I did Tewwinot in ‘91 with 3 other friends , Jeff, Kevin, and Paulgene. We reached the summit late afternoon and by then were on a tight schedule to make it back to our base camp before dark. So like the 19 year old geniuses we were, decided to descend down the back side as we thought it might be a bit easier. It was my turn to carry the army duffle bag full of our climbing equipment and jackets. We descended in pairs, not that this was necessarily our plan, but I ended up getting seperated from my buddy, Paulgene, and out earshot. When I reached a fairly short but vertical traverse with manyhundreds of feet of exposure, I panicked. I shouted for help but got no answer. I looked everywhere for another possible route but was unable to find one. So After what seemed like an hour of deliberation I decided to abandon the equipment as I felt it would be impossible to make the climb with the added weight of it. Frazzled now I finally mustered enough courage to make the traverse, but It probably took me another hour on the other side to find the others who by then had come back to search for me. The sun was down, everyone was on edge, which is to say emotions were high, but we hardly spoke. By the time We reached what seemed like an infinite glacier it was dark except for moonlight, and we blindly slid down the ice on our Themarests using our heels to self arrest. Eventually we were funnelled into a sort of shallow ravine and were left with no other option but to climb out of it. We had to climb down first and then back up. The other 3 of us were in shock and by now rendered useless, but Jeff took the lead. I remember him going up this face with a plastic flashlight in his mouth And me thinking, there is no way we are going to make this. It was Completely dark and this was by far the most technical climb of the entire day! Then Paulgene fell. Kevin was the only one of us to witness this and he later told me that he had watched Paulgene free fall for at least 20 feet before landing on some rocks below. His knee had been gashed open and blood soaked his pant leg all the way down to his boots. Still almost nobody including Paulgene uttered a word. I can’t even remember climbing out but we somehow managed to, and found a tiny ledge on the side of a cliff where a scrubby pine tree grew. We needed rest so we huddled together in mass to keep warm. We broke off some of the lower branches of the scrubby tree and got a little fire going. It was a clear summer night but without our jackets it was very very cold, and though the fire provided us with hope is wasn’t much in the way of heat. The 4 of us sleeplessly watched the moon arc from one side of the horizon to the other while our teeth chattered. When Sunrise came it was welcome but it revealed yet another treacherous climb on the side of a rounded series of boulderers with hardly any handholds in which a fall would’ve resulted in certain death; But somehow we did it. And probably not much more than 6 hours later we were off the mountain and eating hamburgers at a diner in Jackson, Paulgene’s treat (as he was the only one of us who had any money!)
Thanks for sharing that story!! Must have been terrifying! Being on the mountain can really make you feel small and make you push yourself to your max.
This channel has helped me to believe in myself again. I've lost 40 pounds so far and have started to climb peaks and rock climb regularly! Thank you, seriously.
Wow! And I enjoy these videos so much that I just sit in an easy chair all day watching them! So I'm the one who stole those 40 pounds you lost. If I only had a built in port a potty I'd never have to leave this chair! Of course the bed sores get to be a bit of a drag but you just gotta push through the pain! No pain no gain, of weight that is 🤣
No greater friend exists than one who will give you his boots that are causing him blisters in exchange for your boots that are working just fine on you.
Nicely done and filmed! This one brings back some potent memories for me. It was the first actual mountain that I climbed at age 17 in 1976, after a couple of years of single pitch crag climbing. A friend and I drove out from the Midwest, borrowed some gear (couldn't afford any yet) from a group of climbers at Jenny Lake campground, and headed up without much idea as to a route. Got lost traversing the summit ridge, caught by darkness on descent, headlamps burned out on technical ground, then chased by a bear while bushwacking through miles of blowdown trees in the dark. Finally made it back to camp at 0300, thrilled to have survived. I can't believe I kept doing it after that first intro to mountaineering. Looks like you had an awesome day up there.
@@user-sk9hl7si7l Crawling over and under blown-down trees, getting all cut up. Bear was bigger and couldn't get through those tight spaces. Lots of grunting, roaring, and broken branches but it gave up!
I hiked and climbed Dissapointment Peak, which is right next to Teewinot, and I can definitely confirm the view was amazing. At 1 point there were 6 lakes visible from where I was, and they had such a variety of colors. After a nice 12 miles of hiking and a couple hours of 5.6-8 climbing, as well as some buttsliding down snow, I was greeted by a fox that walked about 10 feet away from me. There was also an elk and many marmots throughout the hike. Great park that never dissapoints!
You guys have inspired me, I have the deepest passion for hiking, and mountain biking, but I have never done such extreme climbs as you guys. I didnt even know trails looked like this. I want to experience all of these places, and I can watch all of then through you guys !:)
Dude your videos are seriously amazing. Beautiful shots, love the cuts, love how sometimes the shot changes to reflect what you’re saying, love the on the go shots which I know require you to do stuff twice over. Overall 10/10 entertainment and documentation.
What an awesome video, look at those epic views!! As someone who's just getting going documenting adventures y'alls work is a big inspiration. I'm gradually making my way through all of your stuff :-)
Mediocre Amateur and Voltron in the same video, now that is a mash up! Great vid as always lads. Teewinot has been on my radar for a while now and in what has apparently become a custom you guys bagged it first. Kudos!
A friend and I scrambled that back about 1989. I remember one short bit near the top where we sort of wished we'd had a rope. Great ascent, great views!
Another awesome video, so many gorgeous views! Bonus: Love Danny's chuckle in the background when the word "girth" is used and, of course, the "plummet from the summit" rhyme
Sweet video. Thanks for showing it off and bits of the tough parts. I don't have a crew to go with or snow gear for when I visit in a week...maybe another year.
Grand Tetons is on the bucket list for sure! You guys should do a half dome trip. I'd recommend going in October when the cables are down and using prusiks to ascend. 18 miles start to finish if you take the mist trail up and the JMT back down.
Saw the notice from YT that MA has an update, so pulled the company truck into some shade, told the guys to go somewhere else for 30 min. and hit play - Another Wicked Cool Vid!
Excellent footage & narration by Danny (as always); think the next outing is going to need to involve a sandwich & a beer at a point midway for Christof, he's been taking a few 'for the team' of late ;-)
Just climbed Teewinot and Moran thanks to your videos. Have you guys climbed Vestal Peak in the CO San Juans? I just did that one too. Spectacular peak, similar difficulty to Moran but less sustained and with a walk-off. Thanks for the great videos.
the boys back at it. Great one

