i hope you read this Joey,.... God give you talent not for nothing... use it for make happiness and Joy for human kind peace... when you finger playing your music from your heart... believe it that God speaks on it... God bless you Joey...
Why bitching at drummer Evan? Joey and Evan had great fun playing together. A dot of mistake is normal. But look at their body language between them during the play. Don't we see great communication between them? Jazz is about having fun. No need to argue about it. Jazz is democracy in the music.
Sorry to disappoint you ahah but what I saw was Joey TRYING to have a communication. Sync didn't work :D I enjoyed it anyway, not commenting to point out these things. Anyway.. as I read your comment, I thought that I would give my opinion. The only time when they sync is at 9:43, but happened just by chance, trust me :) Joey is an alien, you need the best musicians in the world to keep up with him
It will never be for the masses...It takes a synthesis of cognitive awareness and the ability to appreciate cognitive dissonance...Pop music requires the opposite...absolutely "Dick and Jane, See Spot Run, " appreciated pablum, a fourth grader could write and the masses accept and reward (See the ever increasing emptiness of the Grammy's)!
Lovely originality in the intro and great interplay by the trio on the Joseph Kosma and Jacques Prévert French tune "Autumn Leaves" with the later English lyric by Johnny Mercer. Joey's exceptional talent seems to delight his band mates as much as his listeners.
Yeah, get some water down you son. And have you remembered to put on your vest? Amazing eh? Human needs met, superhuman talent developing. It's so good to be witnessing this.
I don't know what some people here are saying, frankly. What dispute between the pianist and the drummer? I don't see no such shit. The interplay around the 9-minute mark is beyond awesome, they were mock-battling in a sense, and as a drummer I can tell Evan was giving Joey the highlight, which makes sense considering he's the main star in this performance. As for the look at 2:35, I don't know what that was about but it has nothing to do with the tempo. Tempo was already set by Joey before Evan started playing. Maybe Evan skipped a few bars by mistake? And so what? It didn't sound like a mistake, and that's the beauty of it. Hell, last time I jammed with another musician, we made tons of mistakes that we both knew if it was a professional gig it may as well be the only one for our lifetimes because we f**ked up so many things, without an audience for extra peer pressure to boot. So honestly, I don't know what the hell some of you haters are saying, seriously.
PenguinMcDuck It was his choice of mallets that threw joey for a minute but it wasn't a serious thing. I've watched almost everything Joey's done and he is a perfect gentlemen, he would never give another musician a dirty look for for being incompetent. and evan sherman is anything but incompetent. He's got those harry potter glasses that he keeps on his face by wrinkling his nose too.
joey just awesome... no matter what his nationality, race, age, or religion... because music doesn't have religion, nationality, race or age... he is a gift to this world :D just enjoy it! :D
It's almost as if some piaano jazz master died thinking "I played my ass off and that was all the recognition I got?" SO he decided he was gonna turn some heads this time so he reincarnated into joey alexander, "Wait till they get a load of me this time!"
i guess jazz music must go together ,we can not sy jazz if only one instrument.so all together are perfect match very well ensambel.success to all of you may Gb.
Yes I agree with majr4. The drummers taste and groove is fantastic. The whole band is fantastic. This is spontaneous real music. They have fun. Joey definitely likes the drumming. This is not ovious for everyone.
Evan Sherman, unfortunately you didn’t make the cut. Did you see that look at @2:35? And I agree with him, you’re totally out of step with what he’s doing.
You don't understand jazz, music, that look was a playful look on joeys behalf, that he gave Evan the drummer. Nothing serious in fact if you saw Joey playing with I believe his father, because his dad is a musician also, his dad gave joey that same look which was just playful and he looked like his father when he gave Evan Sherman that look I love jazz myself. So I can understand and I sing and play piano also. Thank for listening Maria.
+Monique DiCarlo - Actually, he is looking at the drummer the same way anyone looks at another person with whom he is coordinating, like a football quarterback looks at his wide receiver, or a baseball pitcher looks at his catcher. They are actually working together, although this escapes the notice of novices like you, who have probably never had the opportunity to jam with other musicians. If you had, you would never had made such an idiotic comment. Boo to you.
PenguinMcDuck Joey almost always sets the tempo and i think he liked the drummer just fine. It's hard when you have the drums right there in the room. He did a good job of keeping the volume down. Joey was enjoying the interplay with the drums. I though Evan did a good job.
You guys are confused. Evan dug every note. Head shaking is in disbelief at the beauty of Joey's playing. Its completely normal. Welcome to the world of jazz
Damn, Alexander's opening solo was gorgeous.
Some cinema paradiso harmonies hidden in this intro?
JOEY ALEXANDER IS A GENIUS ! SOLO IS GORGEOUS ! BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVO !
A black guy, a white guy, a Jewish guy and a kid from Indonesia...making beautiful music together. Maybe there's hope for the world after all.
Beautiful, because, in the end, you listen to music with your ears :)
True :)
Hope is the last thing that die.
Evan is jewish too!
@@SpencerColePorter It is a Jewish gig look at the house
Drummer's taste is AWEsome.....
majr4 I agree
I have never had a piano Jazz Musician make me cry like a baby...But Joey Does...

100 times I’ve watched Joey ,

100% I agree with you..

sometimes the price of democracy is high

The intro is gorgeous: Combination of beauty, sad and tears. That is autumn leaves.
I guess jazz was never meant for the masses but for a lucky few who appreciate true genius.

wonderful autumn leaves.. the trumpet also awesome play!

From 2018 here, enjoying the jam, the drummer in first 5 minutes was not quite my taste tho. Quite a masterpiece for unrehearsed jam!
Joey is wonderful, I think the young trumpet is also great. His name is Alphonso Horne.
great job
luar biasa hebat Joiy sukses selalu

Look at Alphonso on 1:34, completely in trance of Joey's intro... xD

Joey not only has mastered the piano, but the art of vibing.

The drummer's looks over at Joey and's like--"I don't believe this is happening."
Its not the first time he heard Joey play. In the jazz world that is the normal reaction to beauty. Evan is simply digging it. Thats all

That moment at 1:22 when the drummer shakes his head like 'this can't be real...'
