    It's weird seeing the life savers side of the beach because I watch Bond Beach all the time. It's weird to me though that they didn't even mention the actual life guards

      Agreed! And obviously they might have, but they didn’t mention that the Lifeguards actually could have taken out the barbs instead of making the dad do it on the beach.
      Also I was trying to place which lifeguard made that radio call 😂

    Thank you for another upload.
    Aussies have a great volunteer attitude. I was fortunate to volunteer with the ambulance service as first responder, great training, satisfying work.

      Nona Cee “volunteer”. If you’re Australian, you should know that our paramedics are highly trained professionals to a standard similar to a doctor. My ex brother-in-law was a MICA (intensive care) paramedic (a level up from general paramedics) and permitted to perform emergency tracheotomies mid flight en route to hodpitals. St Johns ambulance are volunteers and have minimal first aid training, they are not paramedics, and usually turn up to help at sporting events!

      @@JB-lx8cw I volunteered with tas ambulance first responder emergency care for 9 years.
      Loved it, could take an ambulance home and go on call from there, or grab one at base if no paramedic on duty, In my time.
      I worked more often with icp which is intensive care paramedic and was volunteer coordinator for several years. Our training was exceptional including multi casualty exercises which involved all emergency services.
      Each state has its own system. We were rural and there were more volunteers than the paid staff.

    • @JB-lx8cw
      @JB-lx8cw 5 років тому

      Nona Cee perhaps in Tasmania, but in Victoria, NSW and QLD, you need a 3 year degree in Paramedic Science to even be called a paramedic. It is a specialised area and is paid work. Volunteers are not paid, besides, the ambulance you took home would not be fully equipped like the ones we have here, they cost millions of dollars to equip., could not afford to be off the road for even an hour. Yours would have been a volunteer van like St Johns stocked with basics.

    • @nonacee5065
      @nonacee5065 5 років тому +3

      @@JB-lx8cw I was called a volunteer first responder (level 3 cert 4, emergency care) not paramedic. The truck was fully stocked with everything but I was limited in what I could use if I was without a paramedic. I might be first on scene but backup wouldn't be far behind. Could do cpr, childbirth, trauma dressings, splints, use the green whistle, oxygen, put the cardiac monitor on, and basically keep patient comfortable, or alive until paramedics backed me up.
      Once I was doing cpr and it took another ambulance 20 minutes to arrive. He lived to tell the tale. Got him back with spontaneous resps after 5 minutes. That's the role of first responder, do the best and hold down the fort until more help comes. Great satisfaction when it works out.
      Usually though I worked with icp so could do extra exciting things. If we volunteers were not there these paramedics would be working on their own which is not desirable. We had a good volunteer roster. Obviously in the city all trucks are manned by 2 paramedics, rural is different. However training is constant.

      @@JB-lx8cw "St Johns ambulance are volunteers and have minimal first aid training"
      St John Ambulance are volunteers with a variety of skill levels. The bulk either hold or are working towards the *Certificate II in Emergency Medical Service First Response* or higher qualification, for which they have advanced first aid certificates and ongoing training in patient assessment, extrication, scene management, triage, emergency childbirth, spinal management, etc. They are permitted to carry and administer a limited range of schedule 2, 3 and 4 medications appropriate to their level of training. They do not have "minimal first aid training", and new members are required to undertake training above and beyond basic first aid before they are even granted the title "First Aider".
      In additional to layperson volunteers St John also has volunteers who are health professionals including Nurses, Doctors, *and* Paramedics (including ICPs).
      No, not all St John members are paramedics and they are not a statutory ambulance service outside WA and the NT. But they are a far cry from "minimally trained" first aiders.
      As for "usually turn up to help at sporting events", St John volunteers certainly do that - but volunteers _also_ plan and manage major music festivals and high risk events at a professional level. All major events have full risk assessment and are attended by appropriate numbers of critical care doctors, RNs, and paramedics - almost always entirely comprised of volunteers - who work alongside first responders to ensure the level of patient care is appropriate to the event.
      Yes, it's great that our emergency ambulances in Australia are usually staffed by degree-qualified paramedics, but don't knock the contribution of St John volunteers either stabilising or resuscitating patients prior to ambulance arrival, or in taking the burden off the ambulance service. At every level, St John volunteers save lives and ease the burden on the ambulance service by treating injuries that don't require an emergency ambulance.
      Oh, and you either don't know or ignored the fact that every State and Territory ambulance service in Australia relies *heavily* on their own volunteer ambulance officers, who - like St John volunteers - have different levels of training - all of which are beyond basic first aid.

