That white tank on the bottom your your air box is an in tank silencer. It also doubles as a Maoist we collector to prevent moister building up on your filter or going into your intake. Removing it will allow you to hear your intake a lot more with. If you leave the bottom of the filter box open you also won’t have to worry about moister or water getting in unless you submerge your car
Yes, U need to upgrade the injectors and fuel pump for 2015 to 2019, but not 2011 to 2014. you also need to tune it to find a good WHP possible close to 350 WHP plus increase torque. Definetly incooler is a good idea to change to mod!
muffle the intake noise? but then also add a pipe leading to the cockpit interior so you can hear the turbo???? wtf were they thinking? either you want noise or you dont
Would have been better to leave it in until installation. Thats why i take install videos with a grain of salt unless its from an actual mechanic or some who knows what they are doing.
Not if you’re running the Cobb intake. The OTS maps they have for the VA STI Stg 2 is for OEM intake. They had maps when the VA first came out but they were leaning out cars and it’s not safe so they pulled all the Stg 2+ maps.
Here's the reality... You DO NOT need to replace your stock intake, especially unless your planning on making some major HP. The factory intake does a better job of pulling colder air into you motor. Living in a hot climate your gonna get heat soak big time. Most people who are tuned to run COBBs intake on there STi's are going to opt for the air box they offer as well. That would at least keep some of the heat down.
-Slurmdaddy - Heat soak is indeed intercooler related as well as the top mount sits directly above the engine and turbo. However, heat soak doesn't only affect the intercooler. The video was about an air intake modification so I was referring to that... The Cobb intake (especially without their airbox) leaves you with an air filter just sitting in a super hot engine bay to suck in hot air. Just my 2 cents. I love the Sti content, just wanted to make sure he is aware as it sits now he has installed a "hot air intake"
You should be able to do the installations yourself if you're somewhat mechanically inclined. That +$600 of labor is a little too high, but if you have the time and the tools, there's tons of instruction videos online to follow bro. But make sure to get your car pro-tuned as soon as everything is installed or you will blow your shit up. Running the Catless setup that you have now without a proper tune is scary. Can't wait to see the build!
@JustDriftIt yo my question is this, if I put the intake on without a tune is it not good for my car, or will the computer compensate within that range of the intake?
Cody Greene I know I’m responding 8 months later but I have the 16 sti and I just ordered my divorced cat less downpipe with the Cobb access port. If I get an intake along with injectors I still have to pro tune it? I was a little confused when he said that
Just got back to the house from getting my pro tune from Mikey Botti (Phatbotti). Made 303whp/333wtq with an invidia catless DP, Cobb SF and nameless deletes (stock midpipe). ‘18 STi btw....and I’m loving it! Totally different car. Forgot to mention this was on a Mustang Dyno
Horrible idea, the stock fuel system is so wack, doing so you’re ruining the car lean, no wonder why every time I go by the dealership I see many Sti waiting for a new engine. Not to mention the injectors are being pushed at their 90-95 capacity. Don’t wanna spend money on replacing your engine then spend the money on the fuel system.
You can run Intake and catless downpipe without getting new Injectors. You only need to change the Injectors when they're at 90% duty cycle. I know a lot of people who have an Intake and downpipe and just get a protune with no problem. It's the protune that's mostly important with all the mods you're doing, or you're gonna fuck something up. I suggest you do get a new fuel pumps cuz stock ones are shit. And get a Cobb fuel pressure regulator cuz nobody likes that 2-4K "stumble" you get with the sti. In my opinion, you're good with stock Injectors with just stage 2, but if you're looking for more power, just change em to Cobb 1050x Injectors. I WILL SAY THIS THO, PROTUNE IS NECESSARY AT THIS POINT!
Cameron Alford you have to man. An aftermarket intake alone and just like that you’re running lean. And I shouldn’t have to tell you how bad these engines already are. They don’t like being modified.
Some of you here don’t know where that air goes into. It goes only through the trubo. The air that is mixed with fuel goes through your intercooler and through throttle body also your trubo sucks in cold air from the intercooler. You’d know this If you already pulled some parts off not just by staring at it thinking how pretty your short intake was. I’d suggest still cold air for your turbo cus it doesn’t like hot air. That is why in drag racing after a run they alway put big fans to cool down the turbo.
