    Hi Kai, great video! I am looking hard at the Montana 700i (the "i" version only because apparently it comes with preloaded turn by turn maps) over the Zumo XT only because of the longer lasting battery. Did you have a chance to test how many hours the 700i can work before shutting down? Is it really 18 hours? I own a Tiger 1200 and a Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled and I would like to buy a navigator which I can use all day without having to keep it wired to the charging cable/battery. I just want to use the navi with its handlebar mount and move it from one bike to the other. I hate wires.. Is the Montana 700i the right one for me? What do you think? Vielen Dank mate!

      I haven’t really challenged the battery, but 18h works only (I guess) with illumination off. Normal usage, maybe 10? But that’s just a guess!

      @@kai-uweoch1159 I have ordered the 700i. If it lasts, fine, otherwise I will wire it. I have zero experience in Garmin devices: what should I use to create a turn by turn route with indications? My test so far: device was a friend's Zumo XT. I used Myrouteapp gold, selected "Here" maps and created a route, then copied it to the tracks folder of the Zumo (no apps used, just copy/paste). I managed to see the track in red on the device, but navigation did not start. He did not calculate anything. Is it because that route was, in reality, only a "track" and needed to be converted in some way by some app?

      @@FrancescoColucci1 If it’s in the tracks folder it will be used by the Montsna only as a track. Those units cannot internally cslculate a route from a track - don’t ask me why. I think that’s a feature G reserves for the road navigation devices, like the zumos. Basecamp software can do that. Please see my latest video for some more info on tracks and routes!

      @@FrancescoColucci1 did you turn on the CN navigation software?

    • @francescocolucci6508

      @@Hemmer1 If by "software" you mean having the CN maps set to ON, yes. Another example: I tried also to have the Montana navigate me home from less than 1 km away (I was walking). He calculated the route correctly, but when I purposedly took another road, it did not recalculate the route. Plus, Basecamp will not work properly on both of my Macs. I have returned it and I am thinking of using only Osmand+ on either a smartphone with a big screen or a Samsung Tab Active.

    Merci d’avoir publié ce vidéo bien réalisé. Je dois installer mon nouveau Montana 700i sur mon Outlander et sur ma motoneige. Je n’aurais jamais su où trouver les informations que vous présentez. Salutations du Québec.

    Hi! Nice video! Can you share the pin identification for the 12v in the cradle? Thank you!

    Do you happen to know if the AMP mount voltage converter draws power when the Montana is out of the mount? Thanks.

    • @kai-uweoch1159
      @kai-uweoch1159  2 роки тому +1

      This is actually a good question! The problem now is that the original voltage converter died shortly after the one year warranty expired. Garmin wanted it to be sent back to them. A new universal voltage converter (in 6...20V, out 5V/3A) was not more than 10€, so instead of long discussions with Garmin I bought that one and installed it on the existing cradle. I have no idea how the circuit in those converters works, but I guess (!) that they always draw a little current, even without the GPS in place. So it's a good idea to install it on an ignition switched 12V source.

      @@kai-uweoch1159 Thank you sir. Sorry to hear yours had an issue. Good call connected it to a switched source and that's what I'll do.

      Those connectors are used widely in vehicle applications, they are called "superseal" and are available in different pin connections, from 1 to... I think 5. If correctly assembled they are entirely waterproof. For the one on the bike I recommend to build a blind plug, to close it up when you don't connect anything to it. www.12voltplanet.co.uk/superseal-waterproof-connector-pair-2-way-1-5-series.html

      Bist du mehrere Tage oder Wochen unterwegs und noch dazu ohne Stromanschluss muss eine Spannungsversorgung vom Motorrad erfolgen. Oder meinst du spezifisch den Halter fürs 700? Ich hab nicht nachgemessen welche Spannung tatsächlich an den Kontakten anliegt, vermute aber mal 5V wie von USB. Und die Stromversorgung über die USB Buchse zu machen ist keine Alternative: nicht wasserdichtvund mechanisch zu anfällig!
