Oh, Hans. Thanks so much for not giving up and and for doing this so I don't have to. I almost gave up, too, when I did my flour wheat beer and I was going to throw it all away but walked away for a while, came back and it had given the starches time to loosen up.
Amazingly clear, wasn't it! Thanks.
Yes I remember that video. This could have been you 🤣
A bit late to this, but I was just thinking yesterday about pasta in the mash and UA-cam read my mind and recommended this! Great experiment!
Don't try it 😂
This is awesome! Great experiment and really interesting results!
Cool, glad you liked it!
Excellent little test, glad you took one for the team like a man😉
Never doing it again. Brewing with pasta that is. Taking one for the team I will continue with and other stupid brewing ideas.
Intresting experiment! I was also wondering if it was possible brewing with pasta. I would have used raw crushed pasta or small formats directly in the mash with the grains. Good idea the double high 'n' low fermenting yeasts combo. I remember the mess i made after having hand-squeezed with towels fermenting apple pulp to make 30 or so liters of cider, the mess and exploding bottles!
Glad you liked it!
I’m not sure this is the mistake you’re talking about but gnocchi as far as I know is made from potatoes and not grain. I just thought it was weird to have it in the mix.
This was not like real gnocchi. It was just the same like all of the other pasta. But you're right real gnocchi in my book should have potatoes in them also. But these didn't. The mistake I was taking about is a bit further ahead in the video. Cheers!
Love the craziness of this!, cheers Dr
Yes me to, never doing it again though. But other madness coming up of course. Cheers!
Great stuff Doc really found this a entertaining video. I doubt I will be brewing with Pasta any time soon but nettles maybe.
My great grandmother brewed nettle beer and lived to 97 years so it can’t be that bad.
Waiting for the elder flowers to come out then I can brew a Elderflower summer Ale with Cascade hops.
That sounds way better than to brew with pasta!
DrHans Brewery Brewing this Friday and using Hibiscus flowers in the brew with a hibiscus tea added to the second dry hop. Should be interesting to say the least. Got the idea from a professional brewer I met in South Africa. I can assure you mine will not be as good as his!
@@Dts1953 sounds like an interesting brew.
Hi mate, you just made me feel much better now after my last night nightmare brew day :D funny it was wheat beer as well. Ended up even fixing my plumbing nearly at midnight. But beer is in Fermentosaurus already now and fermenting after 6 hrs :)
Great to hear. Cheers!
Crazy, crazy, crazy guy! I will never do this. Fun to watch you doing it though. 😂
Did you use egg based pasta? Will be a lot of proteins then?
Håvar Fjerdingen Hahaha please don’t try it. No there where no eggs in the pasta.
Wonder if it would have been tht gooey and gelatinous if you didn't use a potato based pasta like gnocchi?
Yes it would cause the Gnocci I used isn´t the real thing. it has no potatoes in it.
The pain was noticeable during the mash, LOL! At least you got a decent beer mate, nice exbeeriment :)
Yes it was painfull!
Hahahaha! I showed you my cream ale brewed with rice. I decided to try corn with it too and never gonna use raw corn!!! Everything is an experience! And plus points always!!
We learn from our mistakes. Cheers!
Amazing what you got from the brewday from hell but think you had an angel watching over you out in the back in the trees at 28:03 WOW. Would be interesting to see how you hop for a no chill beer. My next brewday i was gonna only put hops in at flameout as i think not getting the real taste lately. Cheers Dr
No chill is all about late hopping. Will do a video on it someday. Cheers!
Wonder if you'd added the pasta mush, to the top of your mash(after you'd mashed in), and did not stir if you'd have a had much different result?
Don't think so. I think the pasta would have acted as a natural lid if not stored in. But well never know cause I'm not doing it again 🤣🍻
@@DrHansBrewery Understand that! Great concept though, glad you struggled thru it for all of us. Cheers!
@@mrdespizeme I was so close to give up several times during this. Cheers!
May be worth grinding pasta, with a the grains and maybe mash for longer?
Maybe grinding would have helped we never know. Cause I'm not doing it again 🤣. I did mash this for quite a long time though doing several of mash steps.
@@DrHansBrewery agree, it's basically the same as chucking 2kg of flour into your mash tun
@@DrHansBrewery what if you tried 10% just to experiment? maybe doing a 1-2 gallon batch perhaps?
@@gangaskan2255 That would probably work fine. But 10% isn't much of an experiment. Don't want to be a coward 🤣🍻
Ha ha ha...love this, thanx for entertaining us and the end result looked quite okay!! I really would have liked to taste this one to see if you could distinguish anything from the pasta! I'm not a big fan of the lalleman munich yeast och for ales not so much wheat beer character in it. Anyway keep up your good work Doc! Cheers 😛👍🍺
Thanks glad you liked it. I know you have been waiting for this one. I on th other hand really like the Lallemand Munich for its clean "wheat beer" character.
I had a challenging brew day like that when I used over 40% malted oats in a recipe
Then you know how I felt. That brew day took like 12hours. To the end of the boil. Madness!
loved the video
Thanks, cheers!
I take your word for it and never try this at home. Cheers
Great, it shouldn't be done :D Cheers!
