Jeez Omar, that's one heckuva of workout hauling out all those books. Omnibus's are great way to exercise the brain and bisceps. Mutant Massacre is my all time favourite cross over.
That list brings back so many memories especially Mutant Massacre and Fall of Mutants when I was in high school and college respectively. I've always liked it when the X-Men ventured out into space so my list would include the Lilandra/Shiar story line in Uncanny #107-108 where the X-Men battle the Imperial Guard for the first time and encounter the Starjammers. Also the Brood story line from Uncanny #162-167 where we finally get a Wolverine solo story in #162, introduction of Binary and the X-Men meeting the New Mutants for the first time.
Great list! As an X-Men fan I thoroughly enjoyed watching this! Here's my list: Honorable mention: House of X / Powers of X; Avengers vs. X-Men 10. The Fall of the Mutants 9. Days of Future Past 8. Age of Apocalypse 1. Dark Phoenix Saga If I could only include the X-Factor and Uncanny X-Men parts of Fall of the Mutants, it would be an easy #1, but the New Mutants arc is just sooooo bad. I never want to read about Bird Brain again lol. The UXM part in Dallas though is actually my favorite arc in all of X-Men.
Same here. I didn't like the New Mutants part either, which is why The Fall of the Mutants is only 9th for me. Without this part, this event would be number 5 for me.
My top 10: 10- E for Extintion 9- Messiah Complex 8- Muir Island Saga 7- Inferno 8- Brood Saga 7- Age of Apocalypse 6- X-Cutioner's Song 5- X-Tintion Agenda 4- House of M 3- Dark Phoenix Saga 2- Days of a Future Past 1- Fall of the Mutants
Thanks for the show. I too loved X-Factor Endgame. Beautiful art and a heartbreaking ending. It surprised me that they didn't delve more into how Scott would handle giving up his son in subsequent issues. That should have been an ongoing story in itself, but he seemed fairly fine with his decision in the issues right after that story. I'm also surprised they never tried to bring back SHIP. Ship vs Danger would have been awesome. I know later creative teams tried to use the Dark Riders, but in my opinion they were never better than they were in X-FACTOR endgame. Great show Omar.
When I came to the states, Xmen was the first comic book I purchased, and it was #210, all on your list are my favs as well. The X-men have some of the most climatic memories such as Xtinction agenda-wolverine vs archangel, fall of mutants-wolverines' speech to the camera before the sacrifice, Mutant Massacre- how the Morlocks couldn't avoid their faiths...etc, I could go on and on. Great video.
Omar, very nice video as always. I wanted to ask you (if possible) to consider making a video where you suggest to buy some of these stories in a specific format due to X reason, no pun intended. What I really wanna ask is for your opinion on which events/crossovers may not be collected in an omnibus maybe, for instance, because they don't have enough material to get more than just a OHC. This is the idea, you know, it doesn't have to be X-titles only. I know you're getting what I mean and can make the idea even better. The reason I ask is because sometimes you wanna wait for that ultimate version of a story but little do we know that F4vsXmen is a miniseries and we may never see an omnibus of that. Much appreciated, man.
Great list omar! It's interesting as a fan who is newer to this material than you, to get some perspective why the older material is held in high regard. My picks would all be more recent, like HoX/Pox, Second Coming, Messiah Complex, and Necrosha. Like the Claremont era is your era, Decimation is mine. I just hope Hickman can stay and pilot this ship for longer than a few years
I still havent read some of these! The Jim Lee reprints coming this year will help. HoX/PoX was so incredible though, it definitely gave me that hyped for the X-Men again feeling. I hope Hickman is continuing the hype with all the new series that were launched after it.

So watching this in 2023 I just picked up my first X-Men Omnibus a couple of weeks ago, it was honestly just because it was on sale for $30 on IST…. But what I’m hearing from you is this was the one to pickup for sure! Now I have to hurry up and finish Deadpool and Cable so I can read it!!
Could someone send a forklift over to my place? I need help getting my jaw off the floor after watching this vid. Omar, you would think by now I would know how wide and deep your comic knowledge is (especially with the X-Men) but you always surprise me with a nugget I never knew of or a new way of looking at something. It is always a real pleasure to watch you and hear your opinions. It always blows me away. I'm very proud and happy to call you my friend. #OmarRules #MarvelLetOmarWriteXMen
I've been going back and enjoying some of your older videos like this one. I'll just give a quick top 3 of my favorite X-MEN stories. #1. Dark Phoenix #2. Days Of Future Past #3. Inferno 😎
Omar, thanks for making this awesome video. I would like to know if you could have in your future plans for video ideas to make an introduction to the world of the X-Men. I am more of the self contained characters but the characters and personalities from the X-Men side have always interested me and would like to get into that world but I see it as daunting. It would be helpful to have a simple "guide" or overview of the X-Men history spoiler free to get an idea of how to get into the X-Men. I know that the good stuff happens with their revamp in Giant Sized X-Men but after that there is so much material and so much to cover for present day. I have no problem going in the long haul but wanted to ask being that you are passionate about this to include this in a future video idea.
My favorite on your list is X-Cutioner's Song. That was the first x-book crossover I read in junior high. So good. It was even better since it was published when the Fox X-Men show was originally airing.

