CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Helen Hirsch (Embeth Davidtz) describes to Schindler (Liam Neeson) what it is like to be the Jewish housemaid to Commandant Amon Goeth.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on a true story, Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List stars Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, a German businessman in Poland who sees an opportunity to make money from the Nazis' rise to power. He starts a company to make cookware and utensils, using flattery and bribes to win military contracts, and brings in accountant and financier Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley) to help run the factory. By staffing his plant with Jews who've been herded into Krakow's ghetto by Nazi troops, Schindler has a dependable unpaid labor force. For Stern, a job in a war-related plant could mean survival for himself and the other Jews working for Schindler. However, in 1942, all of Krakow's Jews are assigned to the Plaszow Forced Labor Camp, overseen by Commandant Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes), an embittered alcoholic who occasionally shoots prisoners from his balcony. Schindler arranges to continue using Polish Jews in his plant, but, as he sees what is happening to his employees, he begins to develop a conscience. He realizes that his factory (now refitted to manufacture ammunition) is the only thing preventing his staff from being shipped to the death camps. Soon Schindler demands more workers and starts bribing Nazi leaders to keep Jews on his employee lists and out of the camps. By the time Germany falls to the allies, Schindler has lost his entire fortune -- and saved 1,100 people from likely death. Schindler's List was nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won seven, including Best Picture and a long-coveted Best Director for Spielberg, and it quickly gained praise as one of the finest American movies about the Holocaust.

"It's alright. It's not that kind of a kiss." I think my heart just melted, he was so tender and caring. 😍
I KNOW RIGHT 😚😚😚😍
Yes, and the way he offered her his handkerchief when she was crying...I love this scene, and Liam Neeson, so much.
😍😍😍😍I started to blush when he kissed her on the forehead. If he did that to me, I would calm down. 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘 And if he said that to me, I would be comforted by him.
Narace Naidu that's good. I also found it here on UA-cam.
Detectivefiction so do I, since I've seen clips of his other movies, like "A Monster Calls".
This scene is beautiful. She felt so abused, worthless, and as though someone would dispose of her like a piece of trash at any moment. Neeson's character comforts her by confirming her individuality, beauty, and worth as a human being, and he kisses her forehead. That kind of a kiss was more gentle and reassuring, and it was meant to provide comfort and a loving respect, not physical affection. Just with that one small act, he reminds her, "You are a human being, you have beauty and self-worth, and you will be okay."
He kissed her like her father probably did when her heart was broken as a child. There's a reality however harsh that she can't be shielded from. Though Oscar tries. The reassurances he gives Helen are the same that he gives himself. But, really Amon is a sociopath and he might not shoot her. But, then again Goethe might. The same as you might look at the sky and hazzard a guess about the chance of rain. It's arbitrary. So, Oscar gives her that kiss like a father or a cherished uncle. I'm rooting for you. I can't stop this. Or stay with you. But I'm rooting for you. And luckily, sometimes that's enough.
it would be considered violent sexual harassment in today's standards.
"It's alright. It's not that kind of a kiss." Such a beautiful line that is so accepting of Helen Hirsch's vulnerability.
I couldn’t have said it more perfectly. Well said. A perfect comment.
You think there are few among us? Screw me sideways so hard that my small intestine tears open.
Great scene. I love how he tells her, "It's not that kind of kiss" and then kisses her forehead, so she knows that he is truly a great man.
Awkward as it might sound or seem my ex gf of 6 yrs who we both met at the worse moments of our lives who I loved her so deeply and I know she loved me at some point but I guess we aren’t meant to be cause she pushes me away but always randomly calls or visits me she is and will always be the love of my life and I miss her every day
But I know she doesn’t feel the same for me as I feel for her and that we won’t end up together but I never yelled hit her or cussed at her I respect her so much that when she randomly visits I kiss her on top of her her head but i tried once to give her a kiss and she gave me the check so I just now kiss my hand and place my hand one her face usually on her cheek but I can relate to itch this scene cause it’s harmless but I just know females are like roses no matter what shape color they are sensitive and delicate and beautiful
@@josearteaga9667jesus please move one. Get over her. This is coming from a place of brother love
Shindler is an example of compassion. A value that everyone should posses.
bruno Affonso also on UA-cam don't forget.
