  • Happy Friday! Today is a very beginner-friendly tutorial on how I do my makeup when I'm just living my life, not on camera, but I still want to put in a few minutes and feel pretty. It's all about accentuating what you love most about yourself, so as always, take liberties. I'm also offering some - hopefully - uplifting and practical tips on giving yourself some space, some grace and a moment of self care, because WE ALL NEED IT.

    Here's the hard truth from a middle aged lady: Your employer, largely, doesn't care about you. No one is going to thank you for being a martyr. That said, there are a lot of people who take mental health days to the next level and abuse the system. Somewhere in the middle is the right place to be-- be responsible and reliable, do your best work,, but don't sacrifice your entire well being for your company/career.

    As a stay at home mom I had to start planning my “day off” during the week when the kids are at school and not feel guilty about it. ‘Cause I sure as heck don’t get the weekends off or evenings. ❤️ and letting my spouse have a good rest on the weekends too instead of just feeling disgruntled when they don’t pick up the slack all weekend.

    Totally agree with turning off the notifications and walking away if it’s not bringing you joy. I don’t have teams or any work functions on my phone for exactly that reason. Also, I think the comments on your ice cream cones were not meant to be unkind or take away any of your joy in your art and the gift from your friend - at least, for me, I thought that was the point and that it was cheeky and clever and it brought ME joy! But you have every right to curate your online imprint and you don’t have to explain anything to anyone. Hope you are feeling better 🖤

    This video cam at the right time, my father died early December and it occurred to me how much time I wasted on work, how unimportant all those callls/texts from work were, it feels more peaceful to let that go because in the big scheme of things it’s not that important. Perfectionism was toxic and I let it come between me and precious time with my family. Money and kudos mean nothing when the people you care about most are gone.

    What an incredibly important and wise video! This topic is crucial for man6 people. I am an older woman who is now retired, but I had a long professional life while raising 3 children as a single parent much of that time. I worked hard but not as constantly as I see many young women who are trying to build a career on social media. I had weekends and holidays off. I took mental health days when I was exhausted and depleted. I soundly support this advice!! I admire your work ethic with healthy personal boundaries.

    I so enjoy your pov's on a variety of subjects. And your sense of humor. Today, in particular, struck a chord. We Americans, as a culture and nation, have never been good about doing what we need to do to be healthy -- whether it's actually using the vacation days we are given, or staying home when we are sick, or simply recognizing when our mind and body need a break/day off. So many other countries have institutionalized self-care but we, sadly, have not. And we do have to protect and listen to our own energy, our own hearts - to know what's right for us and pursue it.

Thankfully I am in a work culture now where boundaries are respected.

    Hey Kackie! Ex - bank employee here 🙌🏻and I could not agree more on how often in a work space there are people who don’t have anything, any life out of the work space, so they could stay like FOREVER in a freaking office and make anyone else to stay there too, just without realising that other people do have life apart from work. I remember how heavily I was bullied by my also female boss for going home at 18.00 (at the end of the oficial work day). Hated every minute of my time there.

    • @kackie
      @kackie  2 роки тому +1

      I think a lot about how different life would be if compassion were built into our curriculum. it's not a trait seen as valuable because it doesn't translate directly to anyone's bottom line in a way that's easy to illustrate, but I just think of the millions of dollars that could be saved even just in employee retention if we could be more vulnerable about our needs at work with the confidence that those needs could be accommodated. The one time I "quit" and ended up staying at a job was the only time I felt free enough to tell a manager why she and I had so much friction, and it turned out that she was hurt that I didn't want more leadership opportunities at the company, and I was frustrated because she never trusted my judgment. Turns out she just wanted me to be more like her, and I wanted her to be more like me. When we were able to be honest about our insecurities with one another, we had a great working relationship going forward. But that's not seen as important. Too touchy-feely, soft-skills oriented. The only reason people are unpleasant is because they're unhappy. What if we directly addressed that on an employee-by-employee basis instead of throwing open bar employee "happy" hours? IMAGINE.

    Loved this video and seeing your “everyday” look. I’ve been curious about the other more involved looks you do for your videos - when would you normally wear that kind of makeup? Is that something you actually do for yourself on some days even if you’re just running errands, or is it more for special occasions and, in your case, specifically for your videos? I guess I’m wondering … how much of your makeup usage is just makeup for the fun of it as it relates to your channel, and how much of it bleeds over into your normal lifestyle?

    I love watching your videos. Very recently you used a concealer and when you put it on your forehead, you said something about it being instant Botox. What was that? I can’t find the video again. Hope you feel better soon. Kids are such germ carriers.

    Do you tell your employer you’re taking a mental health day or just take a ‘sick’ day? I feel like mental health is not considered sick.
    I could take 5months of sick leave (with a drs cert.) but if I feel off and need a break I ask for an annual leave day.
