I loved Gene Hackman in "The Firm". Such an incredible performance - it made the film for me. He played a jaded, vulnerable, sad character, still hoping for redemption. He played his heart out. I can never think of him without remembering Avery, especially his scenes with Abby.
I was lucky to have met Dustin Hoffman, briefly, years ago in New York. He had just been nominated for “Wag the Dog”, and I wished him good luck. He was very gracious and pleasant.❤
Great actor Gene Hackman still going strong like Clint Eastwood at 94 I consider myself lucky to have been born with these great actors including Robert Duvall.
Nice to see these two together. Friends since 1956, they shared apartments with each other in New York in the sixties while struggling actors. They also roomed with Robert Duvall. All three became great actors.
It was great to finally see these two face off in a film together. I am a big fan of both of their films, and I wish that they could have done more together. Such talented and articulate men, who at one time were both voted "Most likely not to succeed," in their acting class or school.
They want to very good work. What is wrong with being nervous, scared for wanting to succeed with a scene. Wanting to be prepared and satisfied in the end. Bravo you two😀
One if the finest actor's around. Gene's portrayal as Popeye Doyle in the French Connection was superb and flawless he is Popeye Doyle. Gene projects a certain intensity it's magical, it can be compared to somebody attempting to climb Mount Everest no matter what obstacles are thrown in the way they are going to reach the summit. Want to wish Gene a happy long and healthy life.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The nice thing about this video is how Gene Hackman seemed genuinely happy and relaxed when he was with Dustin Hoffman, both on the set and off it. You can see the comfort he felt in working/being interviewed with an old friend vs. being on his own. I've read a lot of interviews with him where he talked about being intrinsically shy (which a lot of actors are) and even the director here said he was a quiet kind of guy, so that tracks.
yep knew them in nyc in the viallage, 1960s...i worked with gene in 1987 in uncommon valor....pro....jack english (actor/location mgr..coppola)weho 2024
Gene Hackman is such a good actor that when I watch I do not think there's Gene Hackman I actually believe in the character my favorite 3 movies with him are this, Enemy of the state & Mississippi burning.
Somewhat interesting video. Notable is that we see D. Hoffman not behaving like a jerk. I guess being around Gino brings him back to humanity. D.H.'s greatest role is still _Midnight Cowboy_ - again, for the humanity.
They needn't had worried. One of the best scenes in the whole movie from two great actors at the top of their game. Often you get heavyweights put together in a film just because of who they are but their scene(s) don't really serve the film, doesn't help move the narrative forward and/or it was executed poorly. Not here. Hoffman and Hackman sold a very engaging scene that held the viewers attention with proper meaty dialogue amidst a sharp philosophical and moral debate.
All the rest is coloured bubbles.. But they're people Fitch. My point exactly. Gene Hackman portrays calculating greed and psychopathic indifference to people.
Arnold ArnoldR Go fuck yourself. Dustin Hoffman is one of the greatest actors of all time. So is gene hackman. Both are tremendous and are legendary exponents of acting
@ I have seen almost all of Gene Hackman's performances and I would rather call him a tad underrated than calling Dustin Hoffman overrated. Both are legendary actors in their own rights
In my mind, Hackman always had a masculine presence on screen. Nothing glamorous about him and yet something possibly irresistible to women. Unfortunately, Hollywood has revealed itself to be the stuff of the most twisted and criminal sewage, stuff that would shock to the bones Satan Himself if He existed, and I want and would like to believe that Gene left that shithole because he could no longer stand the massive stench of it, doing it at a time even before the recent overarching revelations concerning all the sickly sadistic "adrenochrome" crimes committed by major numbers of so many Hollywood monsters that should long ago have been serving time in the most angry and revengeful of Hells.
Gene Hackman, is probably one of the best all round actors, ever.
Hammern28 , agree
100% correct
Absolutely.
Yup. Miss him. His retirement, while well deserved, was/is a loss for us all.
Hackman is such a legend, such a shame he's not talked about much these days.
He's 90. Retired and living in New Mexico last I heard...he earned that. I am thankful he gets that, even at our expense.
@@nevadaracer00V: I didn't realize that he's 90. One of the finest actors to ever live.
@@derekbaker777 and on Januray 30 he'll turn 92
@@nevadaracer00V Well he earned it. Worked hard and is now retired and living the good life. Not bad at all.
Now is 93
There's something emotional about seeing these 2 legends together like this, just sitting and relaxing
It’s kinda sad Gene Hackman’s retired from acting. He is one of my all time favorite actors.
He's 94!!!😮😮😮
OMG Gene is in his 90’s. Amazing he is living 😊
He's one of the all-time greats!
Santa Fe has been good to the man. He is still trucking along….