Yeah but he was scared of getting killed by the Nazis as he was giving Jews luxury jobs, with no death threats and no straining/whipping work. So he had to stop his intake of Jews and became an almost horrible person. But yeah, he was amazing as he saved thousands of Jews from getting killed.
Compaixão. No verdadeiro sentido cristão da palavra."AMA O PRÓXIMO COMO A TI MESMO"
And very few really do.
Such powerful acting from Embeth Davidtz. She won our hearts in Matilda, and here she breaks them to a million little pieces.
Omg is that miss honey 😲😲😲
That’s why she’s soooo familiar!!!! 😭😭😭
@@neo-if4of that and Evil Dead 3
Miss Honey!!!!! I thought she looked familiar!
BROOO WHAT SHE PLAYED MATILDA
I love the lighting in this scene. I love how it shines on Oskar's face almost as if he is Helen's guardian angel or something.
thats the exact point of this scene
That happens throughout the movie. In the hose scene, the commandants are dressed in black and Schlinder is dressed in white like an Angel.
@@merewetherful notice also in the hose scene the other German with the glasses “Julian” is also dressed in white, this is the same guy that Oskar later tries to persuade to help get other Jews to safety when the list is being made.
It s more times in this film, half face an skull half face a human
no matter if the man was a womanizer or bad spending money, but he was compassionate and careful for human being, God Bless people like Oskar Schindler.
Humberto Flores how was he a womanizer?
Maul it seems you haven’t seen the movie, right?
@@esmeraldaaldama6495 His womanizing was, I assume, pretty typical for charming people of his time.
No one can be perfect, but anyone can be good.
He took alot of money
Embeth Davidtz is one of the most underrated actresses of her time. She has amazing talent!
Underrated by who? Certainly not by anyone who saw her in this role.
I only just found it she was miss honey
@@TY-km8hj and Sheila in Evil Dead 3
@@josecano9210She was in Thirteen Ghosts as well.
@@miranda13c … and “The Emperor’s Club” … and “Mansfield Park”. Still, I get what OP is saying-I expected her to become a much bigger name after “Schindler’s List” came out.
I love how the light shines on Oskar’s face, for me it shows how much of an Angel he is when he comforts Helen.
How one human being can make another feel love, kindness, sanity in an insane circumstance, so lovely.

Embeth is such an amazing actress. Its so amazing to see her as Helen in this film and then as Miss Honey in Matilda, such different roles, it makes you realise how good she is.
I thought I recognized the name!!!!!
Didn't click that this was Miss Honey!
Wow. Amazing work from her.
she was in Bicentennial man as well she played Little Miss and Portia
“Mansfield Park” is worth watching, too-she plays a rather shallow, despicable character, but after Helen and Miss Honey, that’s just more evidence of her tremendous range.
''The more you see of the Herr Kommandant the more you see there are no set rules you can live by, you cannot say to yourself, "If I follow these rules, I will be safe." 😢
I hate to laugh... But I used to watch this movie so much when I was in high school I knew all the words. Anyway, I had a difficult french teacher, and when I got sent to the vice principles' office for some infraction, I used this line about her & I got off the hook. I was very proud of myself.
@@goldilox369 loooollll
That, alone can cause heart attack.
@@professor5281 Exactly😢
Always love this tender moment. Helen finally letting her emotions out and cries with relief that she can finally confide and trust someone. I can’t imagine feeling so trapped and alone with such a monster.
Sometimes people need genuine compassion- nothing in return, no terms or conditions, just the unconditional fleeting moment of the best of humanity.
Helen was such an amazing lady.
True inspiration.
She passed away in 2018. RIP
Liam Neeson is such a great actor!
I think the point is that you didnt have to be a saint to save someone. The choices we make, the actions we take define us, motivations aside. Some of the 'best' people stood by and did nothing while their neighbors were butchered. Schindler may have not stood up for the jews for the right moral reasons at first but at least he stood up
That's true. You don't need to be a saint. You just need to have humanity.
"You don't have to be a saint to same someone". I'm going to remember that quote.
And you didn't have to be a monster to destroy someone.
To put it simply.
You don't need to be a "good guy" to be a hero.
