Thanks for this. My buddy and I are local in NH lakes and fish Winni all the time, but have had very little luck with Lakers since a lot of tips and tricks are done in much diff bodies of water. So we appreciate all the great info and will try them out this year. Cheers!
Thank you! We ordered your Winni box as well. One thing that surprised us was how much smaller your shads were than the ones we were using before. (We primarily stuck to 3/3.5in plastics). And we also fished mostly drop offs. Now just got to go out and find the right spots :) @@BendItFishing
It’s tough without a sonar and when the lake is a bowl with no hump’s, at that point would you still target them deep or fish a ledge or a cove the lake is loaded with smelt that are on shore but my guess is they move deeper when the sun comes up managed to get 1 this morning but would like to find where they’re all at lol
I would setup right outside the bait or any sort of cove if the lake is a bowl. Also look at the Garmin striker castable sonar it's like 100 bucks for a sonar and syncs to your phone
@@BendItFishing thanks man I was researching those but everyone says the garmin striker 4 is the better option and about the same price but I really like the view on the phone sync sonar a lot better
@@BendItFishing it definitely can be but with this year little less than normal only 7-8 I’m in northern Maine heard the south doesn’t have much at all
I have noticed I catch a lot less fish when someone is with me jigging in the same shack. Fish will start to chase one then the other and then just give up. But when I’m alone they seam to chase the one jig a lot more.
Happens to me as well the laker gets confused on which is easier to get. Best thing you can do is take turns, and have your buddy reel out of the way or go to bottom.
Me and my son fish alot togeter and happen all the time as sonn some one out of the tent they seem to be chassing alot more and hook more to glade im note the only one notice that
This is fact! Buddy and I were in same shack he was jigging I was dead sticking (making food) Laker engaged his bait followed, chased, and then smashed the dead stick. Might be worth a shot?
A man who some consider the best ice fisherman in Canada swears by leaving jigging lures suspended in mid water column. Water currents move the lure. He says he catches more togue this way than actively jigging with and without bait.
Regarding the photo of the inside turn, where exactly are you focusing. I typically fish the humps and want to get more experience with the turns and I can see that there will be some of the same issues as fishing a sharp drop off, so whats the best plan. Thanks again!
About a century ago a 42 and 48-pound lake trout were caught ice fishing in 4 feet of water near the shore of the side of a point in a Maine lake. They were caught with dead bait on alders. Though not officially weighted, they were hung in the 5 feet bay window of the town barbershop. I hooked a togue that I lost after 1 1/2 hours of fighting not far from there in 70 feet of water. I estimate it between 40 and 50 pounds. The big ones are out there. But very, very few bother or even know how to catch the true giant (a 5-pound laker is NOT a giant, as I see frequently on the Tube).
The drop-offs are one of the best places to fish that's where the big trout hang they don't like to like spend energy so they like to disco vertical up and down in the water column for food so they don't have to move
I'll definitely be buying some of those plastics from you not sure if I'll be back up there this season but I'll definitely buy some next year, just a question though do you sell the jig heads as well?
Im new to ice fishing for lakers, ive always been a pike and rainbow guy. Im finding the lakers and have tons of them on my graph checking out of my lures and dead bait, but they never ever bite. Im dead sticking, jigging, sppons, jigs, jigging rap, white tubes....every thing i can think of to trigger a strike and they just follow it and never hit. Idk what im doing wrong.
@@BendItFishing It is, i finally bought electronics this year just for lakers and kokanee. Lots of yellow perch, fat head minnows, suckers, pike minnow.
Sounds like you need to reel faster to play keep away. They'll easily close in on something being reeled up on a 2500 sized reel at a pretty brisk pace. When you get a follow, reel and keep reeling. If they follow and don't eat, gradually increase your retrieve speed. Usually they'll take.
@@BendItFishing cool, I usually do Sebago at least once a season. Mostly from 140-190 feet deep. It's been much tougher since they changed their management goals and basically are killing it off. would be a fun one though.
@@BendItFishing awesome I haven’t been ice fishing yet this year our treasurer at church in his 80s brought us perch he says ice is 3 to 4 feet thick his auger won’t reach haha
Good tips man! Clean thats flasher screen up though lol way too much interference going on, you should only see your bait and bottom not a million flickering lines lol
If you don't like fishing drop off because you can't use your phone I don't use sonar like that's where the big trout hang out so they can just go vertical up and down for food rather than scavenger
Just got inot some lake trout ice fishing, and this was truly one if the best videos I've seen. Thanks a lot!
Welcome!!
Thx so much for these tips. I'm new to lake trout fishing and trying to find ideas like this to help me out. Thank you.
Glad to help

You are very welcome! This video works on all inland Lakers in NH, VT and Maine

2 inch is where it's at! Especially during ice fishing season! I'll cut them in half sometimes they can be so finicky. Try fishing flats as well
You are welcome!
This video is getting me pumped for my west grand trip!
I'm hoping lake champlain freezes well this winter. I'm so hyped to try it
I hope so too!
Great information! Thank you!
Great Video, really appreciate the last few minutes! GREAT JOB, THANKS!

I'm sure the striker 4 is a little better if you have thick ice

Have the second fisherman jig at a different depth or deadline fish with a huge sucker.
Very good information. Do you use sucker meat? Thanks
Sometimes but just a tiny bit

I start just inside the two points if you were to draw a line, if there's no fish I work my way in
Great video enjoyed it I will try these techniques I am new to ice fishing trying to learn different styles .thanks again Andy...

Ya 5 pounds is not a giant that's a long fight with a laker

never heard of the reverse auger trick, but i'll try anything once!
It works trust me!

Sounds like me for the first year targeting Lakers. Lakers can get extremely picky about what they eat. What does your lake have for bait fish?
@@BendItFishing It is, i finally bought electronics this year just for lakers and kokanee. Lots of yellow perch, fat head minnows, suckers, pike minnow.
I would try really tiny baits like I sell a 2 inch swim bait with a 1/4 ounce jig. Also a long leader like 12 ft
@@BendItFishing thank you, ill give both of those tips a try. I havent been using a leader at all, just 20lb braid.

Caught a 29 incher in 6 feet at night fishing for cusk on sebago
I bet!
Excellent, thank you!
Ill pop them on my Brookie set under 3 foot deep. They roam big time.
huh?
@@BendItFishing We catch Lake Trout on our Brook Trout set super shallow around 1-3 foot deep of water right under the surface. They roam.
That's awesome!! I'm going to try and sight fish for them this year! If you plan on going to Sebago this year I'd love to collaborate with you!!

Probably ice out

Lake Winnepesaukee! “Don’t Hassle Me I’m Local”
I'm local too which is why I don't name lakes except winni and newfound
@@BendItFishing quoting the move What About Bob?
so you run the auger in reverse up and down after the hole is drilled ??
Usually drilling a hole calls them in. But if I don't see a fish I'll do the reverse trick
11' deep in Winni.
Nice
Dude pen smell are like a lot smaller than what you said and the smell can be a lot bigger than that..Jack smelt
ya but there are more smaller smelt then bigger smelt
great tips!

secret is you need the tools to work.
Pretty much
you didnt even catch 1
