I'm not sure why anybody would be offended by this, Mary suffered an encounter that brought her viscerally back to the worst part of her life, and it caused her to turn to the distractions that allowed her to survive what she had been experiencing. The importance of the episode is that you can go astray and God still loves you and will not abandon you. He'll still be there when you turn towards him.
You’ve said it perfectly. We all have deep personal experiences, many good and some bad and even some terrible. Depending on all of those experiences, the time of life, the people around us and many other variables we react. What truly matters is the love the Lord has for us and learning to love ourselves. God bless us all!
It is the "couldn't happen" people in the church that we find out later have been hiding their sins. It is pride, and very harmful. Vulnerability is necessary to show the world who Jesus is and what he did for us and why he had to do what he did.
I agree. Chosen never claimed to be 100% accurate. As a matter of fact they say they take creative liberties and that it is meant to lead us to the bible to get answers for ourselves. They try to portray what it is like to follow Jesus. None of us are perfect. We fall short at times. The difference is we know how to recognize our failures and seek forgiveness. We are also taught not to judge lest we be judged. But Christians are the most guilty in this. That is why secular people hate the church. They feel judged before tbey even learn the Bible and the traditions of our faith.
@@Anti-feminist87 You're misinterpreting Judge not lest ye be judged, and you're judging to do it: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." He's telling us to examine our own conscience and insure we're free of the sin and atone to it before we hold it against our brother.
I don’t understand why anyone would feel angry about this scene!! It’s totally realistic! As long as we’re in this flesh, we are going to be attacked by the enemy in whatever way he thinks he can get to us. I had a complete mental breakdown last year but was healed miraculously by the power and love of almighty God. However, I still sometimes do battle with the enemy. The only difference between now and then is that I put on the Armor of God and plead the blood of Jesus over my mind, soul, and body. I know beyond doubt that He is with me ALWAYS and that I can trust His promises. Mary didn’t get healed of mental illness and then become a perfect person. She had trials and temptations just like the rest of us, but whether the scriptures say this or not, she became stronger in her faith for having gone through it. To me the most important fact for people to remember about this scene is that Mary repented and accepted Jesus’ forgiveness. She was a picture of what all believers should do when they sin! I really believe that is what Dallas Jenkins was trying to get across by including this scene.
I'm just blown away, I literally was sharing my testimony of how Jesus healed me of drug abuse. And then I had a mental breakdown on my anniversary which was Halloween. I fell back into the abuse, but I'm fighting everyday knowing delivery is right around the corner. He's teaching me something I didnt learn the first time. He's humbled me and I'm thankful. Thank you Jesus ❤
It was good for the show to show human nature. Anyone can backslide. That means you are vulnerable to temptation. Thats human. and yet you can still be christian.
@@byronscherer5098 that’s an excellent point. The Peter you see before and after Pentecost are two absolutely different people and it was the empowerment of the Holy Spirit who did that amazing work in him. None of them could be expected to not fall into their flesh before Pentecost.
@joshua9449 actually the change happens on the resurrection Sunday afternoon for Peter and everybody but Thomas. Read John 20: 18 thru 22. That's when these 10 were born of the spirit and received the holy spirit.
As a backsliding Christian, this passage made me cry and fall to my knees in repentance when he told her “I forgive you”. Never forget Jesus appeared to her first after resurrection. I never judge my Christian brothers and sisters for their deeds, without being complacent.
I actually related to it super hard. Jesus delivered me from drug abuse. I was free for almost a year, had a mental breakdown and then fell back into the addiction. They weren't kidding when 7 stronger ones come back. I'm fighting to get back to the place I was with Jesus. I love him so much, I don't want to let him down
Don’t ever stop. Never ever quit. “For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned. But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Hebrews 6:7-12 NKJV
Sometimes it’s the struggle & the process of struggling that makes us different people (or better people), like how Jacob struggled/wrestled with God, but became a different & better person afterwards, when his name was changed to Israel (Genesis 32:22-32). If a ball is left on the side of a hill, it’s not gonna just roll uphill. It’s gonna roll downhill, & probably pick up enough momentum that it’ll end up far away from the hill. If you want the ball to be at the top of the hill, it’s an uphill battle & a struggle to get it there. I get it! The struggle is real! I’ve struggled with depression & anxiety for several decades. Some days the ball I’m carrying uphill is a ping-pong ball or even a volleyball, but sometimes it’s a bowling ball. It’s Yeshua (Jesus) who helps me carry or push that bowling ball! He doesn’t take away the bowling ball or the need to move it uphill, but he makes it possible!