"It's not who you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you."- Rachel, Batman Begins.
I"ve seen this countless times and it still brings me to tears. It has to be one of the most powerful scenes ever filmed.
So much in this clip, love the tenderness, the humanity. This movie stands as an all-time classic as it honors history. We shall never forget, we will always remember.
Don't cry, Helen. Just hang in there a little while. I promise he won't forget about you on his list.
Pretty sure this is the woman who, years later, when they were filming this movie, shook uncontrollably at the sight of Fiennes in his uniform bc he looked so much like Goeth. The kind of trauma that sticks with someone for half a decade and still manifests that strongly......
Yes, I believe her actual name was Mila Pfefferberg. Her husband, Poldek, was also helped by Schindler and was present on the set of the film.
I think you mean _half a century,_ not 'half a decade.'
It was actually Mila Pfefferberg who went into a state of panic after seeing Fiennes in uniform. But she and Fiennes developed a warm friendship, often writing letters to one another and calling each other on their birthdays until she passed away in 2008. Helen Hirsch had no part in this film besides her cameo. She actually fascinating enough met up with Göth’s daughter and made a film called Inheritance.
Embeth Davidtz is such an underrated actress! She deserved a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod for this!
THIS kind of man. The kind of man you feel SAFE with. Especially in wartime, there must be such a few of them...
I know I will never in a million years be able to understand what people like Helen Hirsch went through but I will try to understand what that kiss meant to her. We always say how as the world gets rough, we have to act tough but so many of us, instinctually crave that human touch, maybe to feel whole again. And perhaps thats how this woman felt, after so much time being treated as a play object by an evil man. Perhaps she felt some faith in humanity from Schindler.
perfect acting and dialogue delivery.. it is a gem to watch ! I specially came here just to watch this scene. Her acting is pure and serence :)
I’m a man’s man and this scene drew tears.
That powerful.
If we could all just be half the human being Schindler was.
Indeed brother he was a incredible person and we shall never forget him for eternity! ❤️
“A man’s man”? Lmao.
@@FrankieTheTurtle yes sir.
I’m also fully convinced I could kick your silly a$$.;
Embeth Davidtz was amazing in this film! Incredible performance!
I wonder what would have happened if Goeth walked in on Schindler kissing Helen?
@Iranian Bob That was a different prisoner, and it was his Birthday not the prisoner's, they wouldn't celebrite a Jews birthday lol
Amon: I forgive You..😄!
Schindler would have had to kill Goeth.
@@pspicer777 or the other way around, Goeth is more like to carry a gun on him
@@rachelmclaughlin1491 You may be correct. I would like to think that even so, S would have the upper hand due to his prior experience (S was no saint in his youth) and also due his motivations (G was a cold fish while S had passion). All just conjecture... Be well RM.
What did Goeth see in Helen Hirsch? I can't imagine what this poor woman went through with that evil man.
In reality he didn’t have a crush on her and she went through worse with him than the film shows as did his other maid Helen Rosenzweig
The compassion Oskar showed for a servant girl/prisoner was unexpected from a member of the Natzi party, as this sort of thing probably never happened with anyone except Schindler. He was among the greatest of histories humanitarians.
I love the documentary the real Helen did where she met Amond's daughter. She stated Oskar used to comfort her and promise she was going to be okay and one day he just came and told her, "You are leaving with me."
I don't know why but I kinda like the way they say "Herr Kommandant" in german
Reminds me of Hogan's Heroes.
Lmao the German language/accent is so sexy
@@Mgbn78 😁😂
I don't know why, but I feel so strongly about this very clip. It might be about how the girl gesture, and how her voice sounds. I just think it's lovely
She’s strong but vulnerable.
This is my favorite scene in this movie. More powerful than anything else, to me at least.
you might like the interview with Helena Jonas then
Love the dark shadow in his eyes when he kisses her.
"Its not that kind of kiss".He was kissing unknow women all the movie, was necessary the warning XD So good acting from both.chills❤
It seems that not all scoundrels are scoundrels, and that not all dreadful people are dreadful. Sometimes, when the most absolutely appalling circumstances are inflicted, those people we considered as being base or crude, prove to be the most heroic, and the most accepting of the fate we allow them to partake in our stead.