Can we get a collab between y’all? Omg that’d be amazing
Danny: Can I climb it?
Stranger: Yes
Danny: That’s enough beta, let’s go!

Nothing like the hard way to learn tons of lessons!
Had a somewhat similar experience in 1969. No bears, though.
lmao, howd you got away from bear

Pop Tarts and fruit snacks?!? Is my granddaughter there in the background somewhere? Epic climb in one of the most beautiful mountain ranges anywhere!

Mediocre Amateurs: "A little bit challenging"
Me: I could probably do that.
Narrator: He could probably not.
Cool mountain. The plummet from a summit view turned my stomach over.
Stumbled upon this channel. Some of the best hiking/climbing content around. Cheers boys
Favorite channel. Love waking up to this surprise. I always need a little inspiration...especially these days !!!!
I’ve always thought Teewinot was a super underrated Teton. It’s just kind of jutting out there by itself, overshadowed by it’s more famous neighbors.
You guys have inspired me, I have the deepest passion for hiking, and mountain biking, but I have never done such extreme climbs as you guys. I didnt even know trails looked like this. I want to experience all of these places, and I can watch all of then through you guys !:)
Thank you for this, I really needed a mediocre vid today. Thank you so much for all the adventures you bring us on.
Had a really rough day today. Your video put a smile on my face. :) Keep being awesome!
It is so funny how Christophe gets ragged on but when he's on camera dudes cheery and knockin out every challenge.
I think it doesn’t phase me because at the end of the day I can just turn and say “bro, I fly a 787” lol
props to ya'll for knocking out so many mountains... respect
That was incredible! What a unique view of my favorite mountain range.
Oh man, this is a Park Junkie fave!!! Perhaps the best view in the Tetons!
Damn, what a gorgeous scramble! Gotta get over there. Thanks.
Wow, gentlemen! Spectacular video! Thanks for sharing

So cool! I'd love to see more of the descent. Climbing seems so much easier than coming back down. 😏
I love the adventure. I love even more that there is no product placement every 2 minutes 👌
Wait we’re getting huge sponsorship $$$ from Maverick gas station fruit pies, pop tarts and Welch’s fruit snacks lol

That's a great video. I'm lucky to see this video.

