Staples? What are you talking about Willis? We have a Office Depot. Stable/Computer City died long ago.
Honestly, I have lived in Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis, Baton Rouge and Atlanta. Paducah , is by far the best. Low crime, cheap but good housing, decent schools, good stores, and decent "mind your business" people.Employment is not amazing but decent. The river industry is what really keeps things alive.
Want to escape but still have a bit of modernity? Paducah is a wonderful place to live.

I love this town. Hubby & I came for a visit & never left! We love the people & the spirit of the them. It's fun to just pick a day & walk around the old town & then head over to the library (just about 1 1/2 blocks off Broadway & 5th st) or head over to Midtown area (or also known as the arts district) and stop ay a local coffee shop ( just like those in the Pacific Northwest) The amount of activities and events thru the year is varied & enjoyable. ❤❤❤

My aunt lived in Paducah. I haven't been thete since she passed away in 2011. Paducah used to be really nice, but I think there's more crime there lately. Do they still do the old artist relocation program? It was really cool.

I’m not sure. I’ll have to look that up. I hadn’t heard about the crime issue, but I would not be surprised if that were true. Lots of small towns have seen crime issues alongside issues with substance abuse.

I used to say Paducah as if it was a backwater town without even knowing about it because I heard someone I knew from Kentucky talk about it. I met my wife years later and I found out that she is from Bandana, that’s South West of Paducah and that she used to go to Paducah on day trips with her family as a kid. So we decided to go back to Kentucky and see her roots since she’s been living in Broward County, Florida, since she was a teenager. We went to Paducah and fell in love with it. We’re planning to move there when we retire in about 6 years. It really is a great place. We want to find an older home, preferably a Craftsman house near downtown. It’s amazing, we love the riverfront and the old stores and restaurants.

So I’m from West Texas (Permian Basin and the South Plains) and I recently moved with my fiancé and pup to Bastrop which is outside of Austin about 25 miles.
We used to be educators, but recently got out of it because the school district we chose to teach at was VERYYYY under resourced and difficult. It was a great time for each of us to join the bustling city and get desk jobs… We each have a hybrid work situation, (sales and HR) and are looking to relocate.
I know you’re from Lexington, and I’d really love to connect with you. Maybe do a quick consultation about the area with you. Also about jobs and the economy. I know YUM is there, but I also know there’s a small burgeoning tech scene.
When I first brought up Kentucky as a potential landing place, she died laughing. But the cost of living, housing, nature, and southern culture are a bit more our speed and desire for long term raising a family. The schools seem fairly solid in Lexington. Whether we were to get back into teaching, or raise a kid.
All the cute little towns you explore remind me of the area of Texas we’re currently in. VERY OLD, but with so much heart and potential.
Thanks for being my window into Kentucky. I’ve always loved the country legends and actors from the state, didn’t realize how beautiful it is all across the state - and best of all, the amount of influx is not insane. Texas is struggling bad with hyper growth.
Really appreciate your work, from Texas!