Oh wow. Ok first of all the turbo sucks in ambient temperature air through a filter of some sort normally, compresses the air which then travels through the intercooler to reduce the overall temperature of the air (cold air is denser) . Then the fuel is added to the cooler air, then the mixture enters the combustion chamber.
The hose you removed had two inlets and tha filter you put in has one where you connected the other that your video doesn’t show that , I’m interested because I want to put my car and it is identical to your engine :
On my 2018 STI, I had to install the 1050x injectors, fuel pressure regulator, AEM high pressure fuel pump, fuel pressure sensor and flex fuel with a custom tune to get a stage 3+. My intake had to sit in the box until I was ready to go to stage 3+. You don't need the fuel rails or the lines. I had a stage 2 for months prior to the install. E85 with the mods brings the STI to life.
So I’m currently running an invidia catted down pipe with the r400 cat back on the Cobb AP OTS stage 2 map. So what else am I going to need to slap this cobb cold air intake?
That tank it's for air condensation it forms like an oil or something and goes to that thank. My motorcycle has a little tube that I have to empty once in a while.
no, this does not change how much boost the turbo can generate that is controlled by the ECU, therefore the engine is not getting any extra air. when you start playing with BOVs and wastegates you need to be cautious and ready to get it tuned or you can damage or destroy the engine.
@CameronAlford hey bro what did you do with that part you said you were probably going to plug. I saw it disappear towards the end of the video. I'm probably going to order the same Mod now but want to make sure that I have all the necessary install steps down
Please don’t do this to your cars guys. Now he has an intake that completely bypasses the factory engineering which was pretty efficient btw, and is now exposed to the entire engine bay. Heat soak city. LOSS of power and is now running lean without a proper tune. Why why why?
0:45 i have a stock 2016 sti and that thing connected to the interior is doing nothing to be honest. cant hear the turbo at all! maybe its because my invida exhaust is too loud to hear the little noise the turbo makes, but oh well... doesnt matter because i am going to get a mishimoto intake and a bigger turbo (along with other awesome engine stuff so it wont break under the power :D) i bet i am going to be able to hear the turbo noice then even without that stupid pipe ;)
What did u actually end up doing to the hose that went to the inside of the car, looks like you took it off the clamp but did u just leave it wide open ...should I be worried from anything going in it?
Change engine oil, spark plugs, spark plug leads and panel filter to K&N, believe me don't buy a cone filter it sucks hot air which is not good, the engine needs cooler air from a panel filter because the air flow is away from any heat source, and one last thing, which know one does, take off the negative cable off battery terminal for 60seconds this will reset sensors once reconnect, all this is the cheapest way and I've done it since the90s, and the gain I get everytime is between 12&14bhp, Good luck Petrol heads enjoy...
What do to with that hose that goes into the interior? Part of it comes off but I see another part that stays and it has a hole. Should I cover that or it won’t hurt if I leave it just like that?
You removed the air cleaner enclosure and installed an air filter that is open to the engine compartment so that your engine sucks in hot engine compartment air. If you were aiming for less power, you've achieved it. What you gained in a more direct air flow you lost by the engine ingesting hotter, less dense air, with less oxygen. This means due to the less dense air, less fuel can be injected in order to keep a stoichiometric fuel mixture.
I’m from the uk 🇬🇧 and my tuner has no issues mapping stage 2 with an intake and downpipe. I don’t know why the US STI is so different from the UK spec STI. Injectors are only required when you go stage 3. Don’t worry about changing your intercooler unless you go stage 4. Personally, I wouldn’t use the cobb accessport as every car is different a pro tune (remap) from a good tunning company is the safest option. 👍
Leave the stock airbox. Waste of money to upgrade. Just asking to lean out That’s all you ask for. Spend the money on oil catch can and more frequent oil changes
Do your research and see what you can and can’t install by yourself and read a lot on forums and wrx’s pages. that’s how I’ve been figuring out the do’s and don’ts by not blowing my motor up and also saving money in the process
You don't need injectors....well at least to a point. I have a 2017 STI with ETS tmic, invidia Q300 exhaust, invidia catted downpipe, and invidia up pipe with the Cobb accessport. Everything else is stock and it runs smooth and injectors aren't maxed out. Oh and peak boost is 18.1 PSI.
