30 years listening to all kinds of music. This is the first time I have ever been comfortable saying that an album is a masterpiece. It belongs in a museum as a work of art.
The more you analyze the song the more you like it. Marco's vocals are amazing. At the beginning he uses his raspy agressive voice because he's the thief (time), the undertaker of the universe Then he changes to a softer voice when he becomes organic mattter and says he looks for someone to share the thief with (to share time with). Then Floor appears (the feminine creative side) and enters life. And finally, that magical ending, where all living creatures join the silent flow and death becomes the beginning of a new life (life and death cycle. All together joining the same flow). Amazing song. One of the best of their career.
Incredibly, that is not a violin. Its actually Troy playing an instrument called an Aerophone! Check out the song 'Desert Flower' by Auri for more of it.
Some may say that Marko is a little underused on this album. I can easily understand that. There are no power duets with Marko and Floor. Instead there are lot's of great harmonies. This majestic ending anthem is where Marko is at his best. If Troy's voice was perfect fit to "Harvest", so is Marko's voice to this. Your closing words about the whole album are spot on. It's a solid and versatile album with an intelligent content. Thank you, fellow Canadians! 😜
Greetings from Finland. I just want to share what the male vocalist of this song, Marko Hietala, has said about it: “It’s a song about a universe, or actually a multiversal force, so grand, so majestic, that it actually binds and permeates everything. All of our lives are just tiny particles in this mighty flow. And then there’s this mere human vocalist, and his friend, a human being as well, has written a story. And we’re in this rock group trying to bring its unique loneliness across to other mere humans.” P.S. Since this song personifies the universe/multiverse, it fits very well with the ideas of some scientists whose hypothesis takes a non-materialistic approach, saying that everything is information expressed as thought. As such, the universe "self-actualizes" itself into existence, relying on underlying algorithms and a rule they call "the principle of efficient language." bigthink.com/surprising-science/new-hypothesis-argues-the-universe-simulates-itself-into-existence?rebelltitem=3#rebelltitem3
yes please, skipping on the works of nature would be a sin, to me its a proper part of the album and even though its not heavy it still hits you, and ad astra is just the perfect ending for it all :)
I immediately fell in love with this song, and that haunting ending sends chills up my spine every time. I can't get enough of it. Marko sounds incredible, and then Floor comes in and it's just epic and...and....JOY!
These reviews/listens have been so much fun. Thanks for doing them! This song hit me in all the right ways as a closer to a beautiful album that reflects so many things we'll experience or think about during this life journey.
Your review of this song was intriguing. This whole album has been used as an escape for me during my blood disorder IV treatments. This song specifically takes me away from the pain and sickness I have to deal with every 7 days. Your guys' reviews are very entertaining. Please keep up the good work!
It took me a while to get the feel for this song. It seemed at first that it was just trudging along. I think The Key to this song is that this sums up the whole CD as well as the previous CD EFMB. This song in my opinion gives us a beautiful yet stark and realistic view of Toumas' and most atheists spiritual understanding of the nature of the universe and how all life ends with a merging of our souls with the universal ONE. The TRANSCENDENCE! We all join "the ancient silent unseen stream". According to Tuomas; The deepest solace lies in understanding, This ancient unseen stream, A shudder before the beautiful Awake, oceanborn Behold this force Bring the outside in Explode the self to epiphany The very core of life The soaring high of truth and light The music of this awe Deep silence between the notes Deafens me with endless love This vagrant Island Earth. Just my humble opinion.
Listen guys. I'm an old geezer who has been there and in my opinion per this album Nightwish are in a league of their own. For me this is the revival of the 70's progrock and I LOVE it! Yes there are differences: 70's progrock (progressive rock) foremost was keyboard/synths oriented while Nightwish keeps it more 'metal' emphasizing the guitars and percussion. There however is one common denominator: ATMOSPHERE. Look what happened in those years with music performed by the likes of Genesis (Peter Gabriel era!), Camel and a Dutch - probably totally unknown - band called Earth & Fire (without the Wind!). From the latter I strongly suggest the albums 'Song of the Marching Children' (1971) and 'Atlantis' (1973), if you can dig them up somewhere.
Great interpretation and review guys, thank you! Nightwish songs were never the easiest ones to find access to, you always have to listen to them 5 or 6 times to understand them and get a feeling for them. But once you have done this and find new details every time listening to the songs, you notice what great compositions they are.
A primeira vez que ouvi essa música eu não gostei muito, mas agora eu não consigo parar de ouvir. Música linda! Assim como Music abre muito bem a jornada, Endlessness encerra de forma brilhante ❤️
so, that was the first half of the album. ;-) are you going to explore the Nature half as well? What you said about dropping the curtain - it's only for an interlude. The real closure for me is the famous "pale blue dot" quote in Ad Astra.
This song is a real grower! So epic. And the intro and ending is symphonic doom metal, a place I don't think we've seen Nightwish previously. I don't think they will do it live, but it would be really cool to here those chorus harmonies a bit more up front. Troy is pretty buried there at the bottom. I also think there are several layers of the different vocalists.
Thank you for the journey through the 1st part. Now, please listen the 2nd part all together, not in separate pieces. It is so overwhelmingly beautiful to listen as a whole.
I have to say that this song is one of those that hit you in a heavy and amazing way, when I heard it the first time I was the same I said to myself “that’s fucking doom metal vibes” and the last verses and melody those have to be amongst my favourites in the album ❤️
Just for the sake of it after all hyping, I would loved to see following conversation: - "So, what you thought about this song?" - " I think it was super bad" ...hell breaks loose with wrestling and flying things...:-) Honestly, absolutely great song !!
Pedro - Thank you for finally putting your poor son out of his misery! Can I suggest you both go to Guylain Prince's channel and watch his analysis of the song? I think you will find it enlightening. Floor and Marko are always at their best when they're in tag-team mode - here, Ghost River, Romanticide, Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean etc.
Best song on the album although they all are awesome. Musically and by emotinally great and deep. Marko is my favorite singer in NW of today. His new solo album is so great too.
Miracle of Sound. He makes songs about video games and a lot of them are amazing. Some are metal, frankly he covers a lot of genres but still, you guys should check out his stuff. Listening to Nightwish reminds me of his song "Fires Fade, a song for Dark Souls 3. But this song in particular reminds me of his song "Cataclysm", which was made for the game Destiny. I love that song, it sounds a bit like metal at some points and has like space age music infused into it as well. Might be worth a look. Love your videos, peace guys.
BENFIIIICA!!! Just noticed Glorioso's cap in the background XD I'm not sure if this is my favorite track on the album, but it's one of them, for sure! It's just that the overall package is so good that it's hard to pick one, at least for me. Also, please review the 2nd CD.
Now that this new record is rapped :D maybe go old Tarja shows? in next NW Sundays... for example Nightwish - 10th Man Down (live Summer Breeze 2002) or End Of All Hope from same show
thx for very good reactions and interviews of the band members, you guys are the greatest...just one thing: about the something from nothing...a nothing have never been proven in science,a nothing does not exist in science ,there is allways something;-)lol...anyways,I love your channel , all the best and stay safe.
thanx react this awesome song a and p. i think this song is this album masterpiece number one. very strange that this is the only one song where marco is lead vocalist and yet song is the best this album. i really hope they use marco more next album. ok have great day there both and thanx you react this whole new album. ps. this song have same vibe like this song (In the House, In a Heartbeat, part of the 28 Days Later Soundtrack.) both are masterpiece of course.
Onward to disc 2 please! All in one video if you can. It's fantastic and very relaxing at times. I think Endlessness is the 2nd longest at 7:11 or so, because I think Music is 7:24 roughly.
Im little bit late to this video . First Im most tell: Before this album I was not a huge fan of Nightwish. So after hearing this album with you guys, I was really trying to enjoy it so hard. I like some songs in this album, but not the whole album, sorry Nightwish fans. Instead of rating music with numbers, I can say what songs I like from this album so we are on the positive note of things: Noise, Pan and Endlessness.
No matter how many times I hear this song, no, it isn't clicking :( And rationaly I get why this is a great song, but I'm not getting the emotion connection. I'll keep listening to it, because this has already happened to me before, with nothing more and nothing less than The greatest show on earth (shame on me! But that's life :/
I gotta say......I hope Nightwish will find itself again next time, because this wont get them on bigger stages....I like it, but it is sometimes far from Nightwish sound. Seems that the lyrics were crammed inthere for better or worse.
thank you very much guys!
Sir. Kai Hahto could you talk to Sir Tuomas to give a interview with this guys?? They deserve it! 😁
Thank YOU, Kai! Masterful skin-bashing throughout. 🤘👏