You go from the X-Men sacrificing everything to kids arguing what to wear to a party. But the X-Factor and UXM storylines were really cool. Will soon continue my Claremont read-a-thon.

Messiah Complex X-Men: Supernovas (Mike Carey’s run) Operation Zero Tolerance Schism Necrosha Onslaught(From the X-Men side X-Factor, Excalibur, Etc) E for Extinction The Chuck Austen run(There are good parts) Hickman’s Dawn of X
Days of future past, Phoenix Saga, Age of Apocalypse, Fall of the Mutants, and Messiah Complex are my favs! Omar Diamond Comic Distributor is not making payments supposedly. May be awhile before we see non-digital comics again..
House of X and powers of x I just reread a few days ago. And I'm not going to lie it made me cry I felt like the X-Men haven't been used properly in a long time and it's not like they were finally women after so many years of struggling. It still astonishes me that Jonathan was able to come up with an amazing story but it felt right. Like this is the next chapter for the accident and I'm hoping it's a long chapter. And I really say give a little hell of a lot of praise to the artist and colorist and everyone else on this book that did as equally is amazing job at John Heckman you got to give it to them be with me bust their ass hardcore on this man.
After the success of Mutant massacre omni, please make David to release the fall of the mutants and inferno stories in omnibus format. We just love continuity. Great video though, I'm just planning to read some X men while I'm stuck at home.
Oh my god Age of Apocalypse is so amazing. It felt like as the story was going on that the world that was created through the actions of legion was telling the story of how it would be if apocalypse did truly achieve his goal. It was such a great story like Mikey the entire time I felt like it was just the rest of truly dread deceived his vision come to life from the mind of apocalypse. Survival of the fittest It horrified me reading that story a lot. Even some of the changes like seeing the summers work with apocalypse and their father was Sinister that raised them. Or angel on his own bar, when the same time you saw Jean Grey and Wolverine hook up with I was like that's probably one of the only plus is from the story. But the way that apocalypse carried himself like his world was speaking for him half of the time that this is how things are and should have been to the store and took a lot of preparation to get us here there is Paradise in his own mind. It was such a great story that you saw so many spin-offs from that story and some of the spin-offs were really damn good to buy nothing beats that offense in my eyes like that is the one of the go-to story for Apocalypse the really understand him intimately.
10.Brood Saga 9.E for Extinction 8.Fatal Attractions 7.Mutant Massacre 6.Fall of the Mutants 5.Dark Angel Saga 4.Inferno 3.Dark Pheonix Saga 2.Age of Apocalypse 1.House/Powers of X
I forgot back in the early noughts that there were pretty much no crossover events. Easily one of the best times overall in X-Men history. Then they started doing crossover events again . And X-Men went into a downward spiral.
I'm adding this to my to-play list, because too spoiler-heavy! I'm just coming into X-men re-reading so a lot of this is still new. But a great idea for a vid (once I've read a few and am immune to spoilers)! :)
Hey, Omar. The Uncanny X-Men Vol. 4 content has been out for some time now. When are you releasing the updated Comprehensive X-Men Reading Order? :-) Perhaps you can include Epics, TPBs and Complete Collections with the Omnis and OHCs this time around similar to what you did with Daredevil. And please don't skip Asgardians Wars this time around. It was missing in Part 1 last time. Thanks a lot!
LOL I sold My asgardian Wars. Waiting for that Epic that never came. :) Now I will wait until the end of the year before doing another one. Promise. It will come.
@@NearMintCondition Thanks, Omar! It could run up to 5 or 6 parts if we include Epics, Complete Collections and other TPBs. 😂 It'll be interesting to watch how much material is collected from X-Men (1963) until HoX/PoX.
Long post here....... Omar I want to thank you for this vid even though I’m so late to it. I’m about the same age as you, but unlike yourself I stopped reading comic books during high school. After the greats left Marvel to start Image I felt betrayed (a little dramatic I know) I didn’t understand what was going on at the time. I only knew that Claremont, Lee, Leifeld, McFarlane, Portacio, and my favorite Silvestri had left. The art wasn’t the same. The stories seemed to detour. I just wasn’t feelin’ it. Now 25 years later I feel myself being drawn back into everything again, but I was still cautious about the “newer” stuff post 1991 lol! Thank you for making this list as I revisit old friends and take your recommendations for the new ones. Thanks man, I can’t wait!
I want to take this time to thank you. No matter how old my videos are, I take the time to see the comments and reply back. Thank you for watching and more importantly for sharing the similar story I had. I left after Onslaught and came back with New X-men. The X-men are like a family to me.
I see Near Mint and X-Men I like instantly. Could you do a reading order of X-Men Gold, Blue, Red, Black, X-Force, Jean Grey, Astonishing by Soule, Cable, Rogue & Gambit, etc. (ResurXion basically) all the way to Uncanny X-Men Disassembled (trade paperbacks)? Please :)
For me, x men are not only important for world comics ,but they are a still a very important costume phenomenon not only for the USA but for all countries of the world ,their stories are in my opinion 100% civic education to be taught in schools to future generations ,thank you jack Kirby Stan lee Chris clermont for creating the best super group ever .

