Ive plastidip my hubcaps and they last years! Just got a black '22 kia forte GT line sport and plan to plastidip the emblem red! I've used cheap playing cards to squeeze in the gap between the logo and car, works for me👍
Great job! Adding in some answers to various questions that came up. 1. Why doesn't it peel off the badge but comes off the paint easily? It comes off the badge just as easily but the break or gap between the paint and the emblem is the path of least resistance and it essentially cuts itself off clean. 2. Can I get a gloss black instead of flat? Sure can, tons of options and colors available, Piano Black Hyperdip is an excellent choice (albeit way more expensive than brand Plastidip but Plastidip also has glossy dip as well as enhancers to change the sheen of your base plastidip coating) to match your glossy trim. What 'Did I Fix That' used is an excellent choice to match the more matte finish of the plastics, but just like the tone variation on the front there is a mix of glossy and matte so you really can't go wrong. 3. Does it hold up to car washes? Absolutely yes, I have run dip on every surface imaginable from paint to plastics and including wheels, including winter sets of wheels in the frozen tundra of Illinois. Lasted until I sold the vehicles, 4 years in one instance. It will NOT hold up to scratches, just like it will peel off easily, it will scratch off easily if using sharp objects (just like your car paint would) so treat it just like your car paint, wash and dry as you normally would, Auto or Hand wash. For leased vehicles, you can absolutely just peel off the dip to bring it back to stock. Extra DIY tips: The way 'Did I Fix That' applied dip on the rear is the best method (I did not watch the front video). Leave a nice 1 inch surround of dip on the painted (or plastic) surface surrounding your emblems, the more coats you apply, the easier it is to peel away and break away at the emblem edges when dry. Peel away at an angle as mentioned. Perfectly taping precisely around the emblems, aside from being tedious does NOT produce the best results with plastidip, at that point you might as well use paint instead of dip but you lose the easy reversibility if you don't like the results. Overspray: don't get too nervous, a microfiber cloth will remove dip overspray easily. Prep: Clean is clean, soap and water is fine, the most common failure of dip installs is failure to DRY before applying dip, water or windex or any other cleaning solution IS in the crevices, wait until its #nodoubt dry or blow out all the crevices with a leaf blower/hair dryer/air compressor etc.
I work at kia manufacturing we Americans kept telling the Koreans, the emblems needs to be black on the nightfall edition they insisted it stays the nickel color which is crazy.

Plastidip newbie here. Why did the plastidip peel off the paint but not off the badge? Ordered a new nightfall but something has to be done about the badge for sure.
It will peel off of the emblem as well. Can’t give you an exact answer but I believe it peels off the car body due to there being a sharp angle between the emblem and the body??? Maybe someone else can chime in as I am not certain. Just rest assured that it does come off the body as well as the emblem if you peel it. It is durable as I have taken the car thru a car wash and had no issues.
I watched the front grill plastidip and if you did back again would you just put tape between letters and then remove ? Seems like that might have less issues with peeling off…. Looks great👍👍
Thanks for the kind words. I probably would do it the same way again. I taped the front as I wasn’t sure how the plastidip would peel off of the plastic grill. It peels off easily from the painted tailgate on the rear. Basically it’s easier and less work not to tape the rear.
After having redone my back logo 3 times now due to the edges lifting off. I’m super anal and seeing any chrome is gonna be an eye sore. This method worked great for the front.
The factory finish of telluride is a black chrome. So it’s not a completely perfect match as the plastidip is more matte or flat. Overall I like it but I would like it more if the factory had done it properly from the start.
I'm not good at this kind of stuff so this might be a dumb question but what is around the kia sign when you spray? I see the tape and bags but around the letters what is on there as it seems like it something else your pulling off around it.
When you did this, do you see any specs of chrome showing through the front or back emblems? I tried doing this using a different technique and could see chrome on parts.
Make sure you apply multiple coats. I think I put down 4 or 5 coats from different angles. Plastidip will completely cover the emblem. Take your time, cover all angles, apply multiple coats and it will look great. Good luck with your project.
Nice job and video. You can be a little louder speaking in the future my pc speakers are on full and your voice is still quite low. It is hard to tell how you peeled the background away without it coming off the label at the same time. Especially how you said that you did not razor the edge first. Any explanation will be helpful.
Thanks for the feed back. I will do my best to speak up in the future. The overspray literally rolls off. Just start peeling the excess plasti dip and keep your peeling at a very low angle relative to the car. Basically keep it parallel to the body of the car, don’t peel it straight up.
How easy would it be to remove it from the emblem? I've got a lease car so I would need to remove it so it's back to original before I return the car to the dealership.
I think pretty easy. I would use a hair dryer to warm up the emblem and the glue that holds it on then take dental floss and run it between the emblem and car body to separate them. Then use wd40 or goof off to get the glue off the paint.

Not sure about the gloss finish. I will say the sheen is more of a satin so it matches up pretty well. Definitely better than how it came from the factory.

I think it would be tough on the telluride as it was the lettering on the front of the hood placed where you would want the protective film. I would hire that one out. I will do an oil change video soon as the car is coming up on 500 miles.
How did the Myrtle Beach guys treat you? A few months ago I called them. The best they would do for me was 2.5K over list. I went somewhere else. Had to go to NC to get a better deal.

There is nothing around the logo. I just taped off the area with masking tape and plastic bags. The excess overspray simply peels off.

It’s super easy to remove. Just peel up a corner of the plastidip with your finger nail and peel off the rest as a sheet. Come off easily.

Did you do anything special with the spray cap between applications?
No not really. I just shake the can and apply the second coat.
Looks like the Plasti Dip was matte black compared to the glossy black of the Telluride lettering. Is their a gloss version that matches better?

I don’t think there are different types. I got mine at Home Depot, I think or possibly wal mart. I just used the name brand plasti dip.

No not yet. I only use automated car washes and so far so good. Holding up great.

Yeah, the new badge is like a big zit on a super models forehead. Yes, plastidip is pretty forgiving and easy to work with.