Yes, the Bible talks about "backsliding " all thru history. David, a man after Gods own heart sinned and was called on it. Moses didn't get to set foot into the promise land, and he saw God in his glorious form granted His backside. Adam and Eve walked with Him daily and we all know that story. Yes I believe in the process of becoming perfect. And when we make a mess of His will for us, He is there for us. If we call out to Him and repent. It's not just one and done. It's a process! God bless!
@richardwadsworth4259 that was before Grace.. study this: Matthew 7 vs 23. I never knew you. So Jesus doesn't say I knew you then didn't know you then you came back an I knew you again. Those who are surrendered to Christ can't be plucked out of his hand. Jesus said you can't serve 2 masters.
It seems very hypocritical to to act as if every believer will never slip into a fleshly pattern or even down right backsliding. Anyone who says otherwise is not being honest. We are flesh and blood till we are made new in heaven. We're going to suffer PTSD, anger, discouragement, fear and many other difficulties. I truly appreciate the honesty and importance of the Mary part. I'm also still surprised at how Christians are some of the most difficult people when it comes to judgement. I absolutely love the chosen and of course Satan is going to put up a huge fight to distract from this very important message. Unconditional love and forgiveness. Bravo to Dallas and the chosen team. And thank you for moving forward in the face of criticism and opposition.
I’m baffling why people would be angered by this. Who are these people that think they never sin after accepting Jesus? This is storyline took me to my knees. As a recovering heroin addict saved by grace and many other people in recovery resonated so much to this. When someone who struggles with addiction relapses they are the worst of the worst. Anger, that’s forgivable, gossip, that’s forgivable, etc but not those people who do drugs. The scene when Mary comes back and Jesus tells her to look up and He forgives her 😮😮😮 it takes me to my knees every time I watch it. Yes, me too! I’m one of those He came for at that tent in the woods! Praise the Lord for 9 years and counting of sobriety. I’m not an addict, I’m a daughter of Yahweh who once struggled with addiction. I still have struggles with other things but Hid grace is sufficient
I agree with the 5 comments before mine. Many Christians fall back and the Lord not only forgives, He saves and restores! Endlessly. The ones who do not return, are like those angry and stopping watching the Chosen because of this scene. They never really "met" the Lord.
Brandon, you don't know how much people needed to hear this. Definitely me. You are correct. Jesus redeemed us and He was and is perfect. We who believe this and make an effort to obey the commandments and love one another, shouldn't walk around being fearful of not doing enough. God loves us and, when we are truly sorry, He forgives us. As for me, that scene from S2 had an impact on me. I am so hard on myself, that the thought that Jesus continues to forgive us, is important. Thank you and your wife for addressing this. ❤
I loved this part of Mary's story. I am a Christian Professional Counselor and I have been mentoring and counseling individuals and families for many years. I see this type of real life journey happen all of the time. God is so good to mature us - it is about direction, not perfection.
The theology of the apostolic churches (Catholic Orthodox Coptic etc) teaches that people can back slide after becoming a Christian. The scene where Mary mother of Jesus leads Mary Madelene to Jesus and then Mary M says sorry to Jesus and he forgives her. This is a wonderful example of the sacrament of reconciliation where the sinner is reconciled and Mary guides the sinner towards Jesus.
This is deeply concerning that there was offense because of this. Legalism versus grace. This episode was truly encouraging to me as I am finally sober after 30 years of addiction because Jesus never gave up on me and He taught me to never give up praying for others. He is God. He is Sovereign. His promises will never fail.
