That season he was in charge of the reigning club world champions and an experienced team who were 5th in the league when he came in. The squad only became bloated after the January transfer window too. There are no excuses for how bad that Chelsea team were that season. They looked completely unfit as time wore on under Potter, and we completely disappeared in the second half of every game due to fitness, he managed Chelsea terribly using players out of position and players who had good starts under Tuchel in Sterling, Koulibaly and Cucurella were terrible under him because of how he used them etc. Easily the worst manager in Chelsea’s history for me and he’s actually got the lowest win percentage in Chelsea history of managers who weren’t relegated and he gets off way too easily based off how bad he was.

Swans fan here. Luke Williams is the only manager we've had since Potter who has come close in terms of likeability and enjoyable football. I thoroughly believe if he'd had a second year with us we'd have been seriously looking at a promotion season. Ultimately, Graham had a fabulous thing going at Brighton but made the wrong choice to go to a Chelsea squad which needed a firm hand. He was much more of a diplomatic soul looking to make everyone feel good. Whoever gets him next will have a great man but he needs to choose the right club for him. That club certainly won't be Manchester United - lost cause that one.

This is a deluded take. He had a horrible squad and too many faces in the dressing room. There were literally 35 players he was managing. And he didn't have a Palmer, Jackson etc to get him out of trouble. Poch with a much better team than him had Chelsea between 10th and 12th for majority of last season for a reason. There were fundamental things wrong with Chelsea and a lack of quality. Potter is an amazing coach

I thought potter was so unlucky. He came in at the most chaotic time possible. At that point, we really did have nearly 40 players, so many that wanted to leave, lost players because of sanctions etc. We struggled to score goals, but we didn’t concede many either and you could see his ideas on the pitch. He actually got sacked after a few decent results, then an unlucky loss to Aston Villa. I still believe he’s a fantastic manager.

I liked Potter but possibly the enormity of the takeover then needed a charismatic and more successful coach. When Chelsea were finally putting one or two results together, he was sacked. The players lost heart and had to start again which even Lampard had trouble with. A mid table team under the radar would suit Potter.
I always thought Potter was overrated at Brighton, but given that Chelsea is an absolute dumpster fire, I don't think his time at Chelsea proved me right.
