Great selection. One tip I would add for stake selection is know your ground. In Seward, Alaska, at the head of a ocean bay, the area is all alluevial fan dirt with large rocks, so strong metal stakes are a must to get and break through rocks. Thanks for taking the time to teach us!
Practically stealth camping trip, no trace left behind. The “packing up” scene in the end for those who don’t watch all the way through the area looks like he was never there on this bugout bag trip. Watch it again and check it out!
@@PooRadley the point was that you couldn’t tell he was there. As in it is harder for someone to track you. Do you get that now? Or are you still confused.
You inspired my 13 year old daughter to take inventory of her emergency/bug out kit. We have 5 children and they all have their own kits. They all enjoy your videos. Thank you for taking the time to teach us these skills.
I don't know if you'll ever see this comment, but just a tip I learnt from my time in the Infantry, if you didn't already know: When you showed of your trauma kit, it would be worth it in my opinion to take the CAT tourniquet out of the packaging, and have the end of it pre-fed through just one of the loops. This means that if you somehow lose function of one arm, say for example you take a nasty fall and have a protruding bone injury that's hemorrhaging blood, you can still self apply the tourniquet with one hand. I say only thread the end through one loop instead of both so that you can still pull it tight with one hand, then the velcro will hold it secure enough for you to use the windlass rod and properly tighten the tourniquet. Loving your video's man, I've learnt a lot of valuable techniques from your experience.
Absolutely the best bug out bag I’ve seen so far. If you were to price it the same way as the Amazon bug out bag it would probably cost $700.00. The only item I would add would be to throw in a packet of bleed stop (it’s a granular material you pour on a cut that would require stitches otherwise and completely scabs up the cut). It was a trip saver for me on a canoe trip I took. I was a little careless and cut the palm of my hand that would have required at least 5-10 stitches. I poured the bleed stop on it and it instantly stopped bleeding, I followed it up with some gauze and duct tape.
When you hear "The chair is against the wall" you KNOW that SHTF! Great kit and exactly what I was thinking for simplicity for those without many of the survival skills. Just enough to get you where you're going. I did a little bugout for my own mental health a few weeks ago. Put my Pathfinder canteen cook kit and bag in my motorcycle saddle bag and went to a local campground overlooking a reservoir with hardly anyone there. Used my little propane stove to boil up some water and had a Stowaway Bison Beer Chili for lunch while watching bald eagles...Merica!
Hello from British Columbia 🇨🇦 Steve Wallis is awesome 👍❤️ . The first video I watched he was camping in behind Home Depot..I thought wtf ... but his quirky humour is infectious 😊
"Infamous" cracked me up!! One of my all-time favorite movies. And, I wanted to pass some encouragement on to you: I have learned so much from your channel and my outdoors creativity has expanded. People like me need people like you. Thank you for all have done over multiple contexts, and all you continue to do. It is very clear a lot of time & effort go into each of your videos, whether it's an in-depth build or a gear-focused campout. You and the SRO guys are the absolute BEST, hands down; none of you get enough credit, in my opinion. Keep it up.
All the best for Christmas and New Year, hope you and your family are all safe and have a wonderful time. Thank you for your videos over this past year I have enjoyed them immensely. And look at the numbers, there's little doubt that 2022 will be your year to crack a million viewers. Incredible stuff well done
Corporal Kelly always delivers, never disappoints. Another clear and concise lesson that anyone, @ any level can benefit from. I'm one of the many that subbed to Paul's channel. Well worth the visit, he's putting out good, quality content and cares about educating the community. Thanks for all you do. Happy holidays to you and your family.
Easily on of my favorite videos. I love that you're interested in offering knowledge with accompanied demonstrations and experience, for someone like me, that's a godsend. Thanks for another great one, Corporal.
I'm glad you included that IFAK. It is a great value and an excellent starting point for building a solid kit. First aid may not always seem as sexy as the survival or tactical side of things, but I'm a firm believer that everyone should get trained on the basics.
