and take care mate👍
@@DesGreene They are des I agree - yeah that water has all-sorts being put into it. Yeah, they fly over land to them places and further afield. It's no small wonder you see them on canals. I will take care - you too.
Amazing scenery out there des and very good clear weather but yes, that makes it cold. Do you have the white batteries for the GoPro? Those do better in the cold than the blue but youre probably using those. Nice rock formation up there. Great walk. ❤coffee sounds great
Hi Nicole. It was a lovely weekend! I have a black gopro battery, and some 3rd party ones (which do seem a little better in the cold). I hadn't heard of the white ones...thanks for the tip!👍☺
Evening Des, I thought I saw you today 4/12/23 in your camper in Sheffield on Infermary road heading toward city center, you came up a side street near Aldi and turned left on to Infermary road. I did wave. Was it you? I enjoy your videos. Hope your both well!
Hi Alec. Can't have been me....some other handsome beggar out there obviously! 😂 We're both fine thanks. Hope you are also!
@@DesGreene you have a double then! Enjoy your evening.
