Nice video, informative since not much info at their website. Ordered me a few sample colors from the different lines to see how they are. Been ordering different brands to see which I like the most.

Was there an issue with shaking up the paint in the bottle? I just got the metal and alchemy set today. Just getting started on a project with them.

The paints are REALLY thick and need to be shaken until your arm fells off

i just changed to scale 75 from vallejo and i love them.
vallejo have some really nice colours but no matter how long i waited the vallejo's remained tacky and would rub off when trying to paint further coats.
these dry a lot faster and with thin layers only take a few seconds to dry so i am onto the next layer without messing around.
also i haven't had a problem with needing to shake them till my arm is dead......the vallejo's i could shake for hours and would still have lines of unmixed colour.

Any reason why the set is priced so high even by citadel standards ? Even Vallejo offer 72 paints for the same price. Is it a premium paint ?

    • @caspianclaesson8445

venom663 well its a Little cheaper than citadel

    • @yipyipyipi
      @yipyipyipi 5 років тому +2

It is cheaper than citadel and has more paint per bottle. It is much better paint than vallejo, but if you're not going for a professional award winning paint job I don't think they are needed. However if you want to win a painting contest, they are must haves for me personally.

AFAIK they where affordable until new tax tariffs where applied and that’s why the set is 260ish in the USA

Totally love their metallic paints. So I've developed a variation of the technique that Rob uses in the video with dry brushing that gives you a really neat effect. Here are the steps:
    1) Paint on the darkest layer in the Scale 75 metallic range of your choice using your standard painting technique
    2) Follow the order that Rob uses in the video to paint the mini but use dry brushing instead, making sure to dry brush with the darkest color first to get that flat metal look.
    3) Stop when the metal takes on the brightness that you want. With Scale 75 Golds, I'll go all the way up to Elven gold if it's getting hit with light, Dwarven Gold if I want something that has some light but a little shade, and Viking Gold if it's in the dark but needs some color.
Using this technique, you get a really rich and vibrant effect with a lot of shadow and depth that I haven't been able to replicate with other paints. The secret is making sure your brush doesn't have a lot of paint on it so the layers build gradually. So now I use the technique in Rob's video if I want replicate light hitting the metal and my own dry brushing variation if I want to make my metals have more depth and shadow on my mini.

Showing only metallics for a review/test of a paint range that does not only include metallics is a very strange decision to me.

I agree, plus the paint colours being put on were so similar to the models colour, for me I really couldn't tell if these were good paints or not based on the painted result.

there was a white dwarf issue a couple of years back when it was weekly all about painting and you got that poster. It's already a bit since they've released colours since then.

I wanted to try these paints but couldn't find a local dealer so I contacted Scale75.
After waiting a month for a reply from them on my polite inquiry whether or not they provide test paints I sent them another email asking if they shouldn't have decency to reply even if it's negative. "It's not nice not to have decency to at least answer your emails" is the exact quote.
This is the highly educated and professional reply from the Scale75 owner:
SCALE75 is closed for holidays. I am the manager of SCALE75 and I am going to lose 2 'of my free time to answer you. We have not received your previous message, we do not know if this mail have entered the spam folder. I'm going to tell you two things. First, we are a decent company, never in 9 years people have labeled us indecent, only you without even having dealings with us. Second, we are a company with a lot of education, something that you lack.
    Regards.
    Maribel Gómez
    Scale75
To me that is how NOT to answer customer emails:
    1. Inform the customer that you are closed for holidays but you're answering anyway as it's not confusing at all.
    2. Make the customer feel it's a privilege that you answered his mail (I lose 2? of my time to answer you).
    3. Lecture the customer
    4. Say that you've NEVER received a complaint before
    5. Call your customer uneducated.

ok but please link both emails you sent to them , it's only fair as you linked theirs .......judging by their reply it's extremely defensive so i think you called their business attitude into question which isn't the brightest of ideas esp as you was asking for testers and if you're asking for freebies it is a privilege they reply .......... you know most people buy a paint to test esp at a few pounds or dollars ........not going to break your bank balance is it but hey seems to be the going trend to expect something for nothing