3:45-4:25….what you said here is exactly why I watch the show. Being more able to relate to the disciples with their struggles and flaws has been so life changing for me. It’s drawing me more and more into Gods Word and closer to the Lord!
Some people have gone back. Sometimes things happen to them and they come back a better Christian. One of my former pastors was a Christian and he drank and had a bad wreck. He cried out to God and said if you let me leave through this I will serve you. He is the best pastor I have ever had . Great video.
Well, as my husband always says, there was only one perfect person that ever lived and looked what they did to Him. so, it doesn't surprise me that some would take offense Western society has screwed up Christianity by doing prosperity preaching, Jesus said to follow me It's gonna be a hard road. We as humans are going to fall back at times the goal is to continue to depend on Him work on improving our character and give ourselves grace as well as others. That episode actually gave me encouragement. At times I do fall back, especially when I get my attitude and moods as a human. For the most part Western society Christians are the most judgmental, gossiping and unforgiving group of people that I've ever met. This is why I do not call myself a Christian anymore I call myself a Jesus ( Yeshua). follower. Continue doing what you're doing and thank you very much for continuing this work God has chose you to do. Hosea 4:6 through lack of knowledge, my people will perish because you have rejected knowledge. I also reject you as my priest. Because you have ignored the law of your God. I also will ignore your children. mmmm profound.
As we fight to pure our hearts we fall short to the glory sometimes and this was exactly that. Walking in faith is not easy (especially when cutting out the ways of our flesh) but its reward is unimaginable. At the end of the day it’s a source of entertainment but Dallas & crew have done amazing job. God Bless and Love y’all.
Oddly enough, this was one of my fav episodes of the show. I feel like the only episode that beat it was her conversion. The reason for this is simple Before, during and after my conversion I struggled with addiction. I have relapsed so may times even as a believer, but I have had times of sobriety of extended sobriety by the grace and power of God. I think the chosen (and actually the Bible itself) show the messy process but because the scripture is a holy book, we can’t fathom that there would be ppl in it that are that broken. And I tend to assume that there are heros in scripture other then God. We forget that scripture isn’t a story book with heros and villains, it’s about real ppl that actually lived and were (go figure) a very messed up. That’s part of why the word is timeless
This scene is good in my opinion because it tells us that even if we mature at some point, there's always gonna be challenges and temptations that may pull us back into sinning...
Thank you for this. Here on Earth, no one is yet made perfect, folks! We are being sanctified, yes, but this happens over our whole lives and not necessarily on an always-upward path.
We hope we never will but unfortunately it happens. I went thru it and praise GOD He didn't drop me but picked me up asks set me back on the correct road. Praise your holy name JESUS.
I agree completely with Brandon and the lady with him on this. I think Dallas and his team did an excellent job portraying a very important truth about us disciples. We all face a very non-linear path in our journey toward heaven and never achieve perfection in this life. Brandon is an excellent Bible teacher and receive excellent teaching as a paid subscriber.
wow, i didnt know people thought that. People can get so relegious. If your faith is in the risen Christ then you have the great gift of the "The Holy Spirit" and even then we still have "Stumbling blocks" in life. God blesses this channel.
Regardless of our redemption, we are still spiritually vulnerable. Some people will struggle their lives to be free of one particular sin. And like Mary said, she has faith in Jesus, but not in herself. We have to pray for that faith in our own lives for that guidance and wisdom for the Lord to be strong in faith from the heart and from the Word.
I think it's obvious. People CAN become unsaved. I know this factually. My brother was called to become a preacher, but now he is completely against God. I don't know what happened.
Too many holier than thou people who judge others by impossible standards that they themselves cannot live by. The scene was brilliant and showed the dangers inherent in trying to set yourself goals that are only reachable by Jesus himself.
