This actualy does help! Whenever I'm about to go on stage for a performance or out on the football feild for marching band, I tell myself "I just can't wait to get out there and show them what I got!" and it actually shifts my mindset towards confidence.

That’s an amazing change of perspective. In the German language we use the same word for being anxious or excited before a performance: "aufgeregt" (so it has both the negative and the positive connotation). For that reason it helped a lot to make a difference between both emotions through the language, so I can now make it actively into a positive emotion. Thank you!

This is so incredible, I have severe anxiety and I always have however, when I was younger and more optimistic I always confused the heightened emotion with excitement. So before any type of performance I would literally always tell my mom “don’t worry I not nervous I’m just excited!” And I’m sure it helped because I really believed it 😂 Great video!!

Thank you David. Finding these skills can be difficult for people with severe anxiety. But when you provide them with these tools FOR FREE they can actually try applying it whenever they end up in rough situations. My trick for not feeling anxious is to be fully prepared for whatever I do or perform in. If I feel like I've done everything in my power to prepare for any task, presentation etc then I am unstopable. I really think that you should mention preparation as a sub-tool in handling anxiety. It really is key to everything. Everything is only as good as your preparation.

Dude thanks for always helping me. I am very shy and as quite as the universe itself when I'm around large groups of people (especially when some people focus on me only). I really like to talk to people I know but if I ask a classmate I don't know that well something I get anxious because "what if they secretly hate me and are nice to me because they want to make fun of me for believing them that they like me or what if they get angry because I asked for help and what if... what if..." and so on. So it helps even more to improve my public speaking skills so I get more confident.

This is interesting and might probably work for some people.
But I have a different opinion about this.
The difference between "I'm anxious" and "I'm excited" is not just my interpretation of them but actually the causes and how I'm actually feeling.
You see, when you are excited or anxious it sure has some similar symptoms like increased hurt rate or breathing or maybe even sweating...
But that's just the byproduct of what's really going on on a psychological level. When something is actually exciting I get so joyful and can't wait to do it. Not because I convinced myself that "I'm excited" it simply is. And something unpleasant won't be just fine on its own. I get that you might cover the actual feeling and pull yourself out of it to focus on something to get a better results but if you are really aware of your emotions and the reasons behind them, you won't be able to lie to yourself and fake an emotion.
I'm saying all of this from a true experience.
Once I was in a college I wasn't passionate about with subjects I'm not interested in. And I had a test that I did not study for and I was so anxious that I'm going to fail. I was anxious from the test and the results of the test when they would be announced. It was a very unpleasant experience and there is no way in hell I would be able to lie to myself and tell myself that I'm excited.
On the other hand, I'm now in a new major that I'm so passionate about and I'm super into what I'm studying and I had so much joy in the exams and now I'm waiting for my results on a lava pool of sheer excitement
