For a KH fan Vector to the Heavens (original or no) is one of the most emotionally charged both themes in the series. The original is a byword for pure tragedy, while this version feels like catharsis, or vindication. Like all the tragedy is being purged, and everything good is being vindicated. Xion's boss fight is arguably the toughest in KH3 and this theme fits.

Exactly. Original is fighting to the death with your best friend who knows they're dead either way. This feels like a no holds barred sparring match where at the end of it, you heal each other up, brush the dust off and laugh together no matter who wins, with the other going "I'll get you next time" with a big grin on their face
It's rivaled by Roxa's fight in KH2, this is that fight but two fold, a friend fighting a friend, to bring them back, it's something this game knows how to do well.

"There's a lot of emotion in this song" is a really good way to put it, considering the character whose theme this is, has one of the most emotional arcs in the franchise. Love to see your reactions, keep it up!

This is played when you fight Xion in the dlc of kh3. The dlc has around 14 or 15 bosses where you fight basically the strongest version of that character and all their themes got amazing remixes for these fights.
It's 14 Superbosses in total, the 13 Limit Cut/Data Battles + the Secret Boss (Yozora).
I highly encourage you to listen to the Arrangement of Vector to The Heavens from the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour Album at some point. Square Enix likes to have live concerts and make various albums with new arrangements of their songs. Regardless of a recorded reaction, I think you should hear the Kingdom Hearts Piano Collections albums and the Orchestra Concert albums. Some of the best arrangements of the series are on there.
It's a prime example of how the KH soundtrack takes melodies, completely recontextualizes them, and gives you something new. You reacted to something from a previous KH game, "Musique," if you listen to them side by side they're the same melody
“Is that a French horn in my ears? “ tickled the middle of my brain for some reason. There are a lot of negative things people can say about KH, it’s OST is not at all on that list. Yoko’s ability to encapsulate characters via composition, then seamlessly weave and remix that encapsulation is unrivaled in modern gaming music.

Fun fact: this has another character’s theme hidden within it. Specifically that of Kairi, with whom Xion is intrinsically linked.
It also includes one of the main motifs of the series, Dearly Beloved.
What’s crazy is that there’s bits and pieces of a lot of different other songs in this one. A lot of them connected to the character who you’re fighting that is being actively forgotten as you fight them.
The character isn’t human, she isn’t even the type of not-human that the main character is. She’s a puppet. She wants to be remembered. She wants to live, but knows she can’t. Forcing the main character to fight her is the right thing to do, but it will completely erase her existence from everyone’s memory. Including the two friends she holds so dear, one being the main character.
358/2 days is by far my favorite kingdom hearts game and this song makes my heart ache so much. The first time I beat her in middle school I closed my DS and straight up cried for an hour. It was such an emotional battle. Yoko Shimomura did such an excellent job on it

This is supposed to be an intense, violent version of the melody to a depressing storyline that builds up through a whole KH spin-off. I'd say Yoko friggin nailed it.

Did you recognise anything about the theme? Maybe not because you listen to so much music now. You already listened to a song about the charakter Xion (Musique Pour La Tristesse De Xion) a few days ago and the theme is implemented in this song. That song was a sad scene with her. This song is a fight against her.
This is so well done.. Xion's story is arguably one of the saddest and most heartbreaking in all of Kingdom Hearts and in this song you can almost hear the sadness, but also theres an overwhelming sense of desperation.. and struggle.

The rock music parts are unique to the KH3 arrangement, and this track is interesting because Xion isnt a boss in the main game, only as an optional superboss in the DLC expansion.

Also the melody is the same as her theme you listened to before. That was her character theme, this is her boss theme.
If you ever have 3 hours to spare, I recommend sitting down and watching 358/2 Days. While you won’t have the context of the previous games, you don’t really need it to get gut punched in the feels.

As others have said, you really need to hear the original, the energy is similar but different, much more somber, a battle fought while crying, the DS version, or the minor remix thats on KH1.5 both work for that
Meanwhile, since you love Yoko Shimomura's work(who doesn't), check out In The Final/The Grand Finale from Bowser's Inside Story, a track where she goes all in on the energy she uses in a lot of KH songs for a goddamn Mario game(Yoko did the music for all the Mario&Luigi entries)

This is my absolute favorite piece of music in the series. The OG version takes place in what is arguably the most tragic boss fight in the whole series. Your main character has to fight his best friend to the death. This song is incredibly unique to me because it captures a deep sadness, while also making me pumped for an absolutely badass boss fight. This remix for KH3 with live instruments brings the emotions to an all time high.

This is the best version of this song. Powerful, strong, desperate, sad and lonely, mixes of hope and despair all roled into a single song. Nothing could be more fitting for Xion, this is her existence played out in the form of music.