How can people know what another could/should have done in another century? How does anyone really know what they themselves would do in a particular situation, under circumstances of duress? The CHOSEN is not a replacement for the Bible, it is a work of creative artistry based on Messianic principles. In so doing, it strives through creative means to teach spiritual lessons. Of course, no one is perfect, and as such, will make mistakes, fall back into old patterns at times, but in returning to a redeemed path and way out of confusion and delusion, we bring honor and glory to God's messenger(s) who lend a hand and heart upward out of our misery. It teaches us forgiveness and compassion for self and others, and gratitude for God's continued strength, guidance and support. The CHOSEN is a modern-day marvel of the word and the virtues of compassion, patience, spiritual enlightenment and resilience. God is inspiring the writers in miraculous ways. 🕊️❤️✝️✡️
I appreciated that this story arc was included for Mary. It is a great reminder that as a follower of Christ we are still human and therefore able to sin or slide into past habits. In my opinion we are not tasked with being perfect in this life, but we are asked to follow Him, and in so doing will walk the imperfect path towards perfection. Christ’s sacrifices in the garden and on the cross provide the grace that makes up for our imperfections. As we accept and follow Christ, sometimes several steps forward and then some backwards, we will become better people, but not perfect. We will still require His grace and atoning sacrifice for our sins.
I could relate to Mary Magdalene so much...when she backslided and then went back to Jesus ... I remembered my encounter with Jesus...when I got saved I thought I would become the perfect Christian....that I would be transformed in an instant....but it took me 2 yrs to realize that it's a process and that Jesus loves me even when I'm weak... One day I was so frustrated that I couldn't see myself as transformed and cried to sleep and Jesus appeared in my dream saying that He loves me. That dream made me realize that I didn't have to worry so much about being transformed into his image and that I just had to surrender and obey God and He will do the rest....also after the dream I decided to get baptized.
Anyone who is either offended by or think this couldn't happen is blind. I love how here it is compared to our kids learning to walk or whatever. Falling happens when you even have mastered walking. The thing is being aware that you fell or stumbled but knowing God will forgive and give us grace/mercy.
This is exactly what happens with God's children. We will never be perfect in this world. We will backslide at times. However, we stumble but we get back up and move forward in our walk with Jesus. Sanctification is a second definite work of grace which comes through prayer and the reading of His word.
I do not have a problem with it. I love they showed how we are human and humans will stumble. And it shows that when she talked to him afterward. He said, "Did you really think you'd never sin again?"
The problem is it is not from the scripture, they added this and we are told not to add to God's word. The concept of struggling against the flesh is addressed in the scripture.
I completely agree. While I acknowledge that a Christian can stumble and backside, it is not recorded in Scripture that Mary Magdelene did so. She was honoured by being the first person to see the resurrected Lord. The problem with this storyline is that many believers don't study the Bible enough and may think that this scene is from the Scriptures. Very disappointing..
To me the message is that people are not perfect and might fall. Where Jesus is all perfect and all forgiveness. He’s got us no matter what. So humble yourself and go back. God Bless
I think as humans, our biggest problem is that we feel once we except Christ into our lives that we are safe and don't have to work so hard at it. And our misconception of the true meaning of the words in the bible. We cannot read the bible and apply today's speech and meanings to words. Back in Jesus time words had such different meaning. Perfect meant to be mature not without fault. I think that The Chosen shows us that whatever our battles in life are, we can back slide and fall back into old and destructive habits. But that doesn't mean that Jesus or God has given up on us. If you are true in your belief, you are welcomed back with open arms, but you need to make it, so your bad habit is controlled and do not rule your life. I try to live my best by these three ideals. Remain Humble, Stay Modest and be Charitable. God Bless us all.
I think it show humanity. We all are sinners and fall short. I was saved young and fell into the world. The death of my son brought me back to God. A bad thing can be a blessing too
When you become a believer in Jesus Christ it does not make you perfect but often people with addictions often fall back into that lifestyle. Romans 3:23 is VERY CLEAR....