Mike Hundredson I have a 2015 STI limited and was interested in getting that exhaust and downpipe are you happy with it or do you wish you went with something else??
Nick L I love it. I don't like loud exhausts because I live in CA plus I think most of them sound terrible and don't have the right signature boxer rumble. The Q300 with invidia catted downpipe and catless upipe is perfect in my opinion. It's not loud but it's not quite either, honestly it has the perfect low and deep tone I was looking for. BTW I made 328whp and 344wtq with this setup.
Injen cold air intake thats what I run and I'm stage 2 with a cobb 3inch catback exhaust cobb downpipe catted process west top mount and a gfb bov hybrid and it works great
Yea there is one for the intake itself but I tested the Cobb SF OTS and it sucked compared to the Mishimoto OTS but perhaps because I don't have the Cobb SF intake I have the ETS intake. I noticed the car just felt sluggish compared to the Mishimoto OTS tune. If you have a downpipe and intake you could have tried a stage 2 tune if I'm not mistaken. Really though you should have just left on the intake and got a pro tune.
Sounds like a lot of money for an intake lol. You're better off with stock intake anyways.... notice how the air is being taken from the outside of your engine bay where its cooler. That Cobb intake is a high flow intake NOT a cold air intake. I can't see why you would need new injectors and a pump for a slight increase in airflow but hey I'm no expert.
And just so you know that intake alone probably wouldn't even increase your hp by 0.5.... it just makes your engine sound a bit throatier but since you have an exhaust you probably wouldn't even notice it's there until you popped your hood.
RJ Costain yeah but with a Cobb accesport the car will actually benefit and gain power. It's not like he slapped this intake on his Honda with no tune. But you're right he's going to be pulling in hotter air which retards the timing depending on how hot that air is
Looks like a hot state... Not like northern Ontario in Canada where I'm from... December and January never saw a day above -25 Celsius... some days -40 or below plus windchill. Twas a cold winter. Need grill cover to warm up your intercooler lol
Justin Kluge why would he get a pro tune rn? i’m sure he’s waiting until he’s done putting aftermarket parts on then he’ll most likely get a protune for what he has done to it.
Kyle V L in the meantime he’d be causing damage to the engine. These motors are already terrible. They don’t like bein modified. You don’t slap on a bunch of parts and THEN get a tune. That’s not how this works. Even just an intake alone and boom, you’re runnin lean. Every single modification needs a tune. The ECU isn’t going to compensate for the additional airflow. Common misconception.
Bryan Toledo yes if something were to happen to his car let’s say turbo blows they will blame it on afr being out of wack blah blah blah Don’t listen to these little kids who just got their license saying magnuson moss act bullshit In the end if you mod the car and something happens they CAN AND WILL (maybe some get lucky and have cool dealers) find it and they flip the script making the burden of proof be on you and if you try to use m.w. Act claiming law suit remember they have much deeper pockets Enjoy your warranty for five years or 60k miles (depending on brand) and then go mod happpy
lmao 4 grand for 350whp.. they are definitely just trying to sell you everything lmao. stock fuel system can certainly handle your current setup. contrary to popular belief you dont NEED 1000cc+ injectors, a small step up to 650cc is a great option to get you closer to that 350 mark. oh and go get a pro tune, its like $100ish and completely worth it.
60 miles or 100km. lol it has nothing to do with not knowing anything all of them were bolt one with a tune around 330whp. these internals just don't handle it for long. but my Hawkeye right now has been fully built etc with around 500whp and no issues for 25 miles
LOL good job putting on a hot air intake, luckily you have a intercooler, but in reality you're now just trying to cool down hotter air. Only idiots buy a "cold air" intake.
I wouldn't call them idiots there just being fooled by these companies that lie but Finally someone gets it I'm to tired of the so Cold air intake when they clearly suck up hot air from the engine bay. I drive a Elantra sport I also had a hot air intake AKA cold did some temp test had above 150°F-180°F. These companies are ripping people off... long story short I made my own Hybrid True Cai that I built completely insulated along with a few other goodies I can't mention but my temps are around 55°F-65°F I'm still working on to get it colder.
Buys a car that they 1st. They knkw nothing about either than its a sick sti 2. doesnt seem to know how things basic things work mechanically. Because injector lag mmm not a thing those lines have constant pressure. 3. #vapenation 4. Ill probably get hate for this

the white intake box is actually for snow and water to collect in
map stg 2 kit is intake and downpipe with no fuel improvements needed.

