- 1960 Peterbilt 281, Burbank California January, 2005.
This is the 1960 Peterbilt 281 that is known as the "Surviving Duel Truck." This truck has appeared in multiple places, the 1994 music video for David Lee Roth's song "She's My Machine," the 1994 movie "New Nightmare," a commercial for the Chevrolet Malibu, and the 2004 movie "Torque." It has also appeared in a Motor Trend magazine, as well as Ten Four Magazine. While this truck is known as the surviving Duel truck there is currently no documentation to link this truck to the production of the movie.
Advice for neighbors. Don't buy a Plymouth Valiant, especially orange. 😂😂😂
Times have changed alot buddy.
Go ahead everyone and buy a orange Dodge Challenger Hellcat or Demon and I damn guarantee that truck driver will think twice!!!!!
If you have a Valiant make sure it’s a hemi and not a slant six.
Just hope when you see this truck that you don't have a psychotic lunatic driving it. Though fun fact is the truck driver in Duel was also the film's stunt coordinator Gary Loftin.
Took the words out of my mouth
@@ratscoot But those Slant Six's ran forever.
For the rare person that would know what that truck is - can you imagine seeing that in your rearview mirror and just having a complete "oh fuck" reaction?
Seeing that pull out of the driveway gave me chills!!!
l0l id like to see him back it in. pretty good driver id say eh
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! And the fact, that the Peterbilt still exists, is soo amazing!!! ...
For the movie, they had two of those trucks, one got destroyed an other was maybe taken to junkyard. People just find other trucks like it an made it look like the duel truck.
Actually one Peterbilt still exist, it’s owned by a guy in North Carolina.

@@Chevyguy2010 Actually the one you see is one of the survival trucks from the recordings, and the other one is with a different person, they're making a recreation of Duel 1971, One of them got destroyed for the driving off a cliff scene.
Is the double truck... :O)
Love the sound of this truck.
Thèse used for the film ???
Love the sound of this truck too
Are you serious? I would never ride a vehicle with a mind of its own
Me toi
Che spettacolo…!!!
Absolutely love it! The most badass vehicle on the road, no doubt.
THAT'S RIGHT, YOU CAN'T CATCH A SLANT SIX !!!
Should be in one of those horror movies.
And the creepiest too
One of the most badass
The guy who parked it there is a hero.
My exact thoughts... I live about 10 mins from Burbank and I was amazed that it was roaming around up there... crowded and small...
I drove for 21 years...and at the start of the video...my brain said...how the hell did he get that thing in the driveway?????
Nah, that trailer is pretty short. I bet it doesn’t have power steering, that’s the challenge.
@@blauer2551 No power steering and I guess double clutch technique is required to change gears.
@@raulerrman.5401 might even have two sticks
WOW! Awesome machine. Much respect. I can't believe people would dare overtake it.
Cos they never saw the movie lol
Even after 48 years, if you saw this truck behind you, you would automatically get scared :-) When I saw Duel in 1971 as a kid, every 18 wheeler that got behind our car on the highway reminded me of how this truck TERRORIZED Dennis Weaver!
Saw it as a kid, too...I was 11. I remember the ad for it in TV Guide: “10 tons of rolling death!”
Df
Is this the same truck that was used in duel
@TheUA-camManMrHam really? It's not the one that drove off a cliff and was destroyed? I'm surprised
@@joelaw728They actually used two identical trucks for the movie, only one was destroyed
For those that care to know, a man named Carrey Loftin Was the driver of the Duel truck in the movie. He was also the driver for George C. Scott's character in the movie "Patton".
I care to know, but don't be offended, the title credits for Duel show him as Gary, not Carrey. I will look out for him in Patton....maybe this time you see his face?
@@tonywolton yes, if you watch the movie Patton, he's actually Gen. Bradley's (Carl Mauldin) driver.
His name was spelt Carey, but Duel mistakenly spelt it Cary. Loftin had some sort of involvement somehow in a ton of films, including, It's a Mad, Mad Mad Mad World, Smokey and the Bandit, Stroker Ace and so many others that it would take hours to write them all down.
Thank you!
I know that!
gorgeous truck! Its a rolling legend! Listen to the sound!
I remember seeing Duel when I was like 12, scared the shit out of me. I still love that movie, one of the most suspenseful movies ever, like Jaws, of course there are similarities? Haha😂
Still see that damn truck in my dreams sometimes. It would be creepy as heck seeing that Peterbilt in the rear-view mirror.