Cpl. Kelly......WOW !...this was the video I was waiting for, and its jam packed with goodness from the master himself !....... thank you so very much for putting together a Cpl. Kelly approved kit for us ! Your the best !.......merry Christmas and God Bless
Right on Corporal! We appreciate you getting out there every weekend putting in work and showing us gear or ideas we ask about. Always a fan of this channel -Gulf coast pine belt
Really like this one, simple yet functional. Also just the idea of finding the sort of minimum setup that works for you, and grow from there at your pace, steps at a time - that sounds like wise steps to me.
15:35…. I had that radio during the Texas freeze power outage….. was able to use it to get emergency information and use the flash light….. we had no power for four days…. Solar charging worked greats….
Very nice! I love how you refer other Bushcraft channels. You have a kind and selfless heart. You have been my inspiration for starting my own channel.
I was in the Navy from 72 to 80. As a parachute Rigger, we dealt with survival items for the pilots. One of the things that you mention is coffee. In the survival vest back in the day, SV1 and SV2, was an item called "Eat A Cup Of Coffee". It looked like the old candy "Charms" but was light brown and came in the same packaging as Charms. Small, compact square roll and tasted just like coffee. BUT these things were dynamite. One candy was equal to a cup of coffee and loaded with caffeine. Two of those would defiantly get you going. The only drawback was it wasn't a warm beverage. Of course if you punched out of your plane over water, there really wasn't any way to make a warm beverage, lol.
Another item for the first aid kit should be a quik clot pack easy to use lite weight and combined with a tourniquet if u got a gusher of a cut it works
I fully agree with you, johnfrank tullo. Some may think that the items you mentioned are unnecessary, but they would be wrong. Not too long ago while I was home alone (husband was in a nursing facility), I was climbing down off a tiny 6-foot tall ladder after trying to change a lightbulb in my garage ceiling. Thinking my next step down would be my last, it almost was, as I lost my balance, fell backward and hit my head on the concrete garage floor. Luckily for me, my split-open head did not hurt as much as it bled, and I knew where to go for immediate urgent care. I wrapped a kitchen towel loosely around my head and put a plastic cap on it and headed out for treatment (that headdress did not help much). If I had had a blood clot package at home and the sense to use it, I would have done. God forbid that something similar should happen when I'm in the boonies alone or with one cohort.
Your bug out kit was awesome and your thinking process behind this kit made sense as all your videos have. I’ve put together two bug out kits for my wife and I. I’ve followed many suggestions from your videos. My oldest daughter has taken interest into bushcraft/hiking and I introduced her to your channel. She loved it so you should have a new sub. Out freaking standing as all always! Cheers 🍻 amigo and Merry Christmas 🎄! 😊👍🇺🇸 Here’s looking forward to 2022 for another off the chain year!
Very similar to my pack. I do carry a little more as far as pots, but is will also be responsible for my wife and 3 kids in a true emergency bugout. My youngest has his own pack with enough gear for maybe 2. My wife and 2 kids have a form of muscular dystrophy, so anything limiting their mobility in an emergency is a no go. But my youngest is 11 and stout as an ox. He loves bushcraft and practicing survival. Your vids are our Sunday tradition!
My fiance and I watch your videos all the time and we can't wait to get our son out in the woods to teach him everything you have taught us! We literally spend most of our evenings after we eat dinner watching your channel. THANK YOU!
With the Pathfinders 10 C's & redundant C's as the foundation, a bug out bag should be stocked with items for an individual to sustain themselves in the event that they need to bug out solo. Items that the person is capable of carrying and skilled at using. I'm trying to balance a two person bug out kit with my small teenager. For example, his bag is stocked with a sleeping bag & a bivy for shelter, while my bag is stocked with a sleeping bag and a two-person tent. This way his bag stays lighter but still capable in the event he is alone. Sorry for the long answer, I hope this helps.