My ex was a born again Christian when we were dating. 43 years married, and he allowed evil to direct him, and he became extremely narcisisstic. Which is why he is now my ex.
i. myself, have fallen and had to get back to being lifted up again by Yahweh and Yeshua. She is no different than us. Showing it is not only a good thing but a reminder that only Yahweh and Yeshua are perfect and the rest of us have a long way to go to even glimpse perfection.
I don't know for certain, but I've known believers that fell back in old ways (drinking, anger, whatever the case (backsliding)). I know this case is not specifically in scripture, but there are folks that battle past demons until a final breakthrough of spiritual and moral maturity. This humanizes Bible figures assumed to all be perfect.
I found this to be entirely possible. We as humans often get into despair and fall back. If you watched the entire episode, she returned to Jesus, and He hugged and forgave her instantly. He knows we are human and imperfect, but He forgives all the time
Mary is still a human living in a mortal world. Perfection is not reached on this side of the veil. But because she knew Jesus, she knew where to go to get back on track after she fell.
Anyone condemning the Mary Madalyn backsliding scene has no understanding of being "tested", nor the answer to Peter's question: "how many times do I have to forgive my brother?"
There have been several scenes that people have criticized, such as the one with Mary M backsliding, little James's convo w/Jesus about why he hasn't been healed, Ramah's death, even Eden having a miscarriage. Some folks don't like the idea that life would be so hard and messy for His followers while Jesus was in human form on earth. What they forget is that Jesus is alive now, and things are still hard and messy for His followers! Until He comes back and transforms creation into it's perfect state, Jesus' followers will continue to face tough times.
The power of the evil one can not be denied. If we have the hubris to think that we in our puny flesh can be mature enough in our early Christian walk to not stumble? Maturing in Christ sometimes might mean we need to fall down. The important thing is getting back up again, repenting (returning!) and continuing to walk in The Way.
Taking up the cross is struggle. Crosses are cumbersome and unwieldy, and that accepting that struggle is what Jesus expects because it motivates us sinners to lean on His help, and to trust Him more completely each day. I battle my sins every day, and am truly grateful Jesus is at my side carrying me through.
The scene that upset fans was Thomas's fiance's death, not anything to do with Mary. No one would be upset with the idea of a flawed, newly born-again Christian "backsliding" into addiction and old habits. When I left the theater, people were upset with the idea of Jesus standing by and letting a (fictional) woman die just to teach the audience, "Sometimes God lets bad things happen and we'll never know why." 😑
In actual fact, back when this episode of Mary backsliding into drinking and gambling was first aired, there were indeed fierce protests and heated debates about it! Now that we're looking back, circumstances around the death of Ramah may seem to overshadow it, but at the time it certainly created its own kind of stir!
No matter if we are saved, we are humans...we must grow in our salvation...we live in a world where spiritual warfare is prevalent. The moment we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the spiritual warfare begins to strengthen it's attack on us. WE MUST GROW. The most wonderful thing is that the Lord doesn't throw us away at the slightest infraction. God is love beyond what we can even imagine. Just like Jesus told Mary to look up, we must look up when we stumble, when we fall...His hand is always there to lift us up...set on the right path... again and again. He will NOT give up on you, as long as you don't give up on Him. YOU ARE CHOSEN... YOU ARE THE REDEEMED... YOU ARE THE REASON HE CAME! 🙏🏾 AMEN AND THEN SOME 🙏🏾💯
Because we are not perfect. It's always possible to backside.😢 With Jesus love who gives us grace and peace ❤. We progress. I love the Chosen. It has helped me connect more with the Bible.
I think some people just want to fuss and find any reason to go against things to be seen no matter the cost. They seem to actually love to fuss more than be happy and offer compliments. I love the Chosen, if it wasn't for this show, I'm pretty sure this backsliding lost woman would still be lost. This show had me from the start and made me want to read more and dive deeper into scripture.
When we are saved we do not stop being sinners and still stray .However we can repent and continue on the path to perfection through Christ.Until we are changed either through resurrection or rapture then we will become perfect.
