Fun fact: chronologically, this is the 3rd movie. The 2nd movie was "Knuckled Up" which was in production immediately after the 1st movie but was not released until 1995
Knuckle Up ran into distribution issues post production and wasn’t able to be released until after Kick Back which caused the movies timelines to be somewhat off. That’s why the boys are younger and with the OG cast in Knuckle Up but older in Kick Back with Rocky and TumTum being replaced.
What are your rankings in terms of the 4 movies? I hate doing this, but 3 Ninjas, Kick Back, High Noon, and then Knuckle Up for me, just because High Noon has the American legend and treasure: Ernest.
Just so everyone knows, in context, this movie was really cool back in the day, because of how martial arts were seeping into the main stream culture. How every kid dreamed of being some kind of ninja. Very cool movie back in the day.
The director, Shin Sang-ok, was kidnapped by Kim Jung-Il(who fancied himself a film buff) in 1978, along with his ex-wife Choi Eun-hee, and forced to make propaganda films for North Korea for 8 years before they were able to escape. The most well known of these films is a Godzilla rip-off called Pulgasari.
@@twig8523 It was at the very least quite the fall for a man who in the 1960s was known as “the prince of South Korean cinema” Forgot to mention up above that as part of making Pulgasari, North Korea kidnapped a number of members from Toho Studios (the studio that made the Godzilla movies) and forced them to help with the special effects for Pulgasari. Basically they thought they were boarding a plane to China to work a movie there…and then the plane landed in Pyongyang instead. They were allowed to return to Japan once Pulgasari’s effects were done.
as a kid, loved 3 ninjas. family enrolled us all into martial arts classes during that craze. I still remember I a did highlight kick to my cousin, before it was called a highlight kick hahaha good times
Grandpa's ninja gear in the first movie is so silky and comfortable looking. Wearing this outfit must feel like when you run out of nice underwear and have to go back to your last pair of old Hanes.
I mean 3 Ninjas Whole Playbook as a Franchise was to take Aspects of Home Alone and forcibly Mate Them with the Martial Arts from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. that's literally it. Looks like they might have thrown some Goonies into this one too.
I wish they had made another one like 10 to 15 years later where Rocky and Miyo have kids and those kids wind up fighting bad guys like dad and their uncles.
-K-pop or not, the soundtrack slaps. -Karate Kid 2, Rush Hour 2, by rule the sequel always has to take them to Asia. They aren't loveable. -Best thing is the ninja tourney, and Colt basically walking right in and fighting his way to the Semis with no prep. Hashtag BestKid -Miyo > Emily
A little piece of fun trivia. This is actually the 3rd movie. Part 2 had the same rocky and tum tum in it but got released straight to video. Don't know why 3 got a bigger budget and theatrical release but there you go
Kick Back was actually intended to be the third film, hence Colt's growth spurt and the recasting. Knuckle Up was supposed to be the sequel, but anyone who has seen KNUCKLE UP knows why they decided to go with KICK BACK instead. The first 3 ninjas is my fav, but I do have fond memories of a ten year old me watching KICK BACK repeatedly. My fav scene is when COLT fights the ninja in the tournament, gets his ass kicked, and then said ninja is revealed to be.....wait for it.....A GIRL. lol

She's literally a martial artist probably from the time she could walk and she lives in a country where baseball has been popularised since 1872 or thereabouts. You cannot tell me that someone with the kind of reflexes it requires to perform martial arts, in a country whose third most popular modern sport is baseball, would be this bad at catching a fucking ball. This isn't about baseball. Pretty sure it's a dig at stereotypes surrounding women. Also women baseball teams have been a thing forever. Actually that "they have to show us they train" isn't that far off from the reality of situation. Hatsumi the old fraud has a lot to answer for. "A true ninja is free from all desire. I always felt like 3 Ninjas series owes alot to Little Dragons aka The Karate Kids which is an early Curtis Hanson( long before LA Confidental & 8Mile) directed flick with Joe Spinell as a villain
That Korean singer is Seo Taiji and the dude was/is a big deal in Korea. He was known as the President of Culture/youth. He and his group Seo Taiji and the Boys debuted in Japan in 1993 around when this movie was made. So, it maybe legit that his song is in here like it is and not the work of some sleazy, ignorant executive.
Love the channel, great content. Please oh pretty please do JCVD's Kickboxer. He literally fights in a thong at the end, with glass on his hands, in a thong! It also has an epic training sequence and a drunk JCVD dancing at a bar. Need I say more? It must be done. lol
13:51-14:07 There's no need to "overthink" anything. They THOUGHT they had to choose because they didn't account for the different time zones. They made a mistake. This is not hard to understand.
Where's my fish where's my fish? it's dead gotta get a new fish. In the early to mid 90's Japan had a KPop fad. Seo Taiji and Boys is one of the most popular k pop bands from that time. Think Korean New kids on the block. Funny thing Seo Taiji also was in a rock band that sounded a lot like a Korean Korn. Check out the song Internet War and you'll understand what I mean. This movie is goofy but I love it. The third and forth movies are bad, really bad. Why was Jim Varney the bad guy against Hulk Hogan?
The funny thing about how ninjas trained in these movies is it’s more like gym class than any martial arts class. Ninjas all hung up their shirts in embarrassment at their portrayal in movies. Worse stereotype than being a stormtrooper.

Hollywood was always good about being racially fluid with Asian actors. They made Victor Wong play a Japanese character when he's Chinese-American. These 3 Ninja films let me know my childhood was over. I remember liking the first film and I got the Ninja Turtle bug too. As the Ninjas films came out I started feeling like they were more dumb. And I was completely turned off by Power Rangers, and I knew in those moments, I was growing up. Lol
3 Ninjas Kick Back is my second least favorite out of the 3 Ninjas movies. Like it's better than High Noon on Mega Mountain, but not much. The only thing I can't stand in the movie is the actor who played Tum Tum, I thought he was annoying. I thought the actor from the first one and Knuckle Up was better. I didn't watch the movie as a kid, I watched it back in 2007.
I never noticed it before this vid but damn this movie was trying to surpass Power Rangers in the "Hyahh!" count... I actually re-watched this movie recently and while I admit it isn't a great one I actually still like it a bit, I even like it more than the first film.
Gah. UA-cam really hates comments on kid movies for some reason. Sorry gang. Comments are back on!
Steven Segal is to blame!