Embeth is such a great, underrated actress 💗
To people that only recognise Liam Neeson for the Taken series, I recommend you watch Schindler’s List.
Or that only know Ralph Fiennes from Harry Potter...
He is also Ra's Al Ghul
He will forever be Qui-gon
If I told Oskar Schindler about what my mother did to me, I would be comforted by him like this.
Heres a hug from a stranger, hang in there.
Let this be an opportunity for me to hug you, my friend, my bro, a hug from a bro
What a beautiful and stunning scene!!
The film's cinematography deserves all the praise it gets.
Yes every last bit of it!
The fear and tension in this scene is so thick.
I could watch this movie again and again, but i would cry everytime!!
You know...The movie, "Shindlers List", does not show ALL the WORST about the years 42-45..!
The facts are beyond our imagination..!
I admire the way.....(the IMPACT), this movie makes you feel the way you do!!!
I don´t know you...but I feel the same way too!!!
Your name sounds italian....and I am from Poland...
So we BOTH are "included" in THIS part of history...I guess!
God bless you!!!
Omg! Helen is Ms honey from Matilda! :) I love Schindler's list so much. Amazing movie. I love Liam Neeson!
Her face at 1:47 and 2:59. Full of both gratitude and despair. : (
The other Schindler Jews used to say that Helen Hirsch
was the bravest one of them all because she had to live with the terror every second of every day
What a beautiful gesture. God bless the Jews.
Jules Love god bless every good people out there you racist ignorant
O.G.H Why are there so much hate just because someone is a Jew. I really want to know?
O.G.H so what t if this person wanted to take a moment to bless the Jews. Take your insult and stuff it somewhere.
Ronnie Bishop Satan hates Jews because God use them to carry His Word and birth the Saviour of the world Jesus (Yeshuah in Hebrew) Messiah. Satan brainwashes people into hating them for no good reason. Notice their reason makes no sense. It is satanic influence. No person of the Living God could hate the true Jews (not fake occultist Jews). I bless and pray for them and I bless Israel, God's footstool.
Ronnie Bishop Because it’s Satanically inspired. God has a plan for them at the end of time, and Satan knows that if he can promote the hated/killing of the Jewish people , there’s a chance that God’s end-time plan will be thwarted. Read the Bible, it’s all laid out for you to see. God also warns those that persecute the Jews will not prosper. Ever wonder why the British empire went downhill after WW1? It’s because God removed His hand from them after the Balfour declaration. Look that one up.
God says (of the Jewish people) “I will bless those that bless Israel, and curse those that curse Israel.” This is found in Genesis 12:3....take it to the bank, folks. God will not tolerate ANY people or nation that threatens Israel, period‼️ Like it or not, that’s the way it is and always WILL be...until this world is no more. 🎯🗽
People judge men so harshly and they look for every reason why they should hate them, up and down all around and still debate it over and over. Maybe finally they whisper out that he might be a good person. It’s just how people are.
what you just said is like telling a grieving mother to 'get over it' when her child died not so long ago.Anyway, this movie is really good and the actors are amazing. Liam Neeson is one of the best :D
thats right, its called necessary, and its why we are communicating in the way we are now
What's beautiful about the scene is that despite the cruelty she told Schindler what it was like working with Amon goeth and he helped her. And that's what's important . That's what makes this scene so beautiful.
Miss Honey.
OH MY GOD I NEVER FUCKING REALIZED THAT
RUdigitized Portia in Bicentennial man.
RUdigitized okay this is completely random and a total coincidence; I’m auditioning for a school musical and need a song and a monologue and saw this movie and planned to use this monologue from this scene, then went and found a song from matilda the musical sung by the character played by this lady. Just had to share cuz my mind is blown after I just realized from your comment it’s that lady who played ms honey damn
OMG I ONLY NOTICED NOW HOLY CRAP
she’s such a good actress
"It's alright. It's not that kind of that kiss" I L O V E the scene 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I don’t understand why spielburg portrayed Amon goeth as having desired the maid who actually is a composite of 2 maids he had - Helen Hirsch and Helena Jonas Rosensteig . There is a detailed testimony of Helena and she was asked if Amon Goeth had sexual affinity towards her and she categorically said no and that he hated Jews and that such a thought was out of the question for him and he subjected her to countless beatings and verbal abuses . I wish Spielberg had stuck to the real testimony and truth .
i agree. i hate how they ended up making it seeme like goeth had a weird fetish for her.