I think it depicts part of a standard journey. Those who oppose this idea are the perfectionists who live behind facades of false piety. The best example that this happens - and is understood by the church (except for the perfectionists who can never be perfect and live a lie) - and is seen as growth - and is forgiven as part of our difficult training and path - is Peter who denied Jesus 3 times.
Not upset by this....we are all flawed. Even when we are believers in Jesus. The beauty of the scene is the magnificent forgiveness of the Lord. "Did you really think you would never struggle again?"
I agree with those here who view this scene as relatable for most, if not all of us. Backsliding can seize us because our initial enlightened moment, an unearned gift from God, is just the beginning (likened to being born of our mothers) of a journey of growing into deeper understanding of life's events; of our own gifts, talents, abilities (and their limits), discerning which aspirations are worthy to be sought, etc. None of us floats on air while we're here on Earth. Sometimes we run, sometimes we slog. And a potent prompt for back peddling manifests in fear: think Peter. HIs response when accused of having traveled with Jesus as a disciple -his three-time denial the night of Jesus' arrest even after having 'lived' with Jesus, the things he'd witnessed in person, his being appointed a leader. The old Zeffirelli film "Jesus of Nazareth" illustrates, in a beautiful and wrenching scene, Peter's remorse after the cock has crowed three times. "The Chosen" adds even more flesh to the bones of these men and women. It's a blessing.
I as a follower of Jesus can certainly relate to the scene of Mary falling back into her former life. I'm sure we all can. I think the main issue about Mary falling isn't that it's portrayed in the show. I believe the main issue is how faithful to the biblical account is the scene. We have no biblical text alluding to this portrayal. Could this possibly have happened? Maybe, maybe not but we've no basis for it. The point is remaining true to the biblical accounts as much as possible. Also another concern would be how much liberty should be taken when making these types of productions. In some cases such liberties could insert false narratives and false teaching. I'm not trying to be critical nor insulting to the Chosen, but in the times we are living in I believe believers have to be biblically sound and discerning. Due to the amount of influence the chosen has had and continues to have, I believe the producers have a greater responsibility to portray such a important subject as accurately as possible.
Yes, this would happen. She slipped up during a moment of weakness and allowed Satan to move into her mind. She later realized her belief in Jesus was stronger than the influence of Satan and returned to her love and belief in Jesus.
Most of the disciples were teenagers , unmarried and only a few in their early 20's. People matured earlier and had more responsibility and accountibility 2000 years ago. Miriam was in her mid teens when she gave birth to Yeshua.
Christians face many struggles inward and outward. Mary’s anguish at falling does demonstrate she has been touched by Jesus. What people should be focusing on is the fact that she didn’t stay down. And focus on the fact that brothers in Christ came to help her back. It is hypocritical for any Christian to believe they are completely free of sin. PTL for his Hesed. He gives us strength to over come.
I think a lot of people, including Dallas Jenkins, are asking the wrong question when they ask if it was wrong to show her slipping back after being saved by Jesus. The question should be.... is there anything in the Bible to indicate this ever happened? Not that I'm aware of. I think this simply falls under the heading of "Artistic License".
Thank you for this beautiful message God has been so good l to me. ❤️🙏☦️Awesome God ❤️my family are happy once again and I can now afford anything for my family even with my Retirement.$47k weekly returns has been life changing, after so much struggles.
Giving her my initial savings of $8,500 to invest in a brokerage account was a turning point in my life less 7days. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience.
I've seen people have issues with the sandals, the accent, and many other things (I consider nonsense), so it's no surprise they would get upset over this. To me, these people are shallow and know religion but not really Christianity applied to real life. They take this scene and several others (death of Ramah) too literally I want to shout at them "IT'S A SHOW!!" like the producers say over and over. They do not understand the intentions of what The Chosen presents. The things in the show are P L A U S I B L E. They COULD have happened, with many of the scenes being added to aid the main storyline. COULD MM have backslid? YES! It's presented to help people see believers are susceptible to sin and old behavior patterns, and when they return to Jesus, they are immediately forgiven. These people also do not understand trauma and how it affects people. It's frustrating when trying to help people understand because many do not want to understand, they simply want to condemn the show based on their personal beliefs and opinions. Just because the Bible does not record an event, does not mean it never happened. I guess Jesus never went to the bathroom.