I call this the theme of fighting through tears
I was honestly not prepared for 358/2 Days to rip my feelings out and slap me across the face with em.
A remix of "Vector to the Heavens" originally from "Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days" on the DS. The original is great, too, but has a completely different feel to it. The quiet part near the loop has a reference to the main theme of the series "Dearly Beloved" played on the piano. This version was arranged by Yuki Kishida.
When I first reached this boss (second or third-to-last in the game depending on a choice you make), I was not prepared for this music and the insane difficulty of the boss itself. Part of the reason it was so hard was because the music was making me cry so much that I couldn't see the screen. This is tied with two other tracks from the same game as my favorite boss track in the series, the other two are "Dawn of Hope" (plays for an important late-game fight) and "Nachtflügel" (the true final boss song).
The characters on the cover are Sora and Kairi.
I'm so glad and happy that you do what you do on this channel and actually give music from videogames attention because a lot of people do not really care or...notice stuff like this while playing and you actually analyze every song and bring this closer to us. I have a huge respect about you

This character theme is incredible and I can already imagine you enjoyed it!
Personally I think the track "Hearts As One" is a better culmination of Xion's arc. It's supposedly the theme for when you fight Saïx during the climax, but it's better described as the theme for when Saïx fights *you.* It's entirely remixed from Roxas, Xion, and Axel's themes (with a bit of Sora) and absolutely none of his normal boss theme. These three friends have finally reunited after 10 years (or like a week in-game) and their themes sound triumphant for the first time.
This definitely isn't the first song in KH with electric guitar, the opening movie for the second game has a pretty prevalent electric focus. This game had a mostly orchestral ost but in the dlc that featured this song, they revamped all the character specific themes with all sorts of influences on top of the already beautifully orchestrated pieces they already had. What makes this song feel like such a contrast is, (as most people have said before me) that the original version of this song was heart wrenching and sad as its the theme to a character's death, but here its full of energy and intensity as its one of the most difficult fights in the game. Even this character's voice lines during battle are full of screams, some even seem to be in pain, while the leap at you with a devastating attack at high speeds.
I remember when i first started the fight and heard the music i was so moved by how perfectly it encapsulates everything Xion (pronounced "She-own") is feeling, i actually felt kind of bad for fighting her haha
A quote from Xion (pronounced as She-on) that puts this fight music into perspective. Upon player loss (and it'll be a frequent occurrence because she's a postgame superboss): "You're going back to where I belong."
Xion is a character that doesn't want to win, but doesn't have a choice about whether to fight or how hard she tries. More than even the other Nobodies of Organization XIII Number XIV, Xion, should not exist, and she is the most aware of that fact.

(I know this is a late reply, but...) Just to clear one thing up, or rather correct one small thing, Xion is not a clone of Sora, she was created as a blank/faceless Replica (not literally out of memories, just with a copied piece inserted into her), not meant to imitate/replicate a person, only to copy the Keyblades power. She just started absorbing Sora's memories at some point, through Roxas.
I love a lot of kingdom hearts songs. honestly so many games and JRPG's and such have great music. Persona is one of these. or dragon quest. Id recommend songs from either of those series all day
This remix of "Vector to the Heavens" is undeniably kickass and captures the essence of the original version very well, but I dearly hope you do get the chance to hear the original version. I'll probably always feel that the og version captures the tragedy at the heart of the song the best, but that's probably just bc it's the piece of music that's inextricably tied to the tragic scenes in question, so that original version will always be seared into my memory as a result. Like, you're playing this game, and you as Roxas have spent all this time becoming best friends with Xion, only to have the rug pulled out from under you in the end, and be forced by circumstances outside of the control of either of you to fight her to the death. You wouldn't forget that first version of "Vector to the Heavens" you heard in a hurry either ;P Basically, the og version of this song is quieter and more somber (as that more bombastic guitar was added to this remix), and it also matches better imo with Roxas's "The Other Promise", which is another boss theme that contrasts with the usual more high energy tone of typical boss music with more of that quiet, aching grief and sadness, as both of the best friends met a tragic fate.
But again, there is no version of Vector that's bad, so I'm glad you've finally gotten to hear it! Hope you continue to enjoy your journey through KH music! :)
As far as tragic fates go they got pretty lucky. After all their suffering they went back to where they belong, and he was kind enough give them their own lives because he felt they deserved to live them.
Nobody would've questioned it if Roxas and Xion were given permadeath, they were a Nobody and stolen memories reintegrated with the Original. If they were reduced to just echoes of will, memories, and emotions within Sora and left to be his cross to bear we all would have still been fine with that. Sora is hardly prone to malice or envy, the Darkness in his heart has always come from the suffering he couldn't help and the suffering from which he was the cause.
Arranged by Yuki Kishida, but I'm not very familiar with him yet. So this plays in one of the 14 superbosses in KH3. And what's _really_ interesting is that they brought in 4 "guest arrangers" to create boss themes for 13 of the superbosses. Guess what, Kishida is one of the two arrangers who had _never_ worked on KH music officially before. Yes that's right, this is one of Kishida's *first* works in the series.