I find your videos very inspiring, even though I'm an old lady and will likely never camp out in the woods. I'm amazed at what you can do with so little!
Corporal, can i just commend you for your incredible consistency. No long ad breaks, concise and to the point information and no unnecessary hyping or swearing for effect. i keep checking back every couple of months to see what you've been up to and it's just a chill and enjoyable experience every time. I also appreciate the nod back to the amazon tent video, considering how some people basically attacked you for talking crap about it, even though you mentioned better alternatives. In this video, you then showed a product that you found to be better, but at the same pricepoint. Really solid performance all around! Much love from Denmark.
Just my two cents. If someone wanted to use a isopro burner to cook and remain stealth and or block some wind in the process you can utilize the Thermorest pad as a shield. BTW love all the movie quotes in your videos. Intro ( Red Dawn) ? 🙏💪❤️
Great video. Because of watching your videos, I have started my own kit piece by piece. I enjoy your easy overnighters, you make it look so simple. And I am going to go back and watch your compass video again, since I am getting one from Santa. Thanks for the awesome information.
Let's get this man to a Million subscribers already. Great content, great editing, and always entertaining. Also the food is usually insanely good. Thanks for the love Corporal, Merry Christmas everyone here.
Outstanding, as usual! This is the first time I see a survival instructor even mention the Sawyer. It's always been so close the the Grayl in my book that I got both.
The radio isn't so much a luxury. Getting outside info can be critical, like weather, news, or disaster updates. Also, you might have unavoidable downtime. A radio can add back a little amount entertainment instead of boredom. You may have some things you need to take your mind off of if you've bugged out. Don't underestimate boredom. It'll dull your mind.
Your bug out kit is SO MUCH BETTER than that P.O.S. $500 pre packed book bag. AND thanks again for introducing me to some TACTICOOL gear / water filter !! What is your opinion on DIY alcohol stoves (fancy feast can stove) and/or fuel tab stoves ? I always watch your tutorials from beginning to end and DON'T blame ya for ignoring dumb asses who ask stupid Q's (especially since you specifically mentioned that info). YOU DO A GREAT JOB !!
Good video! I am putting together a bug out bag. I just ordered a small tent and 2 sleeping bags made for cold weather. I’ve never successfully camped out in the wilderness, I’ve tried; but as soon as the sun was starting to set, I’d panick and quickly put everything back in my car and go to a hotel. I think if there’s a serious situation happening that I would need to flee quickly, I would make it happen. You make it look so possible.
You are the original. I find it funny that after you post a cool vid showing your skills. That few weeks later there are some copy cats using you ideas. Can hardly wait till next sunday0
Everyone saying , “i need a long spork /spoon to eat them mountain & stowaway meals…ya get food on your knuckle “ Corporal just cuts the bag in half for his short spork…problem solved. 🤪🤷🏼♂️
I really appreciate that a lot of this gear is affordable- It doesn't have to be expensive to do the job. Adapting to my region was also a great gold nugget. Different areas definitely have different needs.
You should check out another marine's channel - Hidden Valley Bushcraft. From over the Pond and a Royal Marine, but worth checking out as he does a lot for veterans and does not BS in his videos.
Dumb question, but how do you keep the bugs, ticks, spiders, jiggers, and snakes off your body while sleeping in the open? Something would chew me up if I slept out in the open !
One thing you can do that can help quite a bit with insects and arachnids is to treat your clothing and your gear with Permethrin. Permethrin is an insect repellent that also will kill ticks and a lot of other unpleasant bugs. It basically acts as a neurotoxin to them. Also, it won't melt your plastic gear like DEET can. Beyond that, you just gotta check yourself out in the morning for ticks. A small mirror (like the one on that Sunnto compass) is handy for those hard to see areas. If you're lucky, you won't have any. If you do, remove it.
@@OtherSarah2 - I like smart bugs that stay away from the fire, but the dumb bugs will sneak up on you from the opposite side of the bed ! Dumb makes me chewable!!!
