The sound Jerry makes on his guitar @ 4:21 is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
First heard this version at the tender age of 9 years old. That sound has stayed with me for 26 years.
100% my fav Jerry lick ever, just learned the time it was stamped in the song ;)
A little quick slide down the frets with some fast delay ❤ sounds like water trickling off a tree's leaf in the morning sun.

I love at about 3:52 you see in his face that he's seemingly excited he gets to deliver that in about 30 seconds. Oh, to be young again.

This really is the perfect song. Perfect guitar, perfect singing, perfect soul. By far my favorite dead song/version of all time. I crank this shit up LOUD when I'm feeling good, and when I'm feeling bad. Never gets old!

Every instrument is played with such feel. So far this is the best version i ever heard.
This audio needs to be remastered big time. My favorite version of this song.
It's off their official Terrapin Station Live release from around 97/98. This is that audio but not in HQ. This version is also on With Out A Net.

I was in Atlanta GA. The Omni 2 weeks later 1990/4/1 They played an even better Althea, IMO. IT was like a jungle of music on LSD... All those weird sounds the slide guitar would make sounded like lions roaring!. The drum sets sounded like a steam engine. Yet Jerry's licks were so soothing. We all danced with a little skip in our step. The smell of patchouli and dirty hippies. If I only knew what I was witnessing. I would give at least 10,000.00 for a ticket to go back in time to that show!

@@Stellamaeby yep, and its a real beauty init! Ryan may be a whack-job (well, according to what I read anyhow) he is still a pretty amazing musician. The lyrics and music are gorgeous....love the line "Rosebuds shipwrecked up on the Ohio".

Is Jerry playing without a pick? Seems like he's fingerpicking.
Jerry tried to fingerpick as much as possible, he was very good at hiding the pick between his index finger and his middle nub when not in use. It hard to see when he switches to flat picking but if you watch and listen to his attack you’ll be able to start to notice the difference

This is on With Out A Net and the live "Terripin Station Limited" that came out in 1997 which is this entire show 03-15-1990. The Terrapin Limited release was suposed to be a kick starter for Phil's Terrapin that he had been planing on bulding since way back then. Dicks Picks 1 was 10-19-1971.