Fantastic video guys. Teewinot is more awesome than I remember. You do great work, thanks!
I love those blue lakes in the background. So scenic
Your videos are like therapy. After a long day of work this is a fuckin blessing. Thank you guys❤
another great video.....never miss your stuff.....appreciated totally
So wonderful view from the top of mountain! Love Tetons, which are my favorite places! Hiking there almost every weekend two years ago!
It's the little things that make these videos great. Voltron...love it!
Woooooohhh. This episode activated my day and get pumped for the weekend. Awesome climb team. Epic views. You guys are the summit 🔥👊👍✌️
love the mix of rock and snow you guys do, perfect ratio
Oh man! This was a good one guys.
That was beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Excellent beta and amazing views. Love these videos!!
this is an epic channel so glad I found it.
Gorgeous guys!
Always a good day when the boys upload
Danny couldn’t help but cackle in the background when Matt comments on his “girth”. Almost edited it out…but still there!!!! Lol
Enjoyed seeing this. I've done it twice. It is an incredible pointed summit and view.
Another awesome video, so many gorgeous views! Bonus: Love Danny's chuckle in the background when the word "girth" is used and, of course, the "plummet from the summit" rhyme
Always enjoy your videos; nice climb!
Awesome hike and video!
God you guys are so inspiring. I watched your videos and then that night drove to a 14er trail head and hiked it the next day.
Sweet video. Thanks for showing it off and bits of the tough parts. I don't have a crew to go with or snow gear for when I visit in a week...maybe another year.

Great video you guys crushed Teewinot and made it look easy! Awesome climb
What a great video with some new MA music.
Absolutely top notch content as always
Love you guys!
pop tart in one piece is most impressive bit...well done fellas!
The fruit pie always wins- it's not even close. Man if that thing is intact at the summit you deserve the glory ;)
You guys rule! Spectacular!
you guys should do mount Katahdin Via Knife Edge in Maine. Also, great video!!
Best hiking channel on youtube!
I think that us as fans of MA need to spread the word about this channel and get Danny above the 100k mark. Lets go!!!
great stuff yet again! welch's fruit snacks are the move. berries & cherries best flavor though haha
Christof is back and there are no dislikes on this video... coincidence? lol

Wish I knew you were here doing it! I live across the meadow from the trail...
Thanks for the offer! I'd gladly stay at you house lmao
Just realized you guys live less than 5 hours away from the Tetons. No wonder you get there so much. That's some awesome good fortune.

That looked like one of the gnarliest mountain i've seen you climb.
Standing on the pinnacle, that's a ballsy move!
Always wondering what the background music is at around 5:30. So serene and beautiful!
Obviously the pop tart is the most impressive haul Danny 😛, fruit snacks are gelatinous and elastic
Animals! Thanks for the inspiration! Pretty sure I get more nervous for you guys than you get for yourselves...
Wondering if you could do a shoe review or review of the gear you took in this episode. Congrats on another great adventure.
Another excellent video, keep it up!
Nice view of the valley up to lake solitude. Just hiked that with my daughters a week ago.
Well done! I’ve gone the wrong way up Teewinot twice 😂
I seriously can't walk to my car from the kitchen without my pop tarts breaking apart... thats impressive
Beautiful 🗻🗻🗻

Yes! Welch's Fruit Snacks! Best hiking snack ever!
Back in the tetons LETS GO
What a view!
Great stuff as always!
Nice TR. I remember climbing Teewinot a long time ago. Similar route to what you did.
