Thank you , I have learned a lot from you over the years, still remember reading your words in Biker magazine and many others. Not just motorcycle things, but so very much more. Take care man
it was probably just the valve seals that were leaking. pretty common if it's been sitting up. also you can use compressed air to hold the valves while you take off the locks and springs without pulling the heads. but sounds like youre like me (more time than money) and it gave you something to do that week. always enjoy watching your videos and hope all goes well! much love and respect!
Good stuff Scotty! Thanks for sharing this series. Keeping your bike alive by yourself is so important. I don’t mind paying a mechanic but only when I have to. And honestly the EVO is the last roadside repairable Harley. Be well and ride on!

A little grease will help keep the keeper in place when you put the valve back in. Not at all necessary but it helps me stick them in place with my club hands.
I could watch all 3 videos as 1 scotty. Good informative videos man. Valves look like they could be a pain, imagine doing the m8 heads with 4 valves per head???? Was almost to much power....I should have kept it but had to sell for financial bullshit. I have an 04 road king now with a 95" twin cam. Runs good enough for me at this time. Take care scotty, look forward to see the first fire up on the motor you just did man....
I have all the tools to do the top end (like the valve spring compressor), but I sure would like to have the stuff to true the flywheels. For a non-pro I have a lot of stuff,. that comes with being 69 years old and buying tools over the years.
I always have Marvel Mystery oil with me in the saddle bag. I put a dash of that stuff (MMO) in the gas every time I fill up. I don't know why most people don't do this. It will extend the life of all the top end parts. I keep a small metal bottle of the stuff on me , but buy it a gallon at a time, This is the kind of stuff old farts do and it worked back in the day and still does work. It's sort of like taking a vitamin. It may take years to really see the results.
Nice work old guy LOL, unfortunately where I live I’m looking at about six months of down time for winter. Don’t think I can take it, so probably gonna trailer to AZ for some riding.
Great information Scotty, you got my mind right. One question, why not replace all the rings? And if the valve seat is really fkt up, can the seat be replaced or is the head junk?
@@scootertrampscotty hey good morning Scotty. i am alive but broke my left arm, lost my spleen and got 15 fractures in my head and jaw so i dont have a healthy equilibrium right now. Its gonna be a long recovery.
Awesome video Scotty as always, but you lost me a bit with the red loctite. What were you trying to secure, the rubber seal to the shaft? If so, does loctite really work on rubber? Thanks Scotty!
Yup, thats what i was doing. Those seals dont fit as tight. In fact i had one come off once. Dont know if locktight works or not but a really good mechanic had me do it that way once.
I never knew that an oil control ring could just lose tension even with relatively low miles. I thought you had to have a lot of miles before the oil ring gave up.