Utterly incredible scene expertly directed and performed, moving and heartbreaking.
Beautiful, she says, 'What set of rules '?
Beautiful understanding shared.
Hard to get my head around that she's Miss Honey from Matilda. What an actress
Embeth Davidz was heart-breaking in this movie.
I encourage people who've never seen this masterpiece to not only see it, but I also include the final encouragement to be sure to have boxes of tissues next to them because each one will be necessary.
Najbolji i najlepsi glumac svih vremena
"...because you ask why I beat you."
That doesn't even make sense, Amon!
Actually it makes perfectly sense. In a very sick perverted way, mentally ill setting it does make sense.
To him she wasn’t worthy of speaking, just to clean his house and look pretty. Who could she tell to make it stop? He was untouchable... or so he thought
It makes sense to those who have been abused, especially from childhood
Does anyone recognize that the woman who was Helen Hirsch was the same woman who played Miss Honey? I watched this movie in my 9th Grade English class, and then “Matilda” a year and a half later in Junior year for fun!
Lol" it's alright. Its not that kind of a kiss"
EPIC movie... how persons like Amon Goth can be capable of doing hideous atrocities is beyond my comprehension.
Que bonita escena, y que hermosa es Embeth Davitz
I wish my highschool days copy what he says. So can kiss many girls.
"It's alright it's not kind of a kiss"
This movie broke my heart ♥️ watching. The cruelty that those innocent people endured. RIP
Poor Miss Honey taking abuse from Lord Voldemort, and then goes on to take more from Marge Dursley.
She tells him there are no rules you can live by to keep you safe and yet Amon won’t let her wear the star in a weird way granting her protection but for his own safety as well.
He couldn't handle that he had feelings for a Jewish woman.
I Choked a bit
When he said it’s not that kind of a kiss
I have to watch this movie for sure. Neeson is a great actor, whatever they say.
It broke her that someone was treating her like a human being again. Others - even if they didn't know she was Jewish - treated her like a thing.
Helen is simply stunning . Must be why Amon picked her.
add to this scene the scene where he convinces Goeth to release Helen and the scene at the end where the real Helen Hirsch adds a stone to the marker accompanied by Davidtz
He did it just because he could. Also he's really conflicted and has emotional problems in his feelings towards her. Crying now because of the OTP love.
what these people went through cant be even imagined in nitemares.
What did happen to her after the war? Was she liberated?
Shout out to my fellow The Glen High School alumni Embeth Davidtz for a powerful performance in this masterpiece of a film.

Oh, Schindler you GREAT man!
Schindlers List portrays a friendship between Schindler and Goeth. Was there ever a genuine friendship between the two? Or is that an invention on the part by the author or Hollywood. Does anyone in here know....? (Thank you)
I don't know factually but the film portrays to me they were comrades. Not friends. And as the war went on and schindler was empathic, he chose to use his charisma to get goeth to sell him his Jews . You can call it manipulation tactics but it worked. Friends don't do that.
Yes there was the real Helen said Schindler was a very good friend of his she saw them embracing she heard Oscar call him Moony which was his nickname which I think nobody else other than his wife used I also read I think it may have been testimony if I remember correctly but one of the survivors said he was doing something in the camp to do with the prisoners and someone came up to him and told him Schindler was at the villa and he immediately dropped what he was doing and went straight there to see him it’s almost fascinating how one so compassionless could get along well with one so
compassionful
Are you kidding?...THE FILM IS AMAZING...SOOO POWERFULL :')
This is my favourite scene from the movie❤
good thing it wasn't bill cosby..
How could a director who spent so much time and energy portraying portraying the horrors of politically motivated ethnic hatred and genocide turn around 180 and support that very attrocity?
I am so wondering did amon goeth really loved her once ?
He claimed he was attracted to her not sure if that counts as love.
In the movie yes. Not in reality. He beat Helen so hard that she partially lost her hearing in one ear.