I would like to you talk about ULTIMATE X-MEN and X-MEN 2099 ...
Love your passion for these events Omar, beautiful to see a fellow X-men diehard fan :)
Much appreciated, seriously. X-men is life! :) I've been asked to make more videos like this and I will.
Near Mint Condition Can’t wait! A lot of Spidey and the X-men comics had a major influence on me when I was younger so yeah music to my ears 🔥
loved x-cutioner's song. still have the singles and bought the thicc trade from CGN i believe. shocked at how many of these i actually own
The best storylines should be owned in different formats. I hope you are doing well my friend.
@@NearMintCondition working remotely and staying away from people coughing lol. hope you and your family are doing well.
Aside from X factors artist at the time, extinction agenda was amazing! But inferno is by far my favorite 🤩
Great choice.
Messiah Complex
X-Men: Supernovas (Mike Carey’s run)
Operation Zero Tolerance
Schism
Necrosha
Onslaught(From the X-Men side X-Factor, Excalibur, Etc)
E for Extinction
The Chuck Austen run(There are good parts)
Hickman’s Dawn of X
My top 5 are
1 fall of the mutants
2 age of apoclaypse
3 days of future past
4 house/power of x
5 x factor endgame
I love your list!
I thought this was going to be an April fools of all the terrible stories. Should of known Omar takes X-men seriously, even on April 1st.
Always take my X-men seriously. :)
Days of future past, Phoenix Saga, Age of Apocalypse, Fall of the Mutants, and Messiah Complex are my favs! Omar Diamond Comic Distributor is not making payments supposedly. May be awhile before we see non-digital comics again..
I think things are up in the air for a while.
It was that good. Completely agree, my friend.
I wish Marvel would make a "Real Onslaught" story like they did for the Clone Saga. Better focus and less convoluted would make it a killer tale.
After the success of Mutant massacre omni, please make David to release the fall of the mutants and inferno stories in omnibus format. We just love continuity. Great video though, I'm just planning to read some X men while I'm stuck at home.
After this madness is over. I do plan on talking to him. :)
Mutant massacre reprint!
Survival of the fittest
It horrified me reading that story a lot.

8.Fatal Attractions
7.Mutant Massacre
6.Fall of the Mutants
5.Dark Angel Saga
4.Inferno
3.Dark Pheonix Saga

1.House/Powers of X
I forgot back in the early noughts that there were pretty much no crossover events. Easily one of the best times overall in X-Men history. Then they started doing crossover events again . And X-Men went into a downward spiral.
I really enjoyed Messiah Complex and Necrosha and Second Coming. Then we got to Battle of the Atom...sigh.
House & Powers of X is the greatest X book I’ve ever read
❤
Since you counted an x-Factor story, I’m going to throw in the Dark Angel Saga from Remender’s X-Force.
I was thinking the same. Such an awesome story.
Not a crossover
Hellz yeah! That's one of my favorite events too.
Awesome review
Glad you enjoyed it
I'm adding this to my to-play list, because too spoiler-heavy! I'm just coming into X-men re-reading so a lot of this is still new. But a great idea for a vid (once I've read a few and am immune to spoilers)! :)
Yeah most of my videos are spoiler free, but I usually let people know ahead of time of spoilers.
Wicked thoughts Brother, Loved your top 10 👍
Much appreciated my brother.
Awesome books
Glad you like them!
Oh yeah, and I plan on doing that. So it'll be a multipart series.
Please :)
I sure can. Those reading orders I'm tackling at end of year.
Bro plz do a top ten x-men books video
I will do that.
Do top 10 justice league stories
You got it!
Thanks this help a lot
gary sandberg thank you for watching!
Inferno will always be my favorite.
And it's coming back into print next year.
Omar has there been any updates this week (April 9) from CGN.com on when they might get wolverine or Astonishing X-men from their distributors?
They are shooting for sometime in the next two weeks. They hope.