I liked the video... however I feel like it would have really helped you if you would have soaked the pasta and rice in cold water to release the starches first before boiling. It would have helped you In the long run. Hope my advice helps 😃 cheers 🍻
Thanks for the tip! I will never ever brew with pasta though. Rice though I can do again. Have done that twice.
Using the food processor was the huge mistake? You could have crushed the pasta into smaller pieces while uncooked and don't create the goo in your mash I think.
Maybe, it couldn't get worse than this brewday at least.
Yep I'd have just put the dry pasta through the grain mill 😊
Is the error not draining the pasta water?
Nope.Try again!
Next time you should ground the pasta first and not over boil it, cuz pasta it’s pretty starchy and you don’t want that in the beer, try also to lower the temperature when you hidrate the pasta
That might be smarter. Can't see myself doing it again though after that brew day from hell.
Was the mistake when you said, "Lallemand Munich wheat beer yeast - two packs," but one of them was Windsor?
Well spotted! Never noticed until editing.
2 different yeast. Although, a nice hybrid of ale and lager yeast is a good future video idea.
Yes, thanks for your suggestion. That's a good idea!
@@DrHansBrewery I'm brewing one this week. Ferment with 05 until half way, then ferment out with 820(lager). Thinking an American Amber?
Thank you so much for doing this so I don't have to. Please do some breakfast cereal brewing next. I did a sugar puff ale once. Tasted like piss for a few months but then was eventually a decent honey flavoured wit.
Hahahaha youre welcome. Thats actually on my list!
The mistake is the water was boiling instead of being in the 70degC range 😂
🤣 nope
15:00 we gonna need some water😂
It was crazy 🤣
Absolute madness, I promise I will never try this at home. Maybe try cous cous next time? 😂
Hahaha sounds like a plan. 🤣
can you brew a beer with kveik yeast?
Yes I can and I've done it.

@@DrHansBrewery thanks your awesome love the channel!
@@colethompson6620 Thank you, cheers!
Thought I was drunk a couple times there with the fish eye.
Yes, noticed my self after upload that two clips at least where a bit weird. Sorry about that. The mash wasnt the only thing that vent wrong with this one. I had a project crash during editing this episode and had to make it. all over. So there were some real trolls in all of the production of this episode. Cheers!
@@DrHansBrewery well, it did feel appropriate for the subject. Lol
@@Questionable_Talent yes totally!
Make beer with pretzels. Then eat pretzels with that beer.
Speaking of this, how is this beer along side a plate of pasta?
Pretzel beer sounds like fun!
I think it would fit well with a pasta dish!
Error: You had two different yeasts. One Munich and one Windsor.
Yes, well spotted!
Error? Mixed yeast makes strong cakes :)
you put rice hull in before crushing?
and you put even more rice hull
No just once in the kettle.
I think that's a good thing, he probably would have got a stuck sparge
@@mitchellfite879 This was my most sticky mash so far.
2 errors actually. 1. not salting the pasta water, what would the Italians say??? 2. Yea obviosly the two different yeasts.
Hahaha hahaha yes the best one so far. Yes I forgot to salt the pasta water 🤣😁 my thing though was the the Windsor yeast.
DrHans Brewery next challenge. Use yellow peas to make a beer and the classic ärtsoppa using the same ingredients. A nice ”bordspilsner” to acompany the soup.
@@Hannes_Lind Hahahahaa don´t know if im ready for that just yet!

If there wasn't a piss taking amount of adverts a would of watched this video
Sorry, its just set on auto.
Gnocchi.... well thats not gnocchi its conchigli. Gnocchi is nuggets of potato and pasta paste about 50/50. Sorry😂
Yes I agree!
You forgot to add salt, you shuld always add salt in pasta cooking wather hahahahahahah
Puharniške novice hahaha yes maybe a gose would be better than!
Do I get a prize for noticing you put in one packet of Munich and one of Windsor ?
Well spotted, no prizes this time, sorry! Cheers!
Noted.....Never ever will i use pasta haha
Great, no one should!
The mistake was you forgot to add any hops
Nope. Hops where actually added. But well spotted. I lost the footage of me doing that. 50g Mandarina Bavaria was added at flame out. The mistake is a bit further in in the video. Cheers!
How was your brew day Hans? 🤭 Wanna try again without going ragnarok with ur braun stavblender? 🤪 Skål 🍺😎🚬
Worst brewday ever. Never doing it again with or without the blender.
Try using flour next.
That's like begging for trouble. Sounds like fun 🤣
www.themadfermentationist.com/2015/07/apricots-lactobacillus-and-hops.html?m=1
Going to try this the next brew day.
Bra video!
Nice experiment! But you used a pack of Munich yeast and one of Windsor, not two of Munich... Perhaps breaking pasta before cooking it could be a good idea instead of using the immersion blender. But, of course, never brew with pasta!
Yes never brew with pasta. Yes I didn't notice that mistake until I edited the video. Maybe breaking the pasta is better but I will never find out cause I'm never ever gonna brew with pasta again 🤣🍻
dude that looks gross
Yes it sure did!
Error: You had two different yeasts. One Munich and one Windsor.
Yes!
@@DrHansBrewery I once (!) made a mudcake stout . I put three dried and crushed mudcakes in the mash. It was the sparging from hell. You don't have to try it.
@@andvil01 Thanks I definitely wont 🤣