15:40….. have that radio. Used it during the Texas freeze power outage this past year…. I also have a power brick with fold out solar panels…. Was awesome to have when there was no power for three days during the freeze….. was able to keep my phone charged and usb flashlight/camp lights charged.
I just put in ranger beads and your video was on the top of my list didn't even need the name. I have no clue about them so I plan on watching the video after this. I have a general idea how to use a compus. Even know how to make a compass with water and a leaf. But a refresher on that wouldn't be the worst idea. Practicing to make one again wouldn't be a bad idea either. Love your videos sir.
This is just the best channel ever! Thankyou Shawn for the knowledge you share with the ones that watch and listen. I can't wait for the next one! Stay safe bro.
Sorry about that. Hopefully not to bad. But this is a good type of video to study up on when you can't be out. Check out camping with Steve (he was shouted out in a recent video and hope they do a calab with each other) Steve's are often about camping in weird locations often areas that if caught someone might not be the happiest but hey sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Thank you for putting this video together! I love you walking through your choices, particularly in the medical kit on what you would bring and what you wouldn't. One thing I love about updating my kit is my old pieces go into a backup pack that I can leave someplace in case I can't get to my main kit. Right now I have my camping kit, hiking kit, and trunk of my car kit. The smaller kits were put together with things replaced from my main kit.
Dude, I love your channel. My family is in quarantine with The Coof and you popped up in my recommendations. I was insta hooked. Been watching random videos all day. Amazing job. Hard watching the food portion at the end when my taste buds are dead and everything is blah! Thank you for your service and thank you for the inspiring videos.
Thank you for your service. Much respect to you for being a channel that actually goes out and uses the gear they talk about. So many of these guys have channels that they pack a bag, take the stuff out of the bag and put it back in. Talk about why you need it and don’t put the gear to the test. It’s seems like it’s fostering a believe that just owning the gear makes you ready for anything when in reality if the owner doesn’t know how to handle the stresses, environment, have a proper understanding of situational awareness, all they’re left with is a large bag of gear to run around with. I recently came across a channel where a guy took his buddy’s gear pack without knowing what was inside and went and survived a night with what he had in there. It’s a shame more channels aren’t highlighting the process more than the gear, and that’s an area where you shine brother.
@@recall5811 it’s true. I asked marinex if he would do a video putting one of his bags to the test, he said DEFINITELY not cause I use my cold hard cash to get it. What’s the point in showing off gear if you don’t use it??
So, three things...1st, I really enjoyed this video for the simplicity, 2nd the multiple ignition sources...3rd as an instructor myself, This was simply the art of getting your information to the student. Looking forward to many great 2022 vids. As always just loved it.
Regarding your youtube proteges . . . in contrast to yourself who has a voice that carries and is well captured by your AV equipment . . . your friends have not got either one figured out. Besides which, every school of media; books, radio, TV, movies will tell the student; Show do not tell. You have snappy banter and life experience to support an outgoing personality, a narrative that does not get in the way of what you are showing, and like other guys I watch such as everyone's favorite stealth camper Up North, or that notable big-knife-chopper-fan in Georgia, and the transplanted norseman near the train tracks on the wooded steppes east of Moscow -- an affable personality. Like the gear recently examined -- some stuff does not cut it. I am sure that they are nice anyway ( next we need Corporals Video Basics Camp ).
I'm pleased to see your kit hasn't changed very much since your older videos. I've got my bag set up very close to your older videos, and, like you say, there is no 'one size fits all'. Good show, Shawn.

I always watch your tutorials from beginning to end and DON'T blame ya for ignoring dumb asses who ask stupid Q's (especially since you specifically mentioned that info).
YOU DO A GREAT JOB !!
Nice Red Dawn reference!