Love the fan on the dash which can be seen spinning at the end of the film off the cliff
spoil alert
That's not the original with the plates on the front, a guy who purchases old trucks bought it, not the same one.
When I first saw that movie I was like 13 scared the hell out of me
Me to. I was 11, still get scared when I see a hairy arm hanging out a semi window. lol
I saw this when I was 3 and my dumbfounded drunk mom says this is good for you Now Watch it bitch yes this is all true
Absoloutly!I was borrn 1971 when steven Spielberg had his first Diriction with this Movie.
I saw this Film in the Plain from our Flight with my Mother back from Thailand to Germany 1980.
So I was 9 Years old.In thease days,it would'ed be a little "Ileagal too let watsch a kid this Movie.
But in a Plain, how you can separate kids if an adult Movie is showing.
Anyway, I had no Nightmares, and I still find this Movie amazing great!!!
Learned in the 1950s on a 5 and 4, you handle the shifter like an expert. Great job.
Knows how to do ,er
Awesome. I can only imagine going for a ride in that truck, wish I could add it to my bucket list but it could never happen. Nice to see it has been kept in all its glory, after so many years.
I would be a nervous wreck if this was behind me!!!
If i were the driver and this pulled up behind at a red light at soon as it hits green im gone
If I was driving this and I saw a red Plymouth valiant
I’d run the guy down
If anybody knows of something cooler on wheels than this, please let me know.
Please Remove the ugly mirror on the hood.
Wow! That is my all-time favorite movie vehicle! I can't believe it actually exists!
OMG, how did you manage to park in the house ???
It's one of my favourite films, it's an ageless classic.
0:02 Min.: Love how the can went flying from the exhaust on the start of the engine ...
One time I bought an old rat Ford tanker straight truck, Brought batteries and popped it off. A bird nest flew out like that! It was Spring and there were baby birds on the ground after that! Another time, I was driving a GMC tandem dump truck that I hadn't used in a while. On an asphalt job at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. There was a hornet nest under there somewhere and apparently when I left, the bees stayed on it. Got to the jobsite, and they started harassing the workers there! They blamed it on me, since they could see them around the truck body!
The movie Duel shows that you dont need the paranormal to scare you, you just need a psycho with a serious case of road rage in a big truck
Imagine seeing that next to you lol
I'd floor it
Next to you would be better than behind you !
@@galeaiken3841 Just like in the movie.
Twin sticks? Power steering? Looks like no. Not many folks around who will be able to drive this. 😁
A very cool truck still to this day.
For a Truck that's 60 years old
Double clutch technique is required i guess.
yea i herd they where not easy trucks to drive
Pretty much with all the candy asses coming out of schools with their automatics... You either double clutched, or learned to shift without the clutch as I did for 25 years.
I could drive it. Itd take me a moment to learn the twin stick but i could (coming from a kid who drives an f700 during hay season
Last two stick I had was a B61Mack. 5x4. Just pray you never missed a gear going up a 12%hill. Being a chickenshit, I always started in a low enough gear so I wouldn't have to shift. The good ole days.
Imagine you lost the tanker on the highway only to be startled when you open your backdoor to see it parked at the back of your house & as soon as you saw it, the engine starts...😱
At 1.48 a red car...do it please!!! 😉🤣👍! I think i'm the only one in Italy loving all American trucks...i saw Duel when i was 6 years old and i was happy because my dad's car was blue but...every travel using highways was a nightmare as a kid 🤓 byeeeee 🍻🇮🇹
Ti sbagli...Tantissimi italiani amano i camion americani !
I NOSTRI Duel... 😆😆😆
We need a sociopath to buy this truck and go on a Homicidal Interstate Murder Spree!! Bring the movie to life!!
He needs a red 1972 Plymouth valiant to chase around.
Imagine walking past the house at night and the truck lights come on...
... veeeery well, I'm just getting the f*** out of here!!
When the current owner passes, this beauty must be preserved in the National Auto and Truck Museum! I’ve always loved the 281’s and the movie made it more famous!