Endlessness is Finnish melancholy put into music. Fantastic song.
The universe is feeling melancholy for everything it sees begin and end.
Doom metal is international and indeed very melancholic.

Beautifully said.
thank you, most eloquent!
I agree with you completely 🖤
My favourite song on the album. That violin at the end is heartbreakingly beautiful.

The opening and closing guitar theme is simply magnificent.

Would you do "How's The Heart (Acoustic version)" and "All The Works Of Nature..." as well?
Yeah, the acoustic version is absolutely great.
yes please, skipping on the works of nature would be a sin, to me its a proper part of the album and even though its not heavy it still hits you, and ad astra is just the perfect ending for it all :)
Thank's guys.A perfect ending to the album(plate 1).The most impressive section when the violins merge into the song and the chorus.
I immediately fell in love with this song, and that haunting ending sends chills up my spine every time. I can't get enough of it. Marko sounds incredible, and then Floor comes in and it's just epic and...and....JOY!
This song sounds very Finnish.
This is so true!
Easily one of the best albums this year!!
This was a perfect song for the background while watching spaceX starting to fly to the space :)
Yeah! I was wondering if the people who manage the Hubble telescope listen this song while are scanning the vast deep space...
Yes... and Ad Astra!
Beautiful thought guys! Respect!
This song gives me chills and tears and a smile every single time. It’s fucking amazing.

Absolutely LOVE this song. Favorite on this album and there are many great ones on it.
I'm a huge fan of Endlessness. The whole album is amazing but this one hits particularly close.
Thank you very intresting analyses and I think you are just right. This is absolutely great song and I hope that they play it also live👍.
I love Ghost Love Score as final song, but now this one will be perfect to end the concerts.

I think the song is about life and death. Someone pointed out that 'the thief' may be referring to 'time' and it feels right.