Steve is awesome lol .. i like his videos
Love how you incorporated simple 3-5 min set up simple shelter, water filtration, safety, delicious food in your buyout system
You are the original. I find it funny that after you post a cool vid showing your skills. That few weeks later there are some copy cats using you ideas. Can hardly wait till next sunday0
and theirs is the best on YT and they are the top tubers
@@recall5811 I feel you are the best. Hope you have a Merry Christmas
Like how you subscribe to the "leave no trace" scout moto. Great if you aren't trying to draw attention, or care about the land.
Everyone saying , “i need a long spork /spoon to eat them mountain & stowaway meals…ya get food on your knuckle “
Corporal just cuts the bag in half for his short spork…problem solved. 🤪🤷🏼♂️
Got to hand it to ya, bro. Your videos are simple, helpful, no bullshit and always on task.
I really appreciate that a lot of this gear is affordable- It doesn't have to be expensive to do the job. Adapting to my region was also a great gold nugget. Different areas definitely have different needs.
The Copral and Steve1989 should do a camp out with some old MREs. That'd be pretty... *NICE.*
More garlic in your diet
@@jamestheeggplant5446 - Hate garlic, it overpowers the taste of food and it stinks !
that's what the smoke from the fire's for. keeps the critters away.
One of the best things about the weekend thanks
Merry Christmas to Adaptable, he's AT 12K....
I think that if you have to bug out chances of surviving for a lot of people will be very slim. Probably survival of the fittest will come into play.
I keep a 6ft ratcheting strap in bug out bag. Many uses for it including using it for a tourniquet
I just got diagnosed with Covid. All of your videos views' are going to increase by one view.
Sorry about that. Hopefully not to bad. But this is a good type of video to study up on when you can't be out. Check out camping with Steve (he was shouted out in a recent video and hope they do a calab with each other) Steve's are often about camping in weird locations often areas that if caught someone might not be the happiest but hey sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
understood the chair is against the wall the man has a long moustache refence lol
WOLVERINES!!
Finally it's here! Thanks for sharing your BOB design concept
WOLVERINES!
Always good so far keep up the good work. I will checkout your friend to see if I like him. I will also checkout Paul. Love from Texas.
2A❤️🇺🇸❤️. Let’s go Brandon FJB
It’s a shame more channels aren’t highlighting the process more than the gear, and that’s an area where you shine brother.
most review camping gear in the backyard then talk crap about real channel
@@recall5811 it’s true. I asked marinex if he would do a video putting one of his bags to the test, he said DEFINITELY not cause I use my cold hard cash to get it. What’s the point in showing off gear if you don’t use it??
*wolverines!!!!*
Glad someone picked this up. Red dawn reference check 😀
What? No bug-out bacon?
is that realistic?
Sunday funday
"John has a long moustache" while you were using the radio.. great bit from the movie "The Longest Day". Made my day
I actually thought it was Red Dawn. Gotta go rewatch Longest Day😀
I think Red Dawn used it as well, a homage to This he Longest Day.
Keeping it simple, always best. Great demo of what is possible with some thought.
John has a long mustache……I know!
Wait wheres the bacon
Who else caught the RED DAWN Easter egg?
So, three things...1st, I really enjoyed this video for the simplicity, 2nd the multiple ignition sources...3rd as an instructor myself, This was simply the art of getting your information to the student. Looking forward to many great 2022 vids. As always just loved it.
Thanks for doing the basic things like the ranger pacing beads and how to use a compass!
"The chair is against the wall, John has a long mustache"
Man, those coded Russian messages are getting weird
John has a long mustache goes back to the French Resistance/The Longest Day. The Soviet's used Alice in Wonderland and similar.
Awesome video. Enjoyed it. Love the y branch tent structure. Simple and easy to do and very life sustaining. Thanks.
I'm pleased to see your kit hasn't changed very much since your older videos. I've got my bag set up very close to your older videos, and, like you say, there is no 'one size fits all'. Good show, Shawn.
That was not a pleasant opening scene.
