    LOL wow man, you really know your stuff!! I just bought one of these and am getting ready to figure out why it won't start...would you mind a couple questions when I find myself in a new situation and don't know what to do? :)

      I just got one a few months ago myself. Mine wouldn't start either. I checked a lot of stuff and found a broken wire for the stator at the connector near the battery.
      I fixed it and it started right up after a few cranks.

    Quick question, what happened to the side panels? I had a CM200t back in the 80's (my first real motorcycle) and this brought back some fond memories. Great color choice and Thank you

    I have the exact same bike that I just recently did this whole process to. You had me really excited that you were going to paint it yellow because that's the color I painted mine. My bike was my first time doing anything like this so it doesn't look nearly as nice as yours. Great job!

    Well done. A cool little bike. The components (air box, wiring harness etc) looked in great shape. Probably not a lot of miles on it? That Honda will be fun for years to come. Funny that we think of it as a little bike it most 3rd world country's it would be a large bike.

      Yeah it was in great shape for being 37 years old! Got a little over 5k miles (lots of life left!) I remember when I first got the bike it didn't seem that small to me.

    Dude great vid ..good tear down and great build ..I have an early 80's CD200 and it is somewhere between terrible and awful but heading for a strip down and look with hopes of a rebuild! ..I am thinking of going for a brat style or similar just simple and have been thinking about colour scheme which I think you have now sorted haha was surprised how much I liked your finished look so who knows. I have a small bike channel you might enjoy which shows the Benly in all it's awful glory if you get the chance have a look! ..subbed.

    I currently have a cm200T - this color, with same baby apes and everything. I just took the apes off to replace with clubman bars but I think my cables are too long? Did you replace the cables? This looks great! I got so nervous when you pulled out the yellow spray paint by the way :) Great color choice. I eventually want to do a matte gray with an off-white stripe. What were all the changes you made? Was it mostly just paint and bars? This is my first motorcycle and first attempt at making any changes to it. I'd love any advice you can give. Thanks!

    • @mainstreammoto4856
      @mainstreammoto4856  6 років тому +1

      All right! Yeah those stock bars were...interesting. I didn't replace the cables but, I did reroute the cables. Changes were just the paint and the bars and I also replaced quite a few nuts and bolts with stainless ones (Definitely go stainless) Since then I've put bar end mirrors on since with the bar change the stock mirrors don't work so well.

      Hey thanks! My flasher relay and my ignition coil were the only things I had to get new/after market. I was lucky that the bike was in such good shape. Some of the wire connections, buttons and switches needed to be taken apart and cleaned good and also needed some dielectric grease where needed.

    • @SantaFe-qj3fk
      @SantaFe-qj3fk 6 років тому +1

      Mainstream Moto sweet! Yeah mine is in a fair-good condition. Are there any places that you can suggest that I order parts from other than eBay? I’m not so much looking for originality. Aiming for a modern look.

    • @mainstreammoto4856
      @mainstreammoto4856  6 років тому +1

      @@SantaFe-qj3fk EBay is pretty good. I got my parts from the local honda dealer. Most parts specifically for the Twinstar are discontinued but they found newer parts that were compatible and I didn't have any problems with the parts they supplied me with. The difficulty I found was that the Twinstar is a 6V system and most modern electrical is made for 12V. I was going to get an aftermarket LED headlight but decided to stick with the original so I'm not sure if that would have worked or not...

      Mainstream Moto alright. Thanks for the help! I have a local Honda dealer so I’ll check with them on finding some compatible parts. eBay and Amazon have been my two helpful sources. I’ll let you know about the headlight because that’s what I’m planning on doing with mine.

    Hey man! Do you have a parts source by chance? I have a 1980 CM200T that I'm doing the same thing to right now, my main transmission seal blew out while I was riding. I figure I'll just do the whole thing while I've got the engine dismantled. I want to try to get my push button starter to work again. Any tips or information would be so great!

    • @mainstreammoto4856
      @mainstreammoto4856  6 років тому +1

      I was fortunate not to have any major issues with mine. All of the parts I needed I got through the local Honda dealership or had to search for it on ebay. If you go to a Honda dealership the story will always be "discontinued part" but, they sometimes have a aftermarket part that works. My flasher relay and my ignition coil were bad and had to go after market. New carb from ebay worked great! I wish I did have a go to parts place but, I think the bike is just too old. Sometimes the push button contacts get corroded and all it needs is a good cleaning and some dielectric grease (Don't be afraid to take that switch apart) Do you have a Clymer Manual for your bike?

    • @Beanys728
      @Beanys728 6 років тому +1

      Mainstream Moto I don't have a Clymer manual, but I do have a Haynes, I think all my parts are fine aside from the starter and one of my exhaust pipes cracked. I don't remember if there are any other parts that are an issue right now. I haven't been on the bike in a while.

      I had bought the bike years ago for $700.00 and put new tires, chain and sprocket on right away(about another $150.00) As far as the rebuild goes after that I'd say about $120.00 or so. New handle bars, paint, turn signal relay and a new carb. I didn't have to replace much because the bike was in pretty good shape already.