The show is 100% accurate in this regard. I am a 67-year-old believer, having walked with Jesus for the last 50 years. I say "walked with" but most of that time was spent as a drunk and as a womaniser. If it was not for God's GRACE I would be a dead man right now. The last 15 years of my life since Lord Jesus took the bottle right out of my hand and dealt with my alcoholism in the blink of an eye - a drunk one day and sober the next, without a single after-effect of 30 years of hard drinking - have been simply AMAZING as I have grown and GROWN in Him. During that period of my life, I had many encounters with demons, and for a Christian to backslide and be demonically OPpressed as opposed to POssessed (witnessed by the way she comes to her senses and runs out of the bar) happens far more often than people realise or even think. Where I do have a problem with the casting of The Chosen (but still LOVE the SHOW) is the fact that they cast Mary Magdalene the way they did when there is not the tiniest shred of Biblical (or any other) evidence that she ever was a prostitute. It was the RC Church that gave her that reputation in the 6th Century that classified her as a prostitute. However, in 2016 Pope Francis declared June 22 a feast day in honor of Mary Magdalene, making her a saint on par with the male apostles. This declaration was a meaningful correction to the church's previous misrepresentation of Mary Magdalene.
I became a Christian when I was 7 years old. I fell away from God as a teenager. I rededicated my life to God at 17. I slipped back into sin as a young adult. God got a hold of my heart and healed my tattered soul, and now I can stand in faith, trusting completely in His Love!
I don't there's anything wrong with this scene especially because it reveals the reality of our human nature. Our Christian walk is a work in progress. There's no perfect person. The beauty of it all is that God's grace is sufficient and always available for us.❤❤
Of course, these people are wrong. You can't simply make all your problems vanish with a snap of your fingers, it will take time and hard-work. The real miracle (because that's apparently what people want) is to finally get rid of your demons by yourself.
No one is perfect, and the fight of spiritual warfare is constantly wrecking havoc on the human soul. Even ones who become so close to Jesus it can happen. Explain Peter when he denied Jesus three times. We fall short every day and it can happen at any time.
@@Anti-feminist87 You're misinterpreting Judge not lest ye be judged, and you're judging to do it:
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."
He's telling us to examine our own conscience and insure we're free of the sin and atone to it before we hold it against our brother.
Very well said. I can't believe people stopped watching the show because of such narrow minded thoughts. I feel very sorry for them.
There is not one person in this world that has not sinned over and over again it is showing that God is a forgivable God
forgivable? really? how has He wronged you?
@@natesalisbury2196 Clearly, melissabooth381 means “forgiving.”
@@natesalisbury2196 I think she meant forgiving instead of forgivable...
How many times have I backslid since accepting Christ..have to ask for forgiveness so many times..Grateful for God’s mercy and Grace
It was good for the show to show human nature. Anyone can backslide. That means you are vulnerable to temptation. Thats human. and yet you can still be christian.
She couldn't have backslide before Calvary even happened.
Yes!
@@byronscherer5098How do you know that????
We all fall short of His perfection but we come back to Him because we were changed. This scene shows we will never be perfect until we see him.
I loved that. It shows that we are not perfect, but, when we fall, we ask for forgiveness
I love him so much, I don't want to let him down
Hang in there! You are amazing!
@zephyrr914 thank you! I'm trying my best, but good Lord it's so much harder than it was before I knew him.
And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
Hebrews 6:7-12 NKJV
Praying for you to overcome your addiction 🙏
Struggling too here
Sometimes it’s the struggle & the process of struggling that makes us different people (or better people), like how Jacob struggled/wrestled with God, but became a different & better person afterwards, when his name was changed to Israel (Genesis 32:22-32).
