I’m BEGGING for a professional recording of this. I’m in love with every aspect of the show already!
I think I saw that the official cast recording is coming in June!
June 21st!! I had the pleasure of seeing it live and have had every song stuck in my head since
It’s out!!!!!!!
I’ve always loved and admired Jeremy. But he’s the best for the part.
Eva is flawless as well. As usual.
And Sam Pauly? OMG. She’s a force of nature that can’t and won’t be stopped.
IKR?? This casting is absolutely flawless. I’m so happy for this cast, they seem to kill it. Sam and Eva surely have a great time aside from performing, thats for sure😭. they just have a lot of fun in general, and i’m personally so proud of them for reaching the point they’re at.
This is what Broadway needs - a big musical with a great score- great vocals and a fun book - a show for a wide audience for everyone
Except...that's not The Great Gatsby. SMH. Thought that was obvious.
@@Mr21scott it is true to the main characters and plot points - it is fine entertainment- calm down
@@JP-ne6dg It's not the story at all actually - but you would've had to actually READ the book to know that. It's not a "fun" story in any way, shape or form. I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you. Have a seat.
@@Mr21scott THANK YOU. Finally someone said it. The performers are spectacular, but this show is not at all what the book is about. It is a cynical and dark story about classism and the corruptness America is founded on. It is not true to the main characters or plot points. When I saw it at least at PMP, Daisy said she thought he was dead which is why she married Tom. Book Daisy rejects him because he is poor and from pressure of her family. It is not The Notebook.
@Mr21scott you're a little pretentious, but you're right. I love this show for what it's given us, but it doesn't capture the themes and tone of the book. that's why I'm hoping the other Gatsby musical by Florence Welch has a more accurate take and makes it to Broadway 🙏
I can’t explain how happy I am to see Jeremy Jordan doing something new!!!
Preface: I saw this at Papermill so I am not just blindly hating. Unless they have majorly changed things, this is a far cry from what Gatsby is supposed to be about. The show visually is stunning, and the performers are absolutely incredible. But, Gatsby is not this beautiful story of long lost lovers reunited happily. It is a dark, unhappy, bleak story about the corruptness and empitness of American society at the time. All the glamour and parties and high life are what the novel critiques, it is not glamorizing them which is what is so commonly missed about this story. This is not a good adaptation of the novel.
Your right, it is definitely not for people who looking for a good adaptation of the novel. But, if the original source material is not your main reason for going I think it’s a great and stunning show for all those who are looking for a glimpse into the glitz and glamour of the 20s and those who want to be blown away by amazing musical performances! (:
I saw it on Broadway and loved it!!but definitely noticed that even though they made quite a few changes from paper mill it still somewhat strayed from the vibe and feeling of the book in what it was trying to convey
@@tannerwhite6189 That is a fair point, and I was absolutely blown away by the performances. I am admittedly biased as I have a degree in English lit and Fitzgerald's work was one of my areas of concentration, but my problem with this is as I was leaving, I heard people saying how they were glad they didn't have to now read the book or how they had never read the book and now wanted to. If this is your first experience with Gatsby, I think you are going to be very confused and potentially disappointed with the tone and feel of the novel. I think this book is sadly very misunderstood in our cultural conscious, and it just makes me sad as a very big fan of Fitzgerald this continues that. I also have really not liked the attitude of the book writer to adapting it from interviews. I have tickets for Florence Welch's Gatsby, and I am curious to see how that one is.
i felt the exact same. thank you for bringing this up. (i'm also looking forward to florence welch's gatsby! if anything, the use of silver in its branding is a good sign.)
@@phoneypseudo Florence Welch Gatsby?? How have I never heard of this??
@@internetuser528 i know, right? i only found out a month or two ago. the advertising is incredibly lowkey so far - the anticipation is killing me.

@@yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee_ya5786 LOL!
THIS LOOKS SO GOOD! For those that saw it before it was on broadway, what would ya’ll say the age rating is???