    So in Australia you can refuse to pay 10 fines, go to jail for two days and then don’t have to pay them? The two days should be added to the punishment and fines should still have to be paid. Now they are fed and housed for “free” for 2 days. It doesn’t sound like much of a punishment 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

    I was a life saver from age 15 to 19 at The Gold Coast Qld. After that I wanted to start a family and settle down, although both my boys are Beach Boys 🧑🏼🧑🏽
    If your going to the beach I suggest you take some vinegar as it takes the sting out of a Blue Bottle/Jellyfish sting.
    One weekend myself and 3 other life savers rescued a turtle from the shark nets, which was very scary, I had no deaths on my watch.
    I was the fastest for 3yrs in a row in the “Beach Flags “ Race
    Iv been donating to the SLSC for over 8yrs now and the Gold badge to prove it

      FYI, while vinegar is the recommended first aid treatment for irukandji and box jellyfish stings, it's not for bluebottles. The current best practice for other jellyfish (including bluebottles) is hot water - as hot as the patient can tolerate. :)

    Policing really isn’t quite the same from country to country. For example, in the UK most cops don’t carry guns, but in the US and Canada they do. Also I don’t think you could have a “random breathylizer test” without actual evidence of bad driving or some other clearly inappropriate behavior most of the time, or without making EVERYONE go through the checkpoint, in the US, due to the restrictions on unreasonable search and seizure in the Constitution.

    • @v26224
      @v26224 4 роки тому +1

      Nerys Ghemor in Australia for the purpose of road safety, police can issue a random breath test anytime with no notice, often they will have road side stops set up to test multiple cars.

      Australian Police all carry guns even though %99 of Aussies are disarmed. In fact it's so extreme here that I'm privileged to be able to live in a state (Qld) which I'm still allowed to own a freaking slingshot which isn't even legal in many states. In Australia you're not even really allowed to defend yourself or property because you can be charged. Perhaps harsh words are your best legal defence against a mugger.😂

That comes under the heading of Summary Execution, which is actually illegal in any developed country! After your background check has been completed you can own a pistol if you're a registered member of a shooting club! Stop talking shite m8!

      micko11154 I do understand that there is a tradition of certain rights in the Commonwealth. However, given our history in this country of what failure to codify those rights and the selective application of them led to (failure by King George and his predecessors to grant us seats in Parliament and yet still passing laws to our detriment, and then later on in our own history when we failed to give rights equally to all races), we have a strong bias here in the US towards setting that sort of thing in writing to try and curb government abuses. It doesn’t always work but that is the historical background behind it.

    “If John and his medical team hadnt been there, the bikers chances would been much smaller (for recovery).” What a condescending statement, our (Australian) doctors, and in particular paramedics, are some of the best qualified and trained in the world. These Brits are only taking up these jobs because 1.There may be a gap in these fields of work and Britain is one of the few countries that meet Australia’s strict criteria where we allow doctors/paramedics into Australia ; 2. Secondment and an opportunity to work in an environment with conditions not found in Britain.

    • @grizzlycountry1030

      I think they meant strictly having a doctor in the field with him which I agree is bullshit cause paramedics save lives every day without a doctor in the way. They do seem to be strictly talking about people who moved from the UK.
