Hi I just like to say what a fantastic video you did a very good job thank you for showing as the video spend testiq I've just bought myself 3 of those roses but minus maula so I can't wait to next year but thank you again and keep up the good work😍😍❤❤👍
glad you liked the video! good luck with the 3 new standard roses! When you plant the rose, make sure you put in a very sturdy stake right up to the "collar" (where the branches start branching out) . When it grows up the 'standard' ball shape can make your rose top-heavy and unstable and it can easily topple over completely. You leave the stake in place for the life of the rose. A stake will make sure they stay nicely upright and in a nice architectural line.
The flowers on one of my standard roses is very leggy, though its blocked by a new extension next door might be why,I cut my standards right back in Winter, they always come back and flower,im in Northern England
Ian, more often than not, standard roses are leggy because they are not getting enough light. Roses need six hours of sunshine in their growing period to flower well. If they don't have enough sunshine they will search up to try and find more.
If the shade is from another plant or tree, you could prune it back. If you can't improve the light, then do more severe flowers cutting and dead heading ( ie cut longer stems back). Or next winter you could move it to another spot with more sun... All the best
@@Gardenosophy cheers mate,it seems to flower well but the stalks are long, looks a bit odd haha, will follow your advice, thanks again for replying🌹🌹🌹👍🏻👍🏻

Excellent! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it. Standard roses are a real feature in the garden and need slightly different approach when pruning.
