Xanthum yellow (sometimes called xanthic yellow) is a shade of yellow so highly saturated it can catch and appear to absorb light from other objects, creating an effect where people view xanthic colored things as green-yellow, green, or yellow depending on what's around it. It's also one of the colors colorblind people struggle with the most, as colorblind people have a noted difficulty with super-saturated colors. It's why the "are tennis balls yellow?" conversation from one of the other episodes got so confusing for people. Not only is it picking up light from the grass around it, tinting it green to your eyes, it's also specifically a color someone with colorblindness would struggle to classify (and Sean is mild protanopic colorblind).

I’ll admit to being heavily biased, since I’ve been watching Seán, who then introduced me to Ethan, for quite some time now.
Having said that, if Brain Leak had been my introduction to both of them, I think I’d be just as enamored with their genuine friendship, earnest chemistry and natural flow of conversations as I am now.

As a person that has chronic migraines, most people have such little understanding of how bad migraines can be and that it's more than "just a headache."
A little fact not everyone knows...hell, I didn't know til my neurologist informed me....but you can have a migraine without the severe pain. I get them a lot...it's not severe pain, more like a regular headache...but still localized to one area. However, I still have the light and noise sensitivity, and the nausea that goes along with it. When I told my neurologist I experienced this, she said those are also migraine.
To be clear, I also get the migraines with the excruciating pain. The worst ones are when I wake up in pain like that...ugh.
And I have soooo many triggers for my migraines. :( It's probably easier to list what doesn't trigger migraines, at this point.
Also, my brother had a migraine located in the back of his head once and it was so bad he had temporary amnesia for 3 days. Scary af. Thankfully, I've note experienced that. I have definitely had the aphasia though, from migraines. Awful feeling.
ALSO....I am in a similar situation wrt meds that I cannot take. I did get the botox injections (once every 3 months) and it significantly reduced the frequency of my migraines (from multiple times a day for 5-6 days a week down to twice a week). I now take Emgality, which is an injection I give myself monthly, and it works just as well.
This makes sense bc I though the same until Sean said it and I saw your comment- I always thought just horrific pain which I do get sometimes but almost weekly and sometimes daily I get the effects of vision and brain fog that I didn't connect to migraines so I feel you on this
Botox has been a lifesaver for me! I had ~25-30 migraine days a month and now have about 5
50 episodes, wow. I listen to them while working, it's amazing how they can help the time fly by.

THIS!! I went to an aquarium when I was little and they displayed a MASSIVE stingray like probably like 10+ feet wide "wing" span, it's crazy! Now I love them so much even the tiny little ones!

My mum has hemiplegic migraines, they’re one of many forms of dysfunctional migraines, the ones with aphasia are another kind . She gets botox in her scalp and forehead every 3 months and its been life changing x
Also, there’s a lovely preventative shot you get once a month called Emgality that I take and a medicine you take at the onset of a migraine called Imitrex. They’ve been life changing
31:25 I have asthma and was taking propranolol for migraines for a while. My asthma is extremely reactive and sensitive and I had no problems with propranolol. When migraines are severely affecting your life, it’s worth trying

My favorite way to fall asleep quickly is to tell myself a simple short story, kind of like a fable. I tend to do one that involves a frog for some reason. A cute little cartoon frog that goes on adventures, and I fall asleep in about 60 seconds. 😂

As someone that gets migraines almost monthly or more, ive found puking somehow helps and then i take sleeping meds and sleep through it as much, cant see out of my left eye its like a static tv for my vision, but ive never experience the days of foggyness, but i usually has a mild headache for the next day or so

So I started having migraines when I was 6. That led to us finding a brain cyst that was pushing on my eye and had a shit ton of blood vessels in it. Got that removed, still had migraines. Had to have a plate and screw removed (screw was backing out) still have migraines. THANK YOU for explaining how debilitating migraines can be. My own parents who were there when I had my surgeries and my first migraines, don’t think they’re that bad. I don’t have aura with mine, so they literally just come out of nowhere. I started this injection medication that has really helped, but that just means when I do get one it’s ROUGH. Migraines suck.

Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, Lions have tended to win in a fight with Tigers, as they frequently wrestle and contest with others in a pride, whereas the tiger is solitary in nature, and thus does not attain the same combat experience as a lion.
My friend had a lot of the same symptoms as Jack and then she eventually found out she had a small brain cyst and has a shunt now. She’s mostly doing better! But I’m glad he’s seen neurologists and getting MRIs to check!

7:00 “Woke” was a term used by the left long before it was used by the right. Particularly, I believe it came from black American culture to describe someone who was aware of the oppression they faced, was “woke” to the racism and other cultural and identity oppression they face based purely on their skin color on a daily basis. It was co-opted by the right to become an insult. It’s silly to try to use it as an insult. It was meant to be a good thing.
The amount of irony inherent to the language, actions, and attitude of right wing extremism (or any extremist movement really), is so abundant that I find it to be simultaneously hilarious and perhaps the most unfunny thing I’ve ever experienced.

Sean the shimmery effects for ocular migraines are called visual snow! It’s often reported from people with ADHD and other mental disorders. I’ve had it since I was really little and I had no idea that it wasn’t normal.

I feel Seán's pain for the migraines so hard. They were chronic when I was a teen, messing up my vision in the exact same way he described.
It wasn't until recently that I realized that most of my migraines were caused from being overstimulated because of AuDHD, which honestly explains why it doesn't happen to me as often anymore since I work from home.
The only way I can curb those migraines is by taking 3 Tylenols as soon as I notice minor discrepancies in my vision.

My understanding of Trinity falling in love with Neo was because the oracle told her she would fall in love with the one. Just like how Neo wouldn't have broken the vase if she hadn't said anything. In the Boston Aquarium I was so stoked to see the Sea Turtle. It was magnificent. Swimming around the giant middle tank. I kept a photo of it as my desktop background for like 2 years.
I had that type of migraine back in middle school. The first time I actually thought I would permanently lose my vision. That was scary af. Luckily that only happened twice and since then I haven't had it again.
I used to have migraines. I like to say I grew out of them, because that's way less embarrassing than "I'm Autistic and I kept forgetting to drink water, so my brain was in physical agony"

I started going grey in college, was completely grey by early 30s. It's super cool right now, let it grow out and then do a blue/purple rinse to make it super silver, sleek, and awesome.
Honestly grey is so attractive. I think Jack would look awesome, all grey. He's always going to be in his twenties to me 🐢

I'm also an ocular migrane "victim". Its prettu weird and i've noticed just being in a dark enviorment and taking a pain killer helps
I used to get the thing where I couldn't read and it was just white dots in the middle of my vision and in my peripherial vision, it usually went away if I ate or slept but terrifying

I have the same kind of migraines as Sean. I usually have body parts going numb including arms, legs, teeth, nose. (Just depends one the day ig lol) I remember one time not being able to speak properly and I genuinely thought I was having a stroke. And since then I have to remind myself over and over not to panic. I hate migraines with a burning passion.
I remember buying the first Matrix on VHS and watching it about 40 times in first 2 weeks of owning it lol