He stole that movie. “It’s better than the alternative…..” brilliantly heartbreaking

Awesome film! He and De Niro tore it up!
Great actor Gene Hackman still going strong like Clint Eastwood at 94 I consider myself lucky to have been born with these great actors including Robert Duvall.
I wonder if Dustin still sees Gene, he seems very frail these days compared to Clint, Redford, Duvall & Hoffman
Nice to see these two together. Friends since 1956, they shared apartments with each other in New York in the sixties while struggling actors. They also roomed with Robert Duvall. All three became great actors.
One of my fav actors of all time is Mr Gene Hackman.
Two of the best actors of all time. Love this! Thanks for uploading!
gene was one of the greatest natural actors of a bygone era. he could flesh out his characters and make them believable and "real".
My favorite actors. I can't believe that I found this post.
Thanks, FlyingBear.
When you have a well written scene and two old pros at the top of their game still, there is no way you won't capture magic!
if you're an actor, you should be paying attention to this. Great pearls of wisdom relating to craft here.
It was great to finally see these two face off in a film together. I am a big fan of both of their films, and I wish that they could have done more together. Such talented and articulate men, who at one time were both voted "Most likely not to succeed," in their acting class or school.
Shows how school doesn't measure talent. Sometimes there isn't a metric for what will work or won't.
They want to very good work. What is wrong with being nervous, scared for wanting to succeed with a scene. Wanting to be prepared and satisfied in the end. Bravo you two😀
They have zero entitlement which shows in their work and the respect they have from the fans.
Two amazing talents!!
I will miss these two great actors.. Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman.. 😍
RIP 😢

The Class of 1930; Steve McQueen , Gene Hackman ,Clint Eastwood,Richard Harris,Connery Sean Connery !!!
Gene Hackman is my favourite actor
"Good actors make you remember their other roles, and great actors make you forget them" ~~ unknown
Mr. Hackman is a national treasure!
Gene Hackman Friendship Calls Out Dusty,To Hoffman, Robert Duvall, To Bobby. Pals For Life.

This is great stuff!
love it
Just noticed Gene Hackman was the reason why I watched the old Superman.
Gotta have balls to direct these two.
Unreal how their acting teacher told them they'd never make it.
Jean Hackman’s normal speaking voice is quite different to his performance voice which is quite strident
Interesting! At 12:41 Gene Hackman says the word "knackered", a quintessentially British word to describe being exhausted.
Fine actors.
Both of them are great !
But I love more Gene!
They use to be roommates way back in the day.
BHAHAHA when gene interjects Dustins annoyed face at 3:38.
I fell in love with Gene in French Connection even though I was in highschool...... are you available????
What movie?
Runaway Jury
would be great if Gene Hackman did more comedy movies, he was great in Heartbreakers (2001)
Check out The Royal Tenenbaums
@@crispychip360 Oh, great. Thank you for the recommendation. I will look for it.

Gene is always the lonely Monk in Young Frankenstein to me. Looks like he's in need of an espresso!!
Best actors : Hackman, Hoffman, Nicholson; maybe Freeman...sometimes Kevin Costner.
Pacino
Denzel, jeff bridges would work too.
Skilled people doing their thing, if it even is the simplest of things. APPR THAT! Would YOU do that job? Nobyou woudn't.
Such cuties!!!
Dustin hoffman is maybe considered over rated... but take a look at "Little Big Man" again.
Hes a fantastic actor. Check out the movie marathon man and you'll see why. Not to mention midnight cowboy, rain man, tootsy.
Yes, hes great in little big man too.
Gene is terrifying, Dustin's a pain.
All the rest is coloured bubbles..
But they're people Fitch.

Gene Hackman portrays calculating greed and psychopathic indifference to people.
What...they almost NOT have ANY scene together...?? 😮
Haven't read the book... So, do the two characters supposed to never meet in the story?

You Gotta Be Joking Right
@ You are right. Gene´s performance in Mississippi Burning is grandios.
Too bad the movie is below mediocre.
The move was excellent!