I'm going to be honest, I've never seen your channel before. I'm just a huge KH fan. Vector's probably my favorite song. I'd definitely check out the original version (well, the remastered version of the original suffices. That you'll find as being from KH1.5). Honestly, there's so much good music in KH, that it's hard to go wrong.
For the record, it's pronounced Shee-on. The Xi in Japanese is pronounced "She"

I've never played any Kingdom Hearts games, so I don't know the full story behind this song, but it's one of my favorite songs of all time. I could listen to it for hours on end (and occasionally do just that).
I don't know if anyone has requested it already but Rage Awakened is one of my favorite KH tracks played in one of the hardest boss battles and it fits it perfectly, I think you'd really enjoy it.

It might be a bit hard to hear in this remix of the song, but this has the same baseline melody as "Musique Pour La Tristesse De Xion" which you reacted to before. That's because both song are related to the same character- Xion
You should check out Kyle Landry’s arrangement of ‘Musique pour la Tristesse de Xion’ , it is one of Xion’s themes so it has shared leitmotifs and his arrangement is by far the best and most emotive solo piano I have ever heard.

Xion is my favourite character in the series. Easily the closest KH gets to horror too imo. Its tragic.
Her story alone makes 358/2 days my favourite of the games and im wishing a remake can happen so its not stranded on the DS.
But this rendition from KH3 Remind is perfect and bring up all the same feelings the original had for me. Playing that superboss i cant help but be back in twilight town as roxas.

Highly recommend you check out the kh2.5 version of vector to the heavens which is the original orchestra version. As much as I love the kh3 soundtrack a lot of these songs are remixes which are reconceptualised for a game which is more combat orientated as it is the end of a saga. This is very apparent with vector to the heavens as the original captures the emotional story importance of the fight whereas this version of the song is for an optional boss fight that isn't part of the story, thus the inclusion of the more rock elements such as the drums as the fight is more about the challenge and the combat. It's amazing how Yoko is able to change the composition of these songs to match their purpose in the game but I would recommend listening to the originals from 1.5 or 2.5 before the kh3 version at least for some of the songs which have been remixed for a changed purpose. Great reaction all the same!

As others have likely said, this version of the song is a rearrangement used in Xion's[pronounced She-on]data battle in Kingdom Hearts 3's DLC.
It is one of multiple rearrangements made for the DLC data battles, and one of MANY rearrangements in KH3 as a whole. The original Vector to the Heavens from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days[358 Days Over 2]is essentially the final boss theme of that game.

Xion (she-on) is a replica (clone) of Sora the main character and his memories of Kirai and she is the 14th Member of Organization 13th she was made to replace Roxas the 13th member if he couldn't be controlled by them but the two became close friends and a lot of things happened and Roxas was forced to kill Xion and everyone forgot her but though some time hacks the new Organization brought her back as a puppet with no memories however with Roxas's help you save Xion

Cool choice! 😄 But there are another versions of this, much better I think. For example, the bossfight with Saïx in kh3 that remixes Vector to the Heavens and the Other Promise (unfortunately I don't know the ost name).

Something interesting about this arrangement, the original was trapped on the DS. While the melody is just as good there hearing it with full orchestration really adds to this piece.
I think it's a lot better to listen to the original before listening to the KH3 version. As others have mentioned, the original is tragedy while this one is about vindication or about cleansing the past tragedy which revolved around this character.

Weirdly enough, my favorite version of this song is still the original one from the DS even though it sounds very crunchy.
This arrangement is the only true rock-style song I can think of in Kingdom Hearts, so it certainly stands out for both style and implementation. I would like to hear some more rock pieces in Kingdom Hearts. Personally, though, I have a bit of a thing against synthesized music-no offense, I simply believe that music is and should be an emotional expression and thus should be performed by people-so as awesome as this sounds, it's far from taking the cake for me.
My personal favorite Kingdom Hearts song is "Overture to the Decisive Battle" from Kingdom Hearts Orchestra -World of Tres-. It's basically a medley of all the endgame boss battle themes in KH3, in that they actually took this recording, cut it into segments, and edited those segments to loop for the actual game. It doesn't have that rock feel, nor any guitars (unfortunately), but certainly a good bit of emotion and variety.
This song was the entire reason I bought Kh 358/2 days

The tone contrasts greatly with the official Vector to the Heavens Orchestral version (which I highly recommend).

It is absolutely incredible that you'd describe the music as reversed, because to put it as simply as possible, the "villian" group in this game are the reverse of what the monsters in original Kingdom Hearts are

Don't worry yourself, though. Lots of Kingdom Hearts characters have weird names. Like the main villain, Xehanort (rhymes with "play a sport").
