Well I learned something new. I grew up watching Ernest in the 90s both movies and the tv show, but I never knew the character started off as an ad gimmick. There was something about Jim Varney, not just as Ernest, that makes it hard not to smile regardless of the character.
My mom remembered and told me that at about 2 years old, I used to watch "Hey Vern, It's Ernest". I would get close to the huge TV screen as if Ernest would talk to me(he's only talking to Vern lol). I miss him a whole lot now, not knowing he had movies of his own.
before he played Ernest he stared in the short-lived 1983 NBC series "The Rousters" which ran against ABC's "The Love Boat" (though the Love Boat still managed to hold it's ground).
I hope y’all will reply to this two of the stations Ernest advertised was the NBC affiliate in Houston Texas KPRC 2 in one commercial he was with the late Ron Stone who was the anchorman on weekdays and the ABC affiliate in Baton Rouge Louisiana WBRZ 2
The world misses him so much.
He was a national treasure and by far had the cleanest rap sheet in Hollywood. If only they were all like Jim.