What! It's not red?
I'm a red air intake guy
Ist not the best intake lool at the Filter Size. Smaller filterspace than stock. Take a intake with a big Filter like AEM or something else.
Man i had the same problem bro but im running aem intake n they told me to take it off n put my stock one back on intill theres a map for it
Yea there is one for the intake itself but I tested the Cobb SF OTS and it sucked compared to the Mishimoto OTS but perhaps because I don't have the Cobb SF intake I have the ETS intake.
Did he tune this STi?
How the hell it sounds!
Nice car 🚗 👌
Nice.. I know Sam Cobb quite well. :)
Is Cobb intakes carb legal lol
It’s for water
So your saying if I get an intake I need a tune ?
Wrong tittle for the video
There is nothing stupid about a company allowing you to here a lil turbo noise.
bro install a heat shield as well
Subtitles listed your exhaust note as Music. Can't disagree.
all you need is a pro tune man.... JS
Where the fuck you been? I've been texting you, fool!
Will or can this easy mod effect DMV Smog emissions tests required in California? Anyone know?
Wow, a whole half a gallon per mile...
So you've pretty much have voided all the warranty on the car
Bryan Toledo usually an intake won't void warranty, but that accessport definitely will.
KalonJB but you should have a tune for an intake, so I guess running an intake will void warranty.
Mrlolibre you SHOULD but most people don't. Depends on the manufacturer as well.
Bryan Toledo yes if something were to happen to his car let’s say turbo blows they will blame it on afr being out of wack blah blah blah
Don’t listen to these little kids who just got their license saying magnuson moss act bullshit
In the end if you mod the car and something happens they CAN AND WILL (maybe some get lucky and have cool dealers) find it and they flip the script making the burden of proof be on you and if you try to use m.w. Act claiming law suit remember they have much deeper pockets
Enjoy your warranty for five years or 60k miles (depending on brand) and then go mod happpy
lmao 4 grand for 350whp.. they are definitely just trying to sell you everything lmao. stock fuel system can certainly handle your current setup. contrary to popular belief you dont NEED 1000cc+ injectors, a small step up to 650cc is a great option to get you closer to that 350 mark. oh and go get a pro tune, its like $100ish and completely worth it.
$100 for a protune... lmao, where you getting your tunes from? autozone?
Unfortunately in AZ with only 91 octane I believe the injectors are 100% needed
motor will be blown by 50 miles just a heads up. have had 4 stis from 2004 -2014. every single one blew up around 60 miles
currbag you blew up every one by 60 miles? Or 60k ... either way it sounds like you don’t know what you’re doing ?
60 miles or 100km. lol it has nothing to do with not knowing anything all of them were bolt one with a tune around 330whp. these internals just don't handle it for long. but my Hawkeye right now has been fully built etc with around 500whp and no issues for 25 miles
Only 60 miles is hard to believe, I’m assuming you mean 60,000 miles.
haha obviously u fuckin dumbass
currbag haters
That's cool
should have went aem cold air not ram air
that intake will be sucking in the heat from that boxster
Should have stuck with the mazdaspeed
cobb sf intake sti ok
I guess you should have bought a GTR 😕
Saving up for one!
Buddy, just get a protune....
These companies are ripping people off... long story short I made my own Hybrid True Cai that I built completely insulated along with a few other goodies I can't mention but my temps are around 55°F-65°F I'm still working on to get it colder.
hi cameron
beautiful
Buys a car that they 1st. They knkw nothing about either than its a sick sti
2. doesnt seem to know how things basic things work mechanically. Because injector lag mmm not a thing those lines have constant pressure.
3. #vapenation
4. Ill probably get hate for this
So youre saying that everyone has to be a certified A+ mechanic to buy and modify an STI to have fun? What a tough world!
Hey Bro
I think the white Bottle is for Dry Ice to have better air quality in the intake👍👍😁 Nice Suby👌
Cool but a waste of money . You won’t see any gains from it other then looks .
Fuck cobb maps bro just keep it and get it dynoed
This guy just likes bolting new shit to his car. He doesn't know or care about functionality, efficiency, or actual power gain.
Living and learning! thanks for watching bud
i can just tell hes from arizona hahahahahah