I would say maybe 13. it isn’t tooo sexual but still handles a few hard topics like cheating, death, suicide. But it was also very funny :)
@@Sabrina-bc5ou Awesome thank you! 😁
There is a scene where (spoiler perhaps?) two characters moan off stage (implied they are having sex) and Nick mouths the F word (used as the verb form). It is the beginning of the song “The Met”. Other than that, I agree with the 13 rating in the comment above
@@helenchu5468 Gotcha, thanks for letting me know that’s what I’m looking to know content wise. Thanks
@@justClaya SPOILER JUST IN CASE: I would also like to mention that theres a slightly graphic scene in the end. If you read the book it wouldnt be a spoiler but a scene of suicide and murder is included which you should consider. Person near me gasped so it might be shocking.
I saw this the 2nd day it was open on broadway and I’ll just say it was magical! I haven’t read the book nor did I know the plot going on besides being told by friends it was “rich people drama” and I have never had my expectations exceeded this much. The plot twists were insane and the music, set, and costumes tied everything together so well. I hope everyone who sees this enjoys it as much as I did and I can’t wait for the cast recording to come out!!!
This adaptation is far from the actual book, I recommend reading the book it is incredible!
It's more than just some rich people drama lol. It's specifically about how stupid the American dream is.
Perchance the party may be rolling on old sport
let's gooo
Why does the set and everything have a similarity to the 2013 film version of the great gatsby?! 🤯
Because they are all based on the same book? Obv.
@@clarkbarrett6274 well, it absolutely took inspiration from the movie's aesthetic design and branding. the book's descriptions are all rather vague and theoretical, open to interpretation, a realistic and messy portrait of the '20s. very little gold, very little art deco. not showy at all. nothing like this. at best these blatant similarities arise from both being caricatures of the period.
@@phoneypseudo ridiculous. Art deco style started in France immediately before WWI. Then flourished elsewhere including the US in the 20s and 30s.Precisely the setting for Gatsby. And gold was used to highlight both the art deco nature and the nouveau riche boom time before the inevitable stock market crash.
Are you aware there's a 1974 Gatsby film with Robert Redford? It looks the same too. It's indicative of the era.
(There's a 1926 silent film too but I haven't seen it. It came out a year after the book.)
@@clarkbarrett6274 Sorry, I didn't mean that art deco wasn't characteristic of the 20s - I meant that the musical's use of it in set design and branding was only defined by a vague idea of art deco, as if it was all there was of the time, and as if art deco counted as anything with geometric shapes. My bad, I meant that it was a caricature and exaggeration of the artistic movement of art deco.
But I really disagree that the 1974 film looks the same - I don't see what you mean at all. It is drastically more naturalistic, has much less of that bitter shade of gold or bold colors, not to mention it's very much aligned with 70s aesthetics.

SAM PAULY 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Why is Jordan baker singing a song about boats being borne ceaselessly back into the past? Do the writers even know what these pivotal quotes mean? It’s like they took the most famous quotes and turned them into songs without knowing the context or what the quote means.
So not to defend this choice, but so Jordan Baker sings them in a moment of revelry (celebrating the new money people seemingly attaining their dreams). And then Nick later bitterly and critically repeats those words at the end of the musical just to underline the hollowness of the American Dream.
Yes! And in 2 Years Hollywood its gonna make a movie version of this musical. It’s terrific, it’s what we need in broadway, not a new story that captives the Audience but an old one, just now with songs, Yay!!
YAYAYAYAYYA EEEEVVVVAAAAAAAAAAA LOML
Ever since discovering samantha when she played in SIX, she has inspired me to work as hard as i can to get into a stage performance production when i’m older. i’m a 12 year old with a dream. I’m up in canada so i sadly cant see the show and my parents would be challenging to persevere to fly me down to the U.S. and buy tickets for yet another stage performance. I honestly think that this is going to be pretty good, and I know everyone's a little disappointed that it didn't talk about the darker themes in the story, but remember, it's not an adaptation it's an interpretation.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sadly, I was quite disappointed with this show. The songs are quite unmemorable (besides Jeremy belting DAIIISSSYYYYY). The plot is lacking: there's no character development, no connection to any of the characters... however, the cast is so talented. I came for Jeremy but was wowed by Eva. Also Samantha and Noah were also so good. The set design was also spectacular and well-made. But overall, I felt like the show was all glamor but no substance? It's a decent show but not amazing for me. But it's definitely worth to watch if you want to see Jeremy and Eva!