“RexCars1” owned this truck some 12 years back. He explained that the truck originally had a Cummins 262, that engine blew up during a music video and was replaced with a Small Cam 350 hp Cummins. George Sacks (Jack Knife King) was the original owner/ builder. Truck is currently at Brad Wike’s in NC
Same than Christine. He's back😮
This is one of the best thriller films ever made, good verses evil, 1971 based off of a short magazine article about road rage.
this brings back great memories of a classic movie. sometimes never seeing what is after you is twice as scary. nothing beats the fear of the unknown. there certainly was a great amount of awesome movies in the late 60'-the early 70's.this being the perfect example. it was a great time to be a movie fan. this was excellent.
Where the hell did u get that beautiful truck from It was smash in the movie
Being anywhere near in front of that truck is viscerally frightening
Awesome truck, that engine sounds amazing
Belo conjunto, sensacional!!!!
Ok, the front view is absolutely menacing. I would be a teensi tiny bit nervous to stand in front of that truck =D
Damn....finally a proper video for my miniature!!!!!! LOVING IT!!!!!
i saw that rig go off a cliff, so if i saw it in my rear view mirror, i would crap my pantaloons.
Espetáculo de caminhão!!!!
Cars have no souls, but this car eats souls
Very nice movie. Mi like Duel Monster 1971. 💓😀😀😀
what a monster I love it!
Imagine that you drive around and you see this truck behind your car😂😂😂
This truck from hell💪😈🔥
I remember driving trucks with smoke mirrors and old timers teaching me on what density of smoke to watch for when pulling hills

"Heh heh heh heh..."
imagen seeing your neighbor having that truck right next to his house XD
If it is behind any car and he has seen that movie....he would be afraid !!
the can flying out of the exhaust had me rolling
legendary truck from duel.my favorite movie, but bi truck in yard near houses haha what neighboors said
Beautiful just the way she is! Thanks a lot for sharing!
I love it. Keep that patina, and keep it on the road!
That thing is still evil looking
where others park a car, he parked the duel truck...
I would love to drive that ole beauty around my town!!! Oh the looks!!! That would be so awesome!!! Love those ole needle nose Pete's!! I liked the can Blowing off the stack at start up as well. I explained to the wife why the mirror was out on the hood like that. Had to watch the flame 🔥 from the stack on those naturally aspirated Cummins. Which do you have in this one? Is it a shiny 290?
no other American truck looks as good as this one and no other sounds as good 👍👍
I love everything about the movie, it's my favorite. I want to drive "it". Wow, what an awesome truck, I love it!!!!!
Maybe good luck trying to drive a manual... I think you will grind gears.
Hhhh Duel oky
The Truck of my dreams! 💗
Me too (same)
At 1:30 I got concerned about the red car!
Ask most men their dream ride and answer will probably be a super car. Me, The Duel Truck.
how the f**k did he park it there????
C'est le camion du film Duel 😮
duel (1971)
Love the states where in the UK could you have a 40 ft truck parked on your driveway and still be able to pull out on the street with parked cars and have room
Brilliant film too remember watching it as a boy
If he has this truck, you can bet one of his buddies has an orange Valiant...
Actually yes, the trucks current owner “Brad Wike” has a red Valiant as well as Snowman’s truck and a Bandit Trans Am. Look him up on the Googles. 🫠
There can only be one tanker truck in the world and if you know what it looks like then it means we are old! 😲
Oh my heart jumps a beat....❤❤
FUCKIN AWSOME MAN 🥰
That movie scared the 💩💩💩 out of me when I was kid
Little bit different than the one they crashed, as that one had a Road Ranger trans with splitter button down the side of shifter, just get a brief glimpse of it after the car flames up on impact, as Cary Loftin is trying to downshift. As I remember from the movie, the crashed truck also had the old clock/time recorder hanging from the dash as well.
DUEL - Truck OMG, what a beauty . My childhood - Hero : ) I like the sound of this badass- engine : ) You must be a proud owner !! Greetings from Germany
WHAT A FCK :O
Naughtiest truck in the world!
So I am just curious but kind of engine does the beast use?
“RexCars1” owned this truck some 12 years back. He explained that the truck originally had a Cummins 262, that engine blew up during a music video and was replaced with a Small Cam 350 hp Cummins. George Sacks (Jack Knife King) was the original owner/ builder.
2:12 car must have scared.
Great work
Cool machine 😎👍
Wowww is an dream beautifull star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟truck
Need the jeepers creepers guy to drive this around. Now that would be scary.
It’s red
At 1:46 a red car appear at the traffic light 😂
Why has it got two gear levers?
Esse caminhão é uma lenda! !!!