@@byronscherer5098So why did Peter backslide when Jesus was on trial??
"Did you really think you'd never sin again?"
Church is a hospital for sinners. to heal us of our sins. If we were perfect we wouldn't need God. but we aren't perfect and we do need help.
Some people make people in scripture, an idol. They chose not to understand that People in scripture, were human. It’s sad, truly. 😢
Wisdom speaks. Thank you
It just shows that God is good and if you doing something wrong and are sorry you will be forgiven. No one is perfect.
Thank you for these words of yours: "I think my biggest thought is we've gotta give ourselves a break..."
I love it now though where Jesus calls me and the Holy Spirit leads me to him directly without needing Mary.
we are saved simply by exercising faith in the blood of Christ outside of any work of righteousness we can perform.
Mercy triumphs over judgement.
There is not one of us who is without sin. Not one of us!
It showed her as human and needing Jesus always. We ALL fall short of the glory of God.
Oddly enough, this was one of my fav episodes of the show. I feel like the only episode that beat it was her conversion.
The reason for this is simple
Before, during and after my conversion I struggled with addiction.
We all have sinned and fallen short....so please what is there to be offended about this episode helped alot of people
We hope we never will but unfortunately it happens.
I know people who haven't fallen and went back to their old ways and have repented and come back to God.
Everybody backslides. God is always forgiving.
Let us be careful to take God’s grace as a chance to repent, not as a license to sin
I love this show! Thank you!
Paul in Romans 7: For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Thank God He forgives more than once.
Peter needed restoration after denying Jesus so the Mary Magdalene storyline doesn’t seem like such a stretch.
Judas met Jesus and walked with him, and Judas certainly back slid
We all fall back and need grace
We are not perfect, only God is perfect
Anyone who is either offended by or think this couldn't happen is blind. I love how here it is compared to our kids learning to walk or whatever. Falling happens when you even have mastered walking. The thing is being aware that you fell or stumbled but knowing God will forgive and give us grace/mercy.
Emphasis on repentance, contrition and confession cannot be too much🙏
We all have struggles at times. The chosen scene that upset me was them killing Ramah
Is it that Ramah died or is it that Jesus didn’t heal her?
God Bless
Spiritual Warfare is real, we are all sinners and give in to temptation. The Good News is, Jesus will always welcome you back with open arms.
It's a common game plan of the devil - to constantly throw the past in the face of new Christians; to always put the seed of doubt in your mind.
My ex was a born again Christian when we were dating. 43 years married, and he allowed evil to direct him, and he became extremely narcisisstic. Which is why he is now my ex.
And now you're an adultress?
i. myself, have fallen and had to get back to being lifted up again by Yahweh and Yeshua.
Right there with you. Mel Gibson never portrayed Jesus tollerating sin among His disciples in the Passion of the Christ.
🙏🏾 AMEN AND THEN SOME 🙏🏾💯
And have your wife on more often. You two work well together!😁
Because we are not perfect. It's always possible to backside.😢 With Jesus love who gives us grace and peace ❤. We progress. I love the Chosen. It has helped me connect more with the Bible.
@@czcz6905 me too. It is bringing me back, i am inspired.
After salvation, we spend the rest of our life shedding our sinful nature.
Oh it can happen! Happened to me somewhat. Of course I had not been very far into my new identity. We grow every day. It's called sanctification.
It means that Jesus never gives up when you come back. We ate his children. Love conquers.
Not upset by this....we are all flawed. Even when we are believers in Jesus. The beauty of the scene is the magnificent forgiveness of the Lord. "Did you really think you would never struggle again?"
Shouldn't same argument then apply to Judas?
We're not perfect, that's the whole point.
We all sin. I’ve given my life to Yeshua/Jesus. I am not sinless. We struggle in flesh while we wait for Him to get us.
Very real scenario😘👍🏾
How about the fact that Dallas Jenkins simply takes liberties with historical Scripture texts and shouldn’t be doing that to begin with?
